They are set in the same universe and you dont really need to watch the previous installment to understand the story. So it basically can be a standoff series of itself which leads to different company remaking the 3rd installment instead of all 3. However you might need to watch legend of the condor heroes before watching this as the mc of this series is related to guo jing
