Douban shows a snapshot of the latest 100 comments only. It's a rolling thing. If ten new comments come in, they remove the oldest ten. The latest average of 99 comments shows more 3's and 4's and less 5's but the average is still holding above 7. I think Douban is waiting to see more ratings after the finale because it's not stable yet. This is a pretty heavy ending, and it could polarize some viewers. You can't trust the average if it's full of fake comments, but I think it's ok here.

I like the phrase someone used here to describe this drama an "emotional earthquake."

I never expected MDL to rate it above an 8. So, if it lands at 8.1, that basically means it’s really an 8.6. With Xu Kai dramas, you always have to mentally add about 0.5.

Xu Kai will receive a breakthrough award for his performance.

"The first time I watched Xu Kai's drama was when I clicked on Li Ge Xing, when he and Fu Rou met for the first time, I wanted to wow, and there was such a handsome guy in the entertainment industry. I haven't seen any of his previous dramas, I haven't seen Fucha Fu Heng, and I don't know him, this is the first time I've seen this person on the screen. But I brushed this play tightly for a few seconds, and I didn't like the lady's court costume in it, so I didn't. The second time was last year when I unintentionally lit up the eternal dust, and the cold face and heartless white jue inside attracted me, dressed in white clothes, and then I seriously finished all the plots of the ages, not to mention, I can watch the fairy tale drama from the fragrant honey again. Although I only saw it after a year of release, Xu Kai's delicate performance really amazed me, and the three characters have different personalities and switch at will. Since then, I have watched all his dramas, except for Yanxi Gong Lue, of course, there are some works that I don't think are very good, but I finished brushing, I think every actor may not always be able to show his best side to the audience. But Leyou Yuan I chased after it, and I have to say that it is the best work I have ever seen his acting skills. Songge had been on dialysis for 4 yrs and only money talks. You saw how in ep. 2, the doctor brushed him off when he asked about the queue while someone else with money or influence just came in and got the transplant right away. I'm way behind in watching this, but I think in the beginning when he embarked on this desperate path and he was young and naive, to sell this contraband stuff, I don't believe it was as serious a crime. He didn't know it made people sick - did he? But it just somehow spiraled out of control the deeper he got into it, and even though he setup perfect crime, but then a dead body was discovered that started an investigation, and Songge made mistakes, and people affected also came after him. When a person is desperate and trapped, they will go out of their mind. His relationship with his father doesn't seem close.

#EightHundred topped the Vlinkage web‑drama chart last week and is holding strong this week, (updated) but since finale is Apr27 (Mon), I doubt it can get enough points this week.

Then later ep. he killed HKM not sure if that was premediated. I'm only on ep. 9.
I think the last ep. 20, he told them where he hid HKM's body.

Xu Kai said in livestream that Chen Hui was not pretending in the hospital. He did wake up from coma unresponsive. But after he went home after some time the story doesn't say when but at some point, he was normal again, yet he kept pretending. I think Grandpa suspected it when he spilled hot porridge on his hands, yet he stayed unresponsive.

I read that Xu Kai said in livestream that Chen Hui was not pretending in the hospital, only after he got home, after he came out of it, then he pretended to still be unresponsive.

I thought so too but I looked it up and 1979 is when China introduced its first modern, formal criminal code, so for Chen Hui, there may not have been a formal category called "Involuntary Manslaughter" yet; and the system was probably unpredictable. Also, he has no witnesses.

I felt that if Chen Hui didn't kill him first, he would kill Chen Hui, he kept coming after him.
It's possible the outcome of this story had to be this way due to censorship. Perhaps they had limitation on how to make a happier ending. It had to be the worst case ending, otherwise, it'll never air.

Based on sample size just now (it changes by the minute). I hope it can stay above 7. People give 1 star for reasons like "I don't like the story." The comments look real.
