it was said that those donations would help funding for the supposed filming of season 2 but she took it for another project and basically ghosted ggnbp fans with no answer
hiiii back here to talk more closely about why there isn't a s2(cause i've learned a LOT from chinese fans who were there to experience the entire thing) and also to hopefully change a lot of people's opinions on the author as i've been seeing too much people liking her cause of revenged love(no hate to the show, just the author that's kinda :/)
A common misconception i've seen about S2 is that it was "cancelled". This is not the case. Season 2 never existed in the first place. Despite the official Weibo account saying there would be a S2 and making posts like "we've started filming" it was literally all lies. It was mostly to keep encouraging people to buy official merch and bts videos to help "fundraise" season 2(The BTS videos where like 300 yuan each). Then the rights to the show got sold to Thailand(thats where the thailand remake came from) and then it was given to an audio drama company(audio drama is really good, tells the entire story, happy ending, recommend you to check it out) And wellll, season 2 did NOT get funded and CJD(The author) ran away with the money.
Like to note as well that CJD has done this MULTIPLES times with each series she films. She filmed Counterattack, ran with the money to film Are You Addicted, ran with the money to film Advance Bravely, ran with the money to film Stay With Me, ran with that money to film Revenged Love. She'll probably take whatever money left after her whole debt problem to film her dear baby Feng Mang.
Also as a personal opinion, as much as I'd love to see season 2 with original actors, i genuinely do NOT want them, especially Xu Bin to be working under her again. CJD's attitude towards Xu Bin is genuinely disgusting, as seen in the BTS where shes constantly "joking" about how he doesnt meet her height and body standards and about how she's going to replace him. After the series broadcasted, she threw shade at Xu Bin saying he only became famous because of her(bullshit as the series wouldnt have done well under almost no promotion if his acting was shit).
So yeah, hope this helps! Please support the leads, Zhang Jiongmin and Xu Bin, they're the sweetest and most underrated duo ever and recently performed at a music festival together around a week ago :]

i recommend paying attention to rednote and douyin the most!!! u can also search up "微博滨炯超话" and its like a fandom space on weibo where fans of them will post about every single interaction so if u want quick updates u can visit that often too
there is someone on youtube translating their songs and livestreams so i highly recommend just doing a little searching there too ^^

i 100% recommend the show, even tho it doesnt have a good ending its still WONDERFULLY made. the story, cast, and music are all superrr good!! if you are considering to listen to the audio drama, the show also helps a lot with the understanding!
Will season 2 be happening(with original actors)? 99% not. Why? Chai Jidan sold the rights(im pretty sure) and its basically impossible with where the actors are right now(and also if china decides gay people are completely wonderful and can be allowed on tv than maybe)
Which leads me to my second point! The two leads, Xu Bin and Zhang Jiongmin are in a music group that debuted in august 2023 together(just the two of them) called Midsummer Night! They've released one album and are planning to release their second one hopefully this month! Definitely a happy ending compared to some other dangai drama leads Third point: Anyone who is curious about specifically Suyu and Wubi's story post 8 years, aka, what should've happened if there was a stay with me s2, there's an official audio drama airing on Manbo that tells their ENTIRE story, including post 8 years and how they get their happy ending c: There should be guides floating around on how to purchase it but it will definitely involve having to download the app first LMAO(change your location to china etc.) First 3 episodes are free but idk how to do translations and stuff so that might be up to people to figure out themselves.
