I'm genuinely curious. What did her in for you?I felt they could've written her better too.
actually in any situation once you add in a variance i can change...so if he had let her in and shared with her it might have a different outcome where it won't necessarily end in beheading of the family... here the main issue was that after all his talk about her letting him in and she finally did but then he shut her out which led to the domino effect of the rest...cause and effect...
I truly loved this drama until about 5 episodes from the end. Now I have three to go and I'm not sure I care what…
I just wanted to say that as frustrating and stubborn NN can be, I do understand her and I think it's important that she doesn't just forgive anything right away. Even though HBY has done so much for her, it is a fact that she was really hesitant and didn't really want this relationship to begin with. It's also true what she said that he did make her believe in him and trust him and quite literally manipulated her into promising to treat him as an equal, as a team, and as someone to share everything with, while he himself never returned that favor. It must be so frustrating to NN that someone who put so much emphasis on her relying on him didn't rely on her in return. At the same time she also finds out that a lot of the things she thought he had done just for her he also did for his own gain, which does cheapen them a bit since he originally made it look like it was all for her sake. So now she's doubting everything he ever done and if it was really for her. And HBY has always been so steadfast in pursuing her, but now he won't even properly try to persuade her. He says that he believes in her, which is great, but even though she knows his reasons she still wants him to explain to her and beg for her forgiveness. He doesn't, because he thinks he doesn't deserve it, but she needs him to so they're just stuck in a standoff.
I feel like I've been very critical of HBY in this post but don't get me wrong, I love HBY and I totally get where he's coming from as well! He's also traumatized , he grew up in the palace and had to protect himself with scheming on a much larger scale than NN ever did, and throughout his entire life he's had to keep his thoughts and emotions very close to his chest. I think he has genuinely tried and let NN in more than any other person, but it's still not to the extent that he has demanded from her.
One big problem that HBY has when it comes to NN is that he is very used to analyzing and strategizing everything very logically (he is a general, after all), but you just can't analyze romantic relationships like that. Even though NN can also be logical, she also follows her emotions and I think HBY just doesn't always understand that he has to factor that in as well. We see this with the Empress and the Crown Prince. The CP is obviously incompetent, NN sees that as well, but she makes the illogical choice to support him because of the Empress' kindness to her. Abandonment was NN bottom line and HBY hadn't grasped how important that actually was. Logically she understands why he abandons so that should be ok (he thinks), but her emotions say no.
In the end, I think they definitely need 5 years apart from each other. I saw some spoilers before watching and I knew a separation was coming and it kind of annoyed me cause a separation at the end is sooooo overdone in Asian dramas. It's usually only there because it somehow has to be and more often than not it's just forced in there for no real reason. Here, I think they need a LONG break from each other. NN needs time to process all of the things that go against her expectations and HBY needs to learn that just because someone loves you and understand you, that doesn't mean you can just expect them to blindly follow you (unlike in the army).
Ok so that went on for really long, I hope it wasn't too confusing to read >β< I just have a lot of thoughts on both of these characters. I love them both even though they can be really frustrating but I think that's what makes them realistic. I feel like everything they do makes sense, even though I don't always agree and want them to stop being idiots!
thoughts on LLTG: All everybody seems to be talking about is how Zisheng knew she had abandonment issues but I think it's being glossed over that no matter if Zisheng looks or acts like it, he is also severely traumatized and has trust issues. He witnessed his uncle killing his father because his uncle rebelled and his father supported the current Emperor no matter what. He also had to listen to his uncle basically give up his family for greed. Then he had to walk out on his tiny child legs and see the bodies of his family laying around and his father's and cousin's head on a spike at the city gates. (They frickin' beheaded a child!) Not to mention the extreme guilt he feels towards his cousin for exchanging clothes in the first place. Then he and his aunt had to lay amongst dead bodies for a couple of days and then beg the whole way to the capital during which he had to witness his aunt slowly going mad. Then when they finally got to the capital, in order to save themselves from Ling Yi, he had to pretend to be his dead cousin and Ling Yi's son therefore taking away both his own identity and his cousin's. He's been so used to keeping everything to himself for so long that telling somebody else, no matter how much he loves them, is a difficult process in and of itself. For so long he has never known who to trust. Do you really expect him to change 10+ years of thinking a certain way within several months?
And we all know that he has to go through this in order to be a more open person towards NN in the future. And maybe she'll also work on her abandonment issues in the meantime.
Sword and Brocade is good. Have you watched Story of Minglan? Watch that as well. It has similar vibes to LLTG…
Just start watching it (Story of MingLan). I kept it for years on my watchlist dreading the number of episodes, when i finally started i regretted why i wasted so much time not watching it and would you believe after watching 78 episodes i wanted it to continue! LOL
Yass one of the queens has spoken. So glad you're done because I've been so curious for your thoughts as I took…
I'm reiterating what you said that she became an ice queen and all life was drained out of her...in other words it was as if someone just switched off the lights and it became dark
Adore her in TLB, WRTW, & LLTG!πππππππππππππππSheβs one of those…
and to think she only started acting in 2017 and didn't even go to art or film school/ university for acting... I can imagine if she decides to go to acting school or university...she'll become legendary. already she has natural acting talent...
I still cannot move on from how they did SSβs character dirty at the end. How can depression be a sign of maturity?…
Though i feel like they tried to show a bit of the healing process for SS in the last 3 episodes even though there were bits and pieces and was not very coherent but i did see a bit of effort when she was with the family and other parts too. If you re-watch you will be able to see it...when the wheels are turning in her head as others admit they did her wrong. She was digesting it slowly that when that near death experience happened, she was already on her way to forgiving.

someone commented a statement that well descibes this and said its as if "the lights went out in CSS...as if someone just switched off the light"...the change was instant
