I agree with your comment, If the intent of the screenwriter was that they would not be together the end, the ending scene should have been where they went in seperate ways in ep 30. There would have been no special episode. The fact that their friends brought them together again and anran choosing to be together with mu chuan means it's possible they can be together legally and publicly. She would have not chosen mu chuan if the circumstances are unfavorable because she would suffer the same fate of being unhappy all over again. In regards to the medicine , may be donqing gave her a fake or defective medicine. Tbh there are many deleted scene not shown that may explain things more.
