i’ve watched 10eps so far and idk how to feel about FH4. it’s good (so far), but not as good as the first and second series (as well as compared to other similar dramas outside of tvb nowadays, especially mainland china, which i know the production team of FH4 hope to market to so it explains why they had to change and refilm one character because of a scandal) —this is a bit disappointing since it’s mui siu ching’s last work with tvb. i can only hope that the following eps will be better (but i’ve learnt that this benefit of doubt does not apply to tvb productions since most of their productions in the past years have been quite disappointing considering that they've made public that they’re really unwilling to try ‘new things’ because they’re scared of losing their loyal audiences....which does not make any sense to me tbh).
so far, i think they’re trying too hard with the character developments and the suspense carried out in each case and the main leads personal life. while it’s true that this production seem more high quality than the past series, but other than that + the ensemble of notable actors —there’s nothing that really stands out, seem refreshing or new.
lmao, and i think mui siu ching has a weird interest in clowns —if you’ve seen the past series, then you will know what i’m talking about. expect to see more clowns.
i think the only aspect that i like about this drama so far is selena li as one of the main cast —i really think she stole the show in season 2 and it’s nice to see her take up this challenging role which she has never acted before despite being in the industry for so long. i think tvb really wasted her talent (thankfully she’s not with tvb anymore and is trying to open herself for more opportunities overseas).
i also think that picking roxanne to replace jacqueline’s role was a good move on the production team. i know that they changed jac because of her cheating scandal. but nevertheless, i think roxanne looks more of a suitable match with raymond than jac —so i’m happy with this change cause i really can’t see jac acting as raymond’s love interest (if only i can insert an awkward face emoji, i would lol).
i’m also aware that i should be focusing more on the criminal cases, but honestly, since none of them have appealed to me so far —i’m more invested in raymond’s and roxanne’s developing relationship :/
secondary couples were: love- Qing Yao & Yun Feng (the Doctor foxie and goddess and Tian Zun’s disciple); jokeful…
actually it should be 3! ling xi + jiu chen \ qing yao + yun feng \ shi ming + shi san (although their story ended on a vague note because [spoiler] shi san lost her memory in the ending.
this is probably an unpopular opinion but i enjoyed this spin-off a lot more than eternal love (which i found myself skipping a lot and didn't enjoy it until around ep 30 because the first half of the drama was too cliche for me (yang mi has played too many similar roles and it became boring for me) + i was more invested in the side couples (such as dongfeng) rather than the main, which is disappointing imo despite their brilliant acting especially mark chao.
in love and destiny, the pace is slower than eternal love but as the story unfolds, everything will make sense and you'll see that the events that happened in the early episodes are necessary. personally, i think the acting in love and destiny is a lot better than eternal love as well. there's a review on yt that i think it worthy to watch if you're feeling a little hesitant to start love and destiny —i agree with the reviewer 100%.

it's been a while since i finished the drama, but from memory none of the one-sided love became couples. the furthest that happened would just be "friends", such as ling xi and jing xiu in themortal realm arc. [spoiler] rather loving ling xi as ling xi, jing xiu was in love with her mortal identity, lin mo.
does the deng lun and yang zi storyline exist anywhere on its own?
a year late, but if by “exist anywhere on its own” mean something like they have their own story, then yes :) plenty of cuteness compared to aol (deng lun looks soooo young lmao)
the drama’s story is essentially about the four ‘sisters’ and they all have their story and fair share of screentime. however, many of it is told through ye fan’s narrative as she is the one who eventually reunite the sisters. not sure if ‘dramatic’ is your cup of tea, but since this drama was written by chiung yao, so it’s pretty old-fashion and dramatic (with deng lun and yang zi serving as the more calming and comedic couple). i personally think that it was overall enjoyable —nothing amazing though.
Can someone remind me pls where Fengjun’s Xiao Bai name came from? Was that when she was Dijun’s pet fox or…
adding to olivia's comment, "xiao" basically translate to "little/young", and "bai" means "white". so dijun is literally calling her little white haha.
at least the people on MDL are more lenient than the people on duoban —an average rating of 5.6 :') hopefully…
i concur everything you said —exactly what is on my mind in regards to the ratings and the progression of the show so far. i haven’t rated anything either since i think it’s only fair to do so after finishing a drama. tbh, i didn’t didn’t enjoy tmopb as much as i was expecting myself to; i spent most of the time more invested in feng jiu and dong hua which is why i’m giving elod a try now + probs some hope that the next arc would be better, just like how love and destiny improved.
Agree 2006 has prettiest xiaolongnu2014 has prettiest limochou and other girls gank
i would have to agree with SreyUnknown on this one. even though michelle is somewhat “pretty”, but her prettiness is not really suited for the xiao long nu character. imo, liu yifei is still the most suitable for the xiao long nu role to date; this is backed up by jin yong himself (the original author).

