Yeah it was not unnecessary, those earlier episode. I think the fault is on story telling (screen writer?[I dont know]) or the directing (directors??). It feels forced or weird. If I am not wuxia fan then I am not going to give this a second look. It really pales on comparison to Joy To Life or Story Of Ming Lan.
