For the trial to end, there has be a sacrifice. Shanggu never actually sacrificed herself so the trial never ended. Bai Jue basically just postponed it so he can prepare to be the one for the sacrifice. He can't save her just to let her make the sacrifice again. If the god of chaos does not make the sacrifice, things will just blow up. Yes, Gu Jun help saved her but when she's saved it didn't solve the problem. Since there has to be a sacrifice, Bai Jue wants it to be him to be the one to sacrifice.

I think if things went according to Bai Jue's plan, Shanggu would have supposedly lived a happy and carefree life as Hou Chi. He would have just sacrificed himself without her knowing anything. She would still have her father, Feng Ran and he didn't kill Tian Qu so he knew that Tian Qu is still alive.
I think what went wrong with his plan is that he never expected that Ming Qu and Hou Chi would fall in love. When he separated his soul and created Ming Qu, I believe the only thing that Ming Qu was suppose to do is cultivated demon energy then merge with him later. The whole love thing was not suppose to happen.
I think if the love thing never happened, Hou Chi would not have known about Ming Qu or Bai Jue so she wouldn't care so much if he sacrificed himself. Since the love happened, even after he came back as Bai Jue, she came to him and etc. I think because of that he was forced to change his plan and try to make her hate him instead. So if she hates him, even when he dies, she wouldn't be sad.

Yes ^^ I've been following his dramas for a while too so I know he can act. I love how he can act through his eyes :) I just so annoying to see the criticisms because it makes no sense to me. I saw some comments saying he's expressionless or awkward. But I'm thinking, isn't he suppose to be like that. His nickname is not Ice Cube for no reason -_-"
I don't understand why people are criticizing Xu Kai's acting. I think he's portraying all the characters perfectly. I didn't read the novel but from what I understand, Bai Jue is suppose to be expressionless/doesn't show his emotions often. There's a part in the drama that Shanggu mentions that too. To my understanding, Shanggu was the one that changed him that's why as the drama progresses and we see Bai Jue's smile when he's with Shanggu ^^
QingMu is cheeky and affectionate so different from Bai Jue.
I don't understand the criticisms at all. I think Xu Kai is doing an outstanding job. He can even switch between Bai Jue and Qing Mu in one scene. I clearly see the difference of Bai Jue and Qing Mu in his eyes. Those who watched episode 23 should know what I'm talking about.
I'm really enjoying this drama. Other than the touching storyline, I think everyone's acting is amazing. I cant enjoy a drama with terrible acting even if the story is perfect.
