If you actually watched Chae Jonghyeop’s previous works, you will know that he can act well. So I had no doubts…
Oh you’re so right, she was talking to Kiho in her mind as he was the closest person she’s ever had in her life.
He was looking for her for 15 years believing she’s not dead and she was “talking” to him all this time to keep herself sane and believing he’s okay. Omg my heart just melted…
And yeah I agree regarding CJH’s acting, I loved him in Love All Play, there were also scenes which proved he’s doing very well portraying more complex emotions. His eyes can speak volumes.
I thought I was the only one! I have a feeling they would make a wholesome couple with her sassy divalike demeanor vs. him with no bs approach and great childalike sense of humor 😏 I see the potential!
Justice for Woo Hak (but not in the way you’re probably expecting)Read the post below marked as spoiler(Spoilers…
Woo Hak’s character importance and why romance here is not the case
I feel like there is a lot of discussions regarding WH’s role in this story and what makes me a little bit sad is that in most cases he’s just treated as the 2ML romance-wise. I get it why people want him with MH, but his character is much more than love interest here. He’s crucial for the whole story and he has his own arc to go through within this drama.
First of all, when he meet him for the first time, he’s like a teenager. The exact first scene is him oversleeping because he was drinking last night. Acting a little bit childish, clingy towards Bo Geol. When they find MH, his life starts to change (she’s like a cooler box for him).
At the beginning, he is curious and helps MH because he’s a reporter and that’s it. He sees her as an interesting source material for his work. But when Ki Ho’s topic comes out, that’s when he’s starting to question for his own identity.
He’s getting closer to MH thinking he’s KH himself, trying to figure out the missing 15 years of his memories. They become supportive towards each other as both of them share similar experiences being lost for 15 years. Her - on island, him - memory-wise. He missed a whole bunch of his childhood years, she didn’t have a chance to experience growing up as an adult in the society. I recall him mentioning BG that he wishes he could remember his childhood friends and MH is somehow giving him hope to finally get one.
He’s growing fond of her as MH is really outstanding human being, unexpectedly wise and charming but also he’s getting more mature and protective when starting to help her. The he meets his father in disguise without realizing it.
Second of all, during video editing of his new material, he’s getting the flashbacks of his memories, triggered by unexpected meeting and sounds of the street. That’s when his real journey begins.
The emotional moment causes him to start his own investigation. He’s trying to find out if he’s Ki Ho himself but that’s not the case at all - he’s trying to uncover the past which was hidden away from him. That’s when the feeling of anger and betrayal comes to a peak during his confrontation with BG. It’s not about him being KH anymore but about the biological father and secrets of his family.
From my perspective, his main role in this drama is to find his true self and get the justice for his family. Getting his biological father punished for his crimes and getting the whole family out of darkness they’ve been living in for all these years caused by fear of one man’s abuse.
He’s starting with the material about the accident which happened to KH/MH’s childhood friend, he doesn’t even know yet that’s his biological father who caused it but I’m sure at some point he will uncover the truth.
Ki Ho/Bo Geol’s way of coping was to hide and run away from his past. He said it himself - it was more like him not wanting to reveal the truth and forget.
Woo Hak’s role is to remember again and stand up for his family. Bring the justice and do not let the dark secrets be hidden anymore. Let the whole family live as true selves instead of running away from the past. And that role is crucial for the whole story. I sense an amazing and beautiful arc for him here.
His own story is already so good and promising that we don’t really need the romance to be involved. He’s gonna have a crush on the FL, ofc but I don’t think that he needs it at all. What I also sense is that Cha Hak Yeon will nail it big time.
What makes me sad the most is that a lot of people are just saying that he’s been pushed away as the 2ML because he will not “get the girl”. Guys, his role in this drama is about to be much more impactful and romance is not solving everything in real life.
