I like how... well, normal, Gene is. He's anxious, is clear about boundaries, does not explode over minimal stuff or create drama out of thin air, is just trying to do his job and go about his life as peaceful as possible. I also like how refreshing Nubsib's characterization is for a lead. (Not always, but) in a lot of shows the lead is brooding and super serious and kinda antisocial - which can be great! It's a classic for a reason! But stepping outside of that, especially for a show as satirical as this one, makes it feel new and interesting! He still has a bit of a dark side, but his dynamic with Gene is soft, playful, silly, full of respect for each other's boundaries.

I think she thought he was gay?? as in, homosexual instead of bisexual. it's clear she has a crush (at the very least) on him, too, their chemistry is so obvious. maybe her thoughts were like "he realized i have a crush on him and is trying to trick me" - they are in a pretty ruthless industry, she may be used to being wary of everyone as a young female manager.
