Article The Japanese Disappointments of 2012
I was quite taken with the description of Monsters - loud, rude detective is joined by a naive but wealthy younger colleague (with a large girlfriend, which I especially liked the idea of) and they solve every case. And I like Yamapi as a rule. But after two episodes I couldn't bear it any more! SMAPS's Shingo's overacting and mugging at the camera were more irritating than nails down a blackboard and the plots were nonensical. Priceless, on the other hand, with SMAP-mate Kimura Takuya, has proved to be really fun, if people are looking for a Jdorama to follow. The characters are quirky and eccentric not insane and the plots are comic but also carry the usual J-messages about team work and family lightly and affectionately.
