I don't think the recent fanwar was about screentime, it was more about the online or offline bullying of a fandom.

The actors with more screentime won't be the most memorable one. I agree with that. But when the screenwriter is GJM himself how can you believe that principle. Let's bring MJTY where GJM was the screenwriter. You mentioned 2nd leads were more charismatic than 1st leads. Yup it's true and that is because it was written by him. Personally I really thought Yu Shu Xin's character would be the most memorable one before watching. As the preview, character setting highlighted her. But her past was barely shown. Zhang Linghe was the most miserable one. He mentioned in an interview that the character development of his role was completely wiped out from the main film. He filmed for nothing. Both Yu Shu Xin & Zhang Linghe were used as tools to promote others. Not only MJTY, GJM's previous works were also like that.
Putting aside the screentime issue, I suggest you to watch the MV again. Take a good look at the CGI of the male lead and 2nd male lead. One is detailed while the others are cheap looking, especially the red power of Zhao Yuan Zhou were poorly done.
Let me share the saddest truth. Hou Ming Hao's fandom didn't upload a single post about the unfair screentiming issue on weibo. Because all the editing process is under GJM's hand. They don't want to get into a fight with GJM right now. International fandom got the actual scenario of the screentime from the Marketing Accounts which posted a detailed list of everyone's screentime after the MV was out.

Let me answer you about HMH fans & CDL fans:
Last year, 3months before the filming started, there was a melon saying HMH and CDL will be the leads of FOF and HMH will be the first billing. Fans of CDL started protesting saying CDL deserves first billing, CDL had bigger fandom, they don't want CDL to work with someone low like HMH. They started bulling more & more when the concept poster of FOF contained only ZYZ. Bulling means posting nasty madeup things/edited pictures on weibo. They asked CDL not to act in this project and bla bla bla.
But CDL spoke out and asked her fans to stop & said it was her own choice to act as the second billing.
That was the whole issue.

2M followers means they got attracted to him and followed him. Likes also depends on that. If any followers see the post they will give a thumbs up. It has nothing to do with the number of loyal fans. Previously I thought he had more fans, but fans from offline events are too small to call them big..example Hi6. Likes can always be bought from marketing accounts if the fans are rich enough.