Thanks if you managed to read it till the end. I was just looking for some place to gather all of the thoughts. I hope you have as much fun as I do when analyzing and unveiling the characters of this drama :)
It's clear that Woohak already likes Mohka, some said it's just platonic, it's platonic for her but no for him.…
I feel like he’s not gonna actively go after her despite falling in love. He also has his own stuff to be resolved regarding his identity (ofc he knows who he’s rn but still he has unresolved business regarding his biological father, my guess is he’s gonna do everything to bring the justice for him and his family after years of abuse - as real reporter would do).
KJH is such a wasted talent, he has been cast in same type of roles over and over, he plays a quiet, smart and…
I still have hope that his character will have some depth tbh. We don’t know what exactly happened between him and RJ. What we know for sure is that RJ wasn’t the best kind of person herself in many situations. She had diva attitude, drinking problems, he’s just a businessman as he’s supposed to be as CEO. There still may be some misunderstanding between those two and redemption arc for CEO. That’s what I hope for 😅 May not gonna happen
I think the main topic of this show is indeed isolation (as castaway from the title says).
Mok Ha - the obvious one, she was isolated from the whole world for 15 years. Ram Joo - isolated from the world by her own actions within the years and also as the big celebrity whom everyone’s looking at as some source of profit. Bo Geol/Ki Ho - isolated first from his mother and brother, then from Mok Ha, he’s also the character looking for the isolation himself (remember how he wanted to move out to live all by himself on the 2nd ep?). He’s also isolated by his secrets from the past. Woo Hak - isolated from his identity. You can feel how he’s missing something and when he catches the glimpse of his memories in ep4, he’s doing all he can to find out more. It bothers him a lot.
Bonus CEO - isolation by money seeking? I still feel there is some depth in his character and we don’t have enough data about his past with Ram Joo but I feel like they were in relationship until something went wrong. Imperator Sugar - isolated from his family as soon as he decided to help Ran Joo to follow her dreams.
Possibly I’m reading too much into it but that’s something that came to my mind after the ep5 and though that maybe someone had similar observations :)
The older lady reflecting on the past scares me… is this story going to have a tragic ending? I hope it won’t…
I’m also getting scared that this story will have some kind of tragic ending. Another idea I had is that the old lady parts are from the documentary (about Ran Joo and/or Mok Ha) made by brothers.
I just have a heavy feeling that Bo-Geol is Ki-Ho. I'M 100% SURE IT'S BO-GEOLHere are some big and small reasons…
I would add something here:
BG proposing to invite RJ to the show right after they found MH. It looked like everyone already forgot about RJ and not even considered her joining the show. It may be a coincidence but is it really? 🤔
He didn’t know about MH and WH going to see RJ, they didn’t even meet there as I recall! Manager didn’t let him meet RJ as she was having a fan meet up after the performance (with MH!).
Since a lot of us is getting along with the theory that BG = KH, I would like to add that I see some kind of opportunity here:
We don’t see much from BG’s perspective since ep.2, mostly some small details or short interactions.
Imagine if the creators will release the episode with the whole KH/BG pov. From childhood, through the times after MH went missing, till the present times.
That could be soooo good and giving answers to a lot of questions, also adding the emotional layer to his character.
OMG I wasn't able to sleep, because I was wondering how the f he knew where Mok Ha is.. Thanks to you I am going…
You are welcome, I was puzzled with it too since the last episode so when that idea popped in my head that it may be the answer I got pretty fulfilled ngl 😂
I was wondering how Ki Ho’s father knew where he should meet with Mok Ha but I realized that Mok Ha lost a backpack on the farry. Since Ki Ho’s father is a cop I guess he could get it after the incident.
There was a lot of stuff inside this backpack which could be used against him (e.g. photos, video tapes) AND the notepad with info about the meeting with the manager!
That’s why she can also be interesting to watch as her character is (slowly) developing thanks to Mokha.
What I noticed is she’s still acting out, ofc but the time period she needs to come to her senses shortens with each situation.
