I get Mom not wanting her daughter to be with the son of the woman who ruined her family, it's understandably not ideal to become family with your husband's mistress. But this only makes her own daughter and the man she loves unhappy. DJ's mom is not affected in the slightest, she only hoped her sons new girlfriend would be richer than the last. It's the children who have to pay for their parents' mistakes.
Why was Haesung saying she would give up on Jun as if she had been waiting for him for years like she wasn't dating someone else like an episode ago? Was there a time jump I missed somehow?
Haven't watched the episodes yet, but do we get any interaction between Jun and Dongjin, will Dongjin ever get any clarification on who Jun is? He as seen Jun with Woojoo from the start, Jun has been there during almost every interaction Dongjin had with the family, they live in Jun's house, he plays a huge part in their lives, but he has gotten no introduction. I mean I would be curious if I were Dongjin.
I believe K-drama fans can't don't like complicated plots cuz majority of K-drama's have simple and straight forward…
I can only speak for myself; but I don't mind complicated plots, I actually prefer them IF they're done well. Which isn't the case here, this show doesn't even have a complicated plot, it only seems complicated, because it is badly written and paced, and that is the problem. If you look at the last 6 episodes for example, the story hasn't moved forward; new problems have been added, but nothing has been done about the existing ones like the ghost letter, the peony petals, the white haired people. How the characters are written is also weird; they don't change gradually, but suddenly without any justification and then stay like that for the rest of the show, despite the actors' best efforts they feel one-dimensional and cartoonish. The writer has done a poor job pacing this story.
This show is like a clogged sink/toilet at this moment. I'm sorry for the crude comparison, but it's the only accurate one; there is too much stuff thrown in there and it won't move. You could have not watched the last 6 episodes (at least) and it would not have mattered; because there is no development, no resolution, no direction at all to the story. And that would have been fine if this time was used for character development, but that has also been done very poorly; the Queen pulls a dramatic face at the end of every episode and that's about it, the Warrior is a flat character and I could see that "twist" lightyears away, the SML is just there, FL suddenly without any meaningful buildup realized she had feelings for ML but I'm beginning to wish she hadn't because ever since they have been stuck at the "who is it?" - phase, ML did a sudden 180 at the beginning of the show and has been basically the same since. I have no idea why this show needed to be 20 episodes. This is why good writing, good pacing is so essential. In every other aspect like overall story, acting, directing, soundtrack, the show is good. But the writing is just bad both in terms of plot and characters. There is no thread moving the story forward, the episodes add more noise without any resolution and the characters are so cartoonish that they change abruptly without any logic or justification and then stay exactly like that for the rest of the story.
This series would have been better off being 16 episodes. The story is not moving, not one inch. This is how many weeks now and still no progress to the white hair, peony petals, ghost letter mystery, instead more mystery has been added by way of Byeokcheon, the Queen, the Warrior. And it's weighing the story down.
It's not noble idiocy when the obstacles are real, though. To me noble idiocy refers to one party deciding to…
I see your point, but it's still noble idiocy if WJ doesn't tell him anything, thinking he'd be better off without knowing.
And even though what WJ's mother went through is absolutely horrible, I will speak from my own experiences and say that it's an unhealthy dynamic when a mother forces a child to sacrifice their own happiness. Of course in real life there are a lot more nuances; but in this story it's quite clear. DJ had nothing to do with his mother, he disagreed with her marriages and her kicking the family out of their home. Also making WJ suffer even more is not helping anything.
Controversial take: I think ML might actually be relieved if he finds out FL already knows what kind of a person his mother is and evolved her vision of him so that now she understands he is nothing like her, regardless of what she did in her misguided quest for revenge. I think he might even empathize with her for wanting payback. From the flashbacks we can see that having someone meet his mother is a source of fear and trauma for him that held him back from fully committing to someone. So I think he'll be glad all that meeting his awful mother business is over and done with.
