Watched ep1-7. A few comments:1. The editing was a bit choppy. A lot of scenes were cut right after the last line…
Hey nice response! Just wanted to add tho: the reference 官家 to address the emperor was, during the Song dynasty, historically accurate. The reason being: 三皇官天下,五帝家天下。圣上兼三皇五帝之德,所以叫官家 . So don't let this bit of detail stop you from enjoying the show :))
Hey Guys! I feel really bad for posting this bc some ppl paid money to see the ending in advance (SORRY IF THIS IS U) HOWEVER IF YOU ARE REALLY DESPERATE LIKE ME , cbs waiting until next week and do not need subtitles to watch, there is a hack u can use to view eps 45-50 without getting vvip if you do not live in china. I'll post the youtube link below its v simple all you need to do is download a chrome extension https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99mVjiqwYL8&t=448s I tried a few times-first it kept playing another drama but then it worked! (for ep 45 at least as I am currently watching it RN) sorry this is kinda dodge also sorry for false excitement if this does not work for u !!
I can't believe so many people accept so lightly another bl destroyed by china... I dont care if is a masterpiece…
It is true that in terms of accepting homosexuality, China has a long way to go, and if only this censorship was lifted , perhaps we would have the opportunity to see the show more explicitly explore and define the relationship between WWX and LZ as maybe expressed in the novel (I haven't read it lol). However, as a really big fan of CQL, I am dismayed that many subsume this drama solely to its bl component (or in this case, the lack thereof?) and this is enough to make someone watch/reject this show, where in reality it is so much more. In fact, I think the romance component as a whole is a very minor portion compared to other themes, in the grand scheme of the plot and the storytelling. Maybe a difference with CQL is that the story line is not spurred on by the romance between WWX and LZ, but by the ruthlessness of the Wen clan, the hypocrisy of the self proclaimed 'righteous' sects when how they act suggests otherwise, the innocent caught between the crossfire of the two powers, and WWX's struggle in pursuing what he believes is right but what others define is wrong. This is what makes the show compelling. The themes in this drama encompass many complex relationships between the characters, extending way beyond a romance between 2 characters. As a viewer, I even enjoyed the suggestive romance between the two main leads, not only because of the subtle, almost teasing chemistry, but more importantly, because it lets the other complex themes shine through as they should. All in all, I reckon that CQL did very well to establish a balance between romance and its other integral elements. As much as I enjoy/love/live for/would die for the WWX/LZ couple, I must confess that THIS IS NOT THE MAIN POINT OF THE STORY. (Hence, I never really thought of cql as a 'censored show.') I think (and God hope there would be) much much better, more productive ways to protest against censorship in china. By refusing to watch cql, you are not sending a clear message of protest against censorship and homophobia as this is not the focus of the drama. Rather, your critique would be interpreted as a critique towards the overarching themes and character development. You can only decide these things for yourself if you actually watch it!!!!! (um...in retrospect I highly recommend???? >_<) TY (sorry this got longer than i thought)
