sorry, I'm a detail person, oh, but actually that's why I'm so into Xu Kai's acting, I like details and he's such a nuanced actor, so much to probe.

Person Xu Kai
Xu Kai is like a rockstar in Thailand, 3000 came to greet him. He must feel so humbled by it. He was constantly bowing to the crowd like every few second, I think. I love his signature pose when he extends his arms out and tilts his head back, closes his eyes, and deeply breathe like that feeling o begin alive. He's so original. Perhaps it'll energized him to start filming soon.

Xu Kai showed up no makeup to 3000 people!

SOTB is doing really well despite all the negative media — it’s basically a Samson‑vs‑Goliath situation.

all the drama review articles out of China I read are bad to xu kai dramas
here's an example: "If you want to see veteran actors deliver a showdown, choose 'Yi Ou Chun'."
it's because Xu Kai doesn't pay for media to elevate him or his dramas.

Noticed SML's father played XK's father in Court Lady. And Madam Huo was the empress in the same drama.
Oh XK's father from CL is in this too. I need to take a close look. I always remember his performance from CL. It just somehow stood out to me. CL has so many fun scenes.

Miao Pu who plays Huo Wen Zhuo is the same actress who played empress Empress Zhang Sun in Court Lady. No wonder she looked so familiar.

ML has very strong visual memory — he can take in everything at a glance and recall those details later well enough to reconstruct the whole scene.

It's sugarball attached to the bell at the tail of the horse. It was small in size so it got ignored( i am assuming).…
He has strong visual memory — he can take in everything at a glance and recall those details later well enough to piece the whole scene together. When the horse raced past him, he could still recall what was on its tail and everything else that was happening around him.

I found good episode summaries on the iQIYi site and copied them above, if you don’t mind spoilers and just want a quick paragraph for each episode.

The synopsis is a little misleading—it makes the drama sound like a straightforward revenge-romance plot, when…
MDL synopses are always lame. This is inaccurate: "lived on the streets until she met Shen Run,"
iQIYI synopsis is a bit better: The Deadly Man with a Thousand Faces, the Scheming Man" Shen Run, and the "Clear-headed Black Lotus of the Human World" Xie Qingyuan intertwine blades. Balancing reason and emotion, they join forces for revenge, engaging in open and covert struggles among the wealthy families, stirring up storms in the court and officialdom. In the end, they emerged from the depths of the undercurrents and pursued a brilliant rebirth.

Spring of the Blade turns out to be a suspense drama, a mystery, a case or detective drama, a revenge plot where both ML and FL are intertwined, both are equally dangerous and cutthroat and witty and scheming with others and each other. The core is the playful, Pride‑and‑Prejudice‑style banter that drives their whole dynamic. The drama has many layers for only 30 episodes—enough story for at least 40. Nanny Rong’s scenes alone were gripping. It’s not straightforward, and the filming style keeps your mind active, pushing you to engage with the story.

In this drama, we should see more than one character from Xu Kai, "The Deadly Man with a Thousand Faces,"

The positives:
First, the visual praise for "every frame can be a wallpaper" from real-scene shooting + natural light; Second, Zhou Ye's acting has improved significantly; her original voice lines are steady, and her eye expressions shift from laughter to sadness with delicate expressions have been praised as "stunning"; Third, Xu Kai made his first appearance in a costume drama with his original voice, erasing the Cantonese accent traces of his previous modern dramas. Combined with his cold, sly and sly acting style, the director described it as a precise interpretation of "playing dumb to outsmart others." Additionally, director Pan Anzi uses a 'suspense costume drama' technique—Chinese micro-horror tones and stage drama-style long take staging—to create a differentiated viewing experience."

Xie Qingyuan is clear‑minded, restrained, and calculating, with a gentle exterior that hides a blade‑sharp resolve. In the Xie household or aristocratic circles, she puts on a gentle, obedient front. Her face stays calm, quiet, and harmless, and she keeps her eyes lowered in a polite way that makes people think she’s weak. She uses a cold, hidden‑blade smile when she’s setting traps. Her eyes shift instantly in private moments or when watching enemies, turning sharp, still, and analytical as she sizes up the power dynamics. Rare grief or hesitation appears only when she faces the truth about her mother’s death or when she tests her old bond with Shen Run. Every movement she makes—pouring tea, curtseying, holding a cup, or walking—is slow, graceful, and controlled. She avoids quick or dramatic motions to keep an aristocratic, harmless look. When she’s provoked or in danger, she doesn’t panic; she goes still, listens, and lets others speak first to gather leverage. She steadies herself by touching small hidden tokens from her past, like the coin linked to Shen Run. She never rushes revenge, using family tensions, legal rules, or psychological pressure so her enemies damage themselves while she stays out of blame. She’s used to surviving alone, so she avoids relying on anyone. Even when Shen Run tries to help, she responds with cautious give‑and‑take instead of trust. She stays practical toward people who harmed her family but avoids hurting innocents, keeping a clear line between calculated justice and pointless cruelty.

Xie Qingyuan’s bond with Mother Chen—who raised her as Chen Yunya before she was sent back to the Xie estate—is completely different from her other relationships. With Mother Chen she drops her guard and shows real warmth and protectiveness, her gaze softens into that of an affectionate daughter, and she acts with childlike spontaneity. Her eyes crinkle with real smiles, light teasing, and warm emotion—the only time she looks truly relaxed. When she prepares to leave the tea shop or faces the threat of the Xie clan, her eyes show lingering pain, but she swallows it so she won’t worry Mother Chen.

do we have any confirmation if he recognises her? it would be weird if he hasn’t by now, but I wonder why he…
He gave her the coin so they can recognize each other in the future. She has not shown him the coin yet.

iQIYI changed the synopsis from “blade and scabbard” to “intertwined” — the first meant the ML was the blade being held steady by the FL, who acted as the scabbard, but the new wording implies a more entangled dynamic: they’re two sharp blades moving together, both can cut, both are dangerous, and both drive the revenge.
