7.6 douban score!! and currently the highest rated web drama on douban!
I'm so proud considering Miaoyi and Yiran aren't bigger stars yet in mainland, and wifty got to air along with dramas from rising and traffic stars, to have douban score as high like this knowing that site was a den for haters, they really got a good rating! From 7.4 douban score and rising to 7.6!! WIFTY was really the darkhorse cdrama this year! They deserves this success!!
I really can't help but get annoyed with some tiktokers that are making edits of fiys and wifty (idk if it's only in my fyp) just to compare Yiran's partners, like who got more chemistry and such to the point that they'll say bad things about Miaoyi. I really don't care who you prefer but it doesn't sit well that a lot were calling my girl inappropriate names, she doesn't deserves that. I hope us viewers of wifty won't do the same thing they were doing with the upcoming dramas of Zaizai and Rangrang. I know preference is not avoidable but respect is something we can do, their job requires working with other actors and we should respect that.
Are there any non-carats waiting for Exclusive Fairytale to be released? If so, show yourself and tell us how…
I'm a fan of youth dramas, I came to know Miaoyi since Let's Meet Now and when they've announce a new school drama directed by Cattree and that she'll be the lead actress of it I really got excited for it. Since booting ceremony of WIFTY I think around August 2021 I've been following her updates and such in weibo, after months of filming for that drama around October 2021 she had another booting ceremony for this role Xiao Tu in Exclusive Fairytale, they finished filming for EF around December 2021. Since then I've been anticipating this drama together with WIFTY, I really thought this one will come out first or it will air around June-August last year since WIFTY postponed their filming for about 6 months to a year, they've change actors and filming sites and needed to reshoot the scenes they've done with the actor that they changed, they've gone through some setbacks with funds for production too. It's quite a surprise that WIFTY was able to air last month than EF considering those setbacks, nonetheless it's exciting to know it will air this summer too. Waiting for this drama since 2021 and I'm really hoping for the success like what happened with WIFTY!
iQiyi really needs to drop this now or even tell us when this is going to air, I'm quite afraid they'll air this…
And if ever they set to air this after summer then it's a miss opportunity as some youth dramas are quite doing well during this time, take wifty as an example. July-August airing date seems a good schedule for this drama, they do have license to distribute this already and I wonder if did they even finish with the dubbing? (One thing I like about iQiyi though is they rarely used dubbers, the actors are the ones who are dubbing) If this is already dubbed then what's stopping iQiyi to air this? With that number of reservations and fans of both leads anticipating the drama it's already a great opportunity to air this. Waiting has been a long overdue for this drama.
iQiyi really needs to drop this now or even tell us when this is going to air, I'm quite afraid they'll air this alongside with their much anticipated xanxia and wuxia dramas e.g., Love You Seven Times and Mysterious Lotus Casebook and if ever Exclusive Fairytale coincided with these dramas iQiyi will probably neglect EF in terms of promotions especially this is a youth idol drama, fans will be the one carrying the promotions if that's the case.
if melon is true then i'm gonna watch out for this, zhou yiran need a lot of lead roles he is really a good up-and-coming actor, do hope yang chaoyue's acting got improve though, nonetheless excited for this pairing if ever this is true
A typical school/campus series that have its own charms
I just love that even though this drama is "typical school drama" it still shown its own charms. What I love mostly for this drama are the characters well except for Rang's parents, you will know why hahaha.
Even though main characters are Zaizai and Lurang, the drama was able to unfold stories from their friends.
Guan Fang's background story, his character development and his relationship with his grandma was told in a good way that it makes me miss my grandma too. He wasn't just a character intended for comedic relief, he has his own story to tell.
Gu Ran's situation with his doctor parents are well told too, they've shown a perspective of a child who's unintentionally got neglect by his parents due to the kind of work they had and love how they showed Gu Ran's perspective within the situation.
Jiang Jia's choosing what career to go through was represented well, as a person who gone through the same thing, choosing for career path was one of the hard things in entering college and the way they've shown how Jiang Jia put her mind through it and not just choosing relentlessly is something I applaud for her arc.