a fair call, i guess. but that pretty much happens to almost all rating sites and the internet haha so it's still a 50/50 for me.
it's interesting when you mentioned "past beef between their faves" because not only that, the fans also tries to boycott their fave artist(s) to push for better production quality/works (which i find odd), such as what happened to jaywalk studio last year :/ (but in a way, i understand their concerns, but boycotting a production/company/or an artist is not the way to do it.)
at least the people on MDL are more lenient than the people on duoban —an average rating of 5.6 :') hopefully…
it's sort of a 50/50 for me since i sometimes agree with the harsh criticisms from the c-netizens. it's like rotten tomatoes and imdb, there are movies well received by the public and fans but ratings would still be low.
Damn the rating went from 9.1 to 8.9 to 8.8 , cmon people I swear it's not bad at all yall should give it a chance!!!…
at least the people on MDL are more lenient than the people on duoban —an average rating of 5.6 :') hopefully it can pick up the ratings like love and destiny, which boosted from 5.4 to 8.3.
zheng shuang is known for her “bad acting” so it’s no surprise that you caught up on that haha. but if you’ve seen her on TV shows, she actually admits that she doesn’t really like acting and if she has a choice she would prefer to just be an internet celebrity.
i think it’s unfair to say that this drama is a “copycat” of the heirs though, because it’s nothing alike. and because you mentioned that you’ve only watched 6 episodes, i think it makes it unfairer to compare it to the heirs. if there are dramas to compare to the heirs, i think better fits would be boys over flower and meteor garden. imo, love o2o stands on its own despite having cliches here and there, because its central plot is about gaming&romance, which the heirs does not have in their plot.
i also think that the fact that this is a drama, we shouldn’t always compare it to reality (although there are limitations depending on target audience and market). some people seek pleasure from dramas like these in order to de-stress themselves from school life, work and etc. by saying how can people like these kind of dramas is sort of degrading the viewers who actually enjoyed the show. there’s the right for freedom of speech, but we should also be mindful for other people’s feelings as well as know the boundaries how of harsh we can critic a piece of work.
i agree when you said "if you’re a huge fan of wuxia/martial arts this would be your cup of tea" because the…
out of the condor trilogy, my favourite is the story about huang rong and guo jing (a majority of people prefer the second instalment). i find it interesting when people really like her character because she’s strong and sort of feisty. i think her character is mainly influence from how she was raised by her father, huang yaoshi who is known as someone who doesn’t like rules and likes to do things his own way —he’s described as an unorthodox radical and in some way, huang rong used to be the same until she met guo jing who exposed her to what’s right and wrong. and what made her so attracted to a “dumb” character like him is because of how he sincerely treats people, but unfortunately this is also his weakness. i think the saying opposite attracts really fits well with our leads haha. huang rong’s character was actually pretty unlikable in the second instalment of the condor trilogy (in which yang kang’s son is the main lead with the famous xiao long nu).
i like your romeo and juliet example; it’s probably a better example than my macbeth one HAHAHAHA

or another option is to just wait for everything to be released and watch it through legal streaming sites :)
