This had good potential... but the whole thing is so depressing ! And jsut when we think it's getting better, there's the ending that's even more depressing !
though i hate how normalized rape is in thai culture, and especially in this drama. I hated when the evil sister…
That’s Thai dramas. Unfortunately, this is very common and Norah is far from being the worst example (I also usually hate when the evil girl is raped and it is considered as a punishment because it goes with the idea that rape can be justified, an idea already very present in Thailand : exceptionally, I liked it here but only because of the writing). Often, it is the female lead who gets raped by the male lead and they still end up together : that’s the worst. I usually avoid this kind of drama, and it gets more and more rare nowadays, but rape culture is still very present in Thai dramas. If you watch these, you better get used to it. But it wouldn’t be strange if that stops you from watching Thai dramas
She got married with a guy named Zhang Heng and they decided to get kids through surrogacy (something illegal in China, which was already pretty bad for her). But their relationship turned bad and they decided to divorce. However, there was the question of what would become the kids who were still in the surrogate mother’s belly. As they were negotiating, Zhang Heng released a recording where we can hear Zheng Shuang saying she’s annoyed that the kids can’t even be aborted anymore, and it is stated she basically wanted to abandon the kids. This recording destroyed her career as she is now pointed out as a killer of children and a mother who abandons her children, although she and her family deny this and say she wanted to fight for the custody. Moreover, she is also considered guilty of tax evasion.
So I just read the novel… knowing the relationships between the characters and the ages gap between the various actors that are so obvious, this is gonna feel VERY weird if they follow the original novel Ex : Jin Jingxue, played Maggie Huang, is caught in a love triangle between Situ Weilian and Li Yingliang… but it’s so obvious the two actors are younger than her ! (one of these two is no more than 20 when she’s already 31)