As for the leads, Rangrang came from a family who constantly compares him to his sibling who appears as "better" than he is. As a child who also had a sibling I kind of experience this kind of thing, maybe this was "normalized" in Asian household? Which honestly should be stop as confidence is something hard to build for, it's easy to destroy one's self-esteem but building it again is not. I like how they show his brother's POV with this situation too, not just Rangrang. Not dwelling too much with the parents for the succeeding episode was good too, his parents don't deserve to have a close tight relationship with him as they are the reason for affecting and questioning his worth, however, it's good that things changed after his "brother" incident but reconciliation is not really needed and they didn't push that arc thank god. I love how they focuses more on his closeness with his uncle and how Rangrang choose to celebrate with him during holidays, it just shows that his uncle home is his home too. Zhang Lurang was able to see different meaning of life after meeting his friends, and it was represented well. He is that introverted boy who got to meet extroverted friends, and that's the start of him feeling the significance of his existence, it wasn't mediocre, he just have to meet the right people that'll appreciate him for who he is, to see him for his worth rather than on what he is lacking. I love his character development, I swear!
As for Zaizai, she have a good and cheerful family, most of her conflicts came from school related stuffs unlike Guan Fang, Gu Ran and Rangrang's situation. She knows her worth and she is standing up for herself, it is something I really admire for her character. Unlike other female leads in other school dramas who are damsel in distress, Zaizai is a character who knows her rights and knows how to defend herself. She is also the pillar of F5 (their squad), without her initiating to know Zhang Lurang in first episodes the squad wouldn't even the way that they are in succeeding episodes, they really got close after the military training.
Their squad is also something you'll love in this series, all of them are there for each other through thick and thin. The way they resolve one's problem together and support each other's decisions is something I really clap for with their friendship. Their rapport and dynamics as a squad felt so real, it wasn't forced, they all went through gradual process of building friendship, Gu Ran and Rang already know each other since they were kids though. Who would've thought that top students from class 1 will be friends with students from regular class? Despite of the class superiority does the students from honor class had, especially their class monitor and her friends having a beef with Zaizai (they were so jealous for unknown reasons), it didn't became a hindrance for Rang, Gu Ran and Guan Fang to make friends with the girls. One of my favorite scenes was the boys and Jiang Jia helping Zaizai to clear her name against the accusations from class 1, they even confronted the class monitor. Hence, that's the start of their close bond and became best friends for life.
For the Loveline aspects, it will take a while for them to officially date but you can tell in early episodes that both are whipped with each other, I do think Rangrang did fell in love at first sight too, he just didn't confess right away because Zaizai did tell him that she was only 16 (right after the sports event, when Zaizai was giving back the medal to Rangrang and he unintentionally asked if Zai likes him) besides their school was prohibiting the students to have a romantic relationship. The boy waited for three years to confess, I love how he didn't let Zaizai to confess to him first, he did take the initiative this time. I love how Rangrang wasn't your typical cold, arrogant and rude male lead, he is just quiet but a lovely boy as Gu Ran said, he is just your boy who is shy and awkward but that doesn't make him a cold and arrogant. I love how he embraces Zaizai and the squad with his life.
Zaizai on the other hand wasn't the female lead who constantly stalks and follows the male lead, both of them went though getting to know each other phase, though Zaizai takes the initiative most of the time, she didn't harass the male lead contrary to other school dramas. I love the rapport within their relationship, the misunderstandings doesn't drag on as it was resolve within 1-2 episodes. The assurance and communication of these two is so good that'll make you ask if they are really high schoolers? These two are better than adults. Their trust for each other is too good to be true, nonetheless, it's something to dream of in real life.
Gu Ran and Jiang Jia's love story was your typical frenemies-to-lovers trope with a little bit of one sided crush, it was executed well though! This is the first time I love second couple as much as the first couple.
