The visual FX and production were good, the actors were doing their best (I already knew that Ayano Go and Kishii Yukino could deliver a great performance, but I was pleasantly surprised by Narita Ryo's acting, I need to pay more attention to his roles in the future). But I got the impression, this movie is not as good as it could be and the director failed to fully use the potential of the story. But to be fair, the source material is quite bizarre, and it's not that easy to put it on screen.
This drama actually works pretty well as a prequel to Ishi no Mayu, as it adds another reason why Yaginuma Masato is so broken and hateful towards the police.
At some point I started wondering if I was supposed to feel sorry for him just because he got into gardening and instead of planting dead bodies he decided to plant some peonies. But nah, he went full psycho in the end.
New Journey to the West is definitely my favourite (especially seasons 2-4).
No other k-show ever made me laugh so much (except maybe for Running Man in its prime and some random moments in Knowing Brothers).
As for idol group-centered shows I think SuJu and BTOB are best when it comes to entertainment and being naturally hilarious. I also remember watching Shinhwa Broadcast while ago and it had some great moments too. I think the chemistry between the members is a key factor in making the show genuinely funny.
I loved the bizarre story, weird characters and of course Mika Ninagawa's neon aesthetics. Even though the third act was the weakest I enjoyed this movie much more than I expected.
