Agreed, I’m betting that YSC’s playing the long game. His arranged marriage with Wu Xian’er might seem like a good opportunity to be backed by Prince Kangping/Wu Youjing, but the marriage serves more like an opportunity by WYJ to bring YSC down too if YSC ever betrays him or make YSC go against YPA. After all, why would *the* WYJ, who’s trying to maintain a foothold of his own power against other officials and nobles, bother to marry his daughter off to YSC who has yet to establish his own reputation or has no backing in the court… If YSC can really see the bigger picture for what it is, siding with WYJ isn’t sustainable or beneficial for his career in the long term with WYJ’s shady business, how persistent YPA is with uncovering the censor case, and the empress’s campaign to eliminate corrupt officials. YSC would fare better and merit greater rewards doing some covert operations on behalf of the empress as we’ve already seen him do. Just like YPA said during her scheme to catch Hai Yiping, “Do you know the secret of the best hunter? They disguise themselves as prey.”
