Ep 21 depicts Li Ni and Ying as soul mates. Ying provides emotional support and guidance to Li Ni who is depressed and has been drinking. She is able to help him overcome his sorrows, lift him up when he is at a low point. Li Ni's vulnerabilities should not be view as a weak man; on the contrary, even the bravest warrior is still human, has a heart, and feelings. Li Ni grew up with no mother, a father who hated him, brothers who bullied him. Ying, on the other hand grew up with loving parents. We see yet again how Ying imparts to Li Ni her mother's selfless attitudes about life. Li Ni now realizes his father despised his mother lowly status and treated her like trash. He ponders was it worth it for his mother to die giving birth to him. Ying recounts her own mother's difficulties giving birth but her mother told her that it was the most worthwhile thing she did in life. This is the third time we get a glimpse of where Ying gets her determination. In the first part of the movie, we see Ying's mother selflessly dying for others and tells Ying to always stay alive so she too can save others. In another scene, when she thought Mister is dead, she told Taozi, her mother told her the living must always keep living well. And here in Ep21, we learn her mother taught her no matter how difficult your own life is, giving life to another person is worthy cause.

I noticed another movie every day there are way way way more raters than watchers. But WoL makes more sense, the number of raters is always less than watchers.

i noticed the verifed/stars was stuck at 8.14 and not changing even though the completed ratings were consistently rising. But this week, the verified/stars is finally getting updated and has increased.
I came to check the ratings and it looks like it holds on to 8.5 only.
I think it will turn to 8.6 in the coming weeks. I noticed the verified/stars rating was stuck at 8.14 for some time, while the completed ratings were consistently moving up. Then this week, it looks like it got fixed because now the verified/stars is improving every day, but the fix may not be retroactive. Since the fix, the verified has increased by 0.06, but I'm thinking it needs to increase by at least 0.1 for the overall rating to change to 8.6. Also, the% of raters to watchers is increasing. Always, the number of raters is less than number of watchers. But this other movie that I was following, their number of raters always exceed the number of watchers by a lot, which makes no sense at all. How can you have more raters than watchers?
this movie is part comedy too. Also, the stupid King is the reason that Cui Lin did not believe the Li family have any one smart or competent to rule the kingdom. That was the driver for her ambition to insert Cui influence on the throne, so the people can have better life. So yes, stupid king and stupid bad brothers, part of the comedy they way they act, and the actors were great, and I found them funny, but also it is crux of the story that the Li royal family are bunch of idiots that got overthrown. IF the king is smart, there wouldn't be any conflicts. This story is fictional and part fairytale.
how will you ever be able to enjoy a Chinese drama? It's not real life, it's meant for impact.
Why are people trying to badmouth this movie? I don't know about every sword but I know that Xu Kai and Jing Tian were using real swords in some of the scenes. In fact, I don't think Xu Kai uses props. He is very skilled with real weapons. Jing Tian said the sword in the wedding night scene was so heavy to handle for her. I also remember she said the men's armour that she wore (smallest size) was quite heavy. The bow that Xu Kai bend across his back to fling it back is a real bow. I like to see someone try that trick without traning or practice. Xu Kai is also skilled with archery. He can shoot pretty good. I seen videos of him practicing. He was not using props. I feel this production, they really were quite demanding of the leads to do things that might cause them injury,. Jing Tian said that she was worried, but that Xu Kai is so skilled, he didn't harm her.
An arrow is considered a low-velocity weapon that causes injury only to the immediate area involved. The only type of arrow shot that would cause immediate or almost immediate unconsciousness and death would be a direct shot into the heart (and even that would need to be in one of the two ventricles for immediate death) or directly into a vital part of the brain or upper spinal cord. Therefore, it is plausible that a person can still move around and fight for a few more minutes after an arrow goes through their body, as long as it does not hit any critical organs.

I'm watching Xu Kai and Jing Tian livestream. I just want to share so far what I've watched. It's really long livestream, watch the rest later. 1. The stone/pebble fly over the water was actually done by Xu Kai himself. It's a cinch for him. 2. Xu Kai: "You are so cute with that helmet resembling a watermelon, looking like a cartoon figure, while everyone around is looking manly." (episode 1) 3. XK: "The director said to me, Kai - ah - your hand, your hand when using the needle, don't be too feminine, you are a marshal." 4. XK: "The real scenario is just to shout once and then let go. But I improvised and shouted 3 or 4 times. I wanted to show how serious I am about marrying A Ying". 5. Jing Tian: "I like the scene you asked me my real name. That scene is so "Xu Kai" himself, unlike other scenes, Li Ni is so cool and handsome." XK: "We improvised that scene by ourselves" JT: "Ah that's right, it was completely ad-lib. We added that by ourselves." 6. XK: "Actually, they asked me to eat round bread, I said no. Just give me some nuts or something and the crew happened to be snacking on sunflower seeds, so I said, just give me that." (episode 1). 7. XK: "some audience comment we use fake horse. It is not because we don't know how to ride a horse. Sometimes we cannot use real horse. We use both fake and real horse. The horses are tall and very fierce (imported), very dangerous actually. JT: "The road is very narrow. A lot of equipment including big and noisy drone is used and can get tangled in the trees and the noise can scare the horses. We have to work hard to control/tame our horses. My hand hurt a lot. If the horses go crazy, we will fall down the narrow road and get hurt. XK; we have to put safety first so we have to use fake and real horses, so not to delay the shooting.
I too feel that Xu Kai can be a good singer if he trained his voice more. He already has a beautiful voice. Gathering from one of his interviews, I believe has spent time looking for voice training strategies. It's too bad he didn't have formal music lessons growing up, but he is naturally talented and can learn on his own. I recall in interviews, Wu JInyan and Jing Tian have both remarked how fast Xu Kai can pick up things on the set. I think they were referring to martial arts.
Draco, I watched Ep 31 trailer and would not be surprised at all if that was Xu Kai own voice singing because I have listened to his singing of The Pearl of the Orient on You Tube and it sounds like his voice. I love his voice, it's distinctive, soothing, and romantic sound to me.

I finally got to full episode 19. Can you enlighten me as to why the long sad goodbye between Li Ni and Ying, and then next thing you know, they are both on horses breaching the Western Capital together. I thought he said to Ying to wait for him, he will be back to propose to her. So, for the first time in the movie, I couldn't feel the continuity. Things pivoted on a dime. It felt weird. Then suddenly, LI Ni is in the palace, look and acts different, such a about change.

I saw an interview and the producer said the Wonderland scene where they are walking, sitting, and laying was an actual physical set of colorful grass, trees, flowers, that they built with over 100 workers. They actually rode the horses, in fact, Xu Kai fell off the horse once and it worried them. The horses were imported.