Guan Fang doesn't have his own love line which is not really much needed and I applaud the director for that, not because your friends are in love you have to be in love too. I love how he is fifth wheeling though HAHAHAHA.
For me this is their own charms, it may be your typical coming-of-age drama but they were able to show us the innocence of friendship and youth. It wasn't forced, it feels like you are growing with them too. The five main characters felt that they are real as they faces their own shortcomings, they weren't perfectly perfect, they have weaknesses and they slowly overcome those throughout the series. It feels like you were also one of their classmates as well since those situations are something you did experience or might experience too. That's something some youth dramas failed to show, most of them focuses on love story and having an oh-so-good godlike character that can do all and a dumb-dumb character that will depend their life with their crushes, of course I love those storylines as I am really a sucker for youth dramas but it's kind of outdated trope now to be honest, I'm glad When I Fly Towards You gave us something typical but admiring storytelling of our youth.
I've been waiting for this drama since their booting, I'm so sad when it gone through postponement of filming to changing some actors and filming setting (Guan Fang and Gu Ran's actors are well fit though so I don't mind the changes with their actors), they've gone through much. I saw Miaoyi's video crying after watching first episode and I can really feel her as this production have encounter a lot of setbacks while filming, I'm really glad that her and Yiran didn't left the show despites of the despites, can't imagine someone playing Rangrang and Zaizai as both of them embodied the character so well.
The success they're getting right now was well deserved, I just hope Youku promoted it the way it deserves, they kind of stop promoting this show after releasing Hidden Love not that I'm telling HL don't deserve it but I just hope they didn't neglect this series as it was a gem for coming-of-age drama.
Anyway, I'll be having a hard time to watch Zhang Miaoyi and Zhou Yiran's Drama with Seventeen's Jun and Dafei as I can't move on with their team up. They embodied Su Zaizai and Zhang Lurang so well that I don't want them to see with other partners, however, I'll still watch those to support my newly favorite actors. I'll watch out for you Yiran and Miaoyi! I'm glad both of you are open to work together again, hoping for more success!!
PS. The OSTs are so good too! The feeling of nostalgia and wanting to go back in year 2012 while listening to it was captured in the songs.
We have the same concerns too. As a fan of Yiyi CP, it concerns us too that both Zhou Yiran and Zhang Miaoyi's…
I do really feel you with underestimating the chemistry of the actors as during the run of WIFTY some fans of Falling into your smile were comparing Yiran's chemistry with Miaoyi to his partner in that drama, a lot were saying they prefer him much more in FIYS than in WIFTY, a lot are underestimating Miaoyi too as she was kind of new actress, WIFTY was her first major role. However, us Feiben fans didn't really mind those people as their opinions don't really matter at all, the important thing is to support the drama and gave them the success they deserve. If ever you encounter Feiben fans comparing Jun and Yiran, please do ignore it as it was just a small portion of our fandom, a lot of us were really excited with Miaoyi and Yiran's upcoming dramas. I do know Jun as Seventeen and I'm really excited with his actor side, I've heard he was a child actor way back and that really makes me anticipate him more as this will be considered as his comeback in drama land. As I can see Exclusive Fairytale do have a good number of reservations, that was an indication that a lot were anticipating the drama. I wish they'll achieve the same success of When I Fly Towards You.
Came to check this one when it was aired almost the same time with Moonlight, both have the same author but I really can't finish this one, I can't tolerate female lead's expressionless acting, I don't know if that was really her type of acting or she really just need to attend an acting class? I've tried to watch this again for Zhou Yiran but I really can't past through couple of episode.
mangotv sucks at their subtitles thankfully this will be in iqiyi too... ahhh can't imagine zhou yiran as bully i'm still so used with him as quiet and shy rangrang! nonetheless i'll wait for this drama, this will be my second drama with dafei, like her in closer to you it's really a disappointment she wasn't in the second season anyways, hope she and zhou yiran will have great chemistry too!
ps. if you're following @zhouyiran1122 that ig user is a poser the real one was made 2 days ago!
