I'm about 80% finished with this drama. This is a very water downed "police" drama. Feels more like a documentary or slice of life instead of a thriller/suspense type of drama.

Because the show has Dex in it. So it draw's in a crowd younger rom com audience. Always keep this in mind when you look at ratings. Those types of audiences will upvote any romance drama and downvote anything else.
I didn't understand the mixed reactions until I actually watch the show. Now I understand. This show isn't intended for your typical Kdrama viewer (based on what MDLers like to rate high). This show has alot of mature elements.

The cast consist of mostly older plain looking actors and actress. Not your typical handsome/beautiful cast.

Only half true. Japan mostly issued general apologies on the "war". However when it came to individual events they downplay or outright deny. Some examples like comfort woman they said it was mostly done of free will not force. Or Nanjing where they downplay the actual numbers killed. Other times they blame it on "rogue" commanders.
Of course the Japanese government is a group of individuals and every person has own opinion. But the majority in power is downplaying or removing it from their history books. Just ask your average Japanese person about what happen. They will recount a very different version of WW2 than what you or I know. Not their fault because thats what they are taught in school but you get my point.

They have to put the divorce near the end because once they divorce the story has to end. Think about it. If they divorce on episode 3, none of the cast/family would see each other any more. It be a completely different story.
