all the lesbian sex scenes in this movie were produced by a lesbian woman. this movie is literally about 2 women…
you enjoy gl because its not as mainstream yet. this film however went very mainstream and as a result, men saw it also. you cannot blame the film for its viewers. and you cannot disregard the film's significance just because of a few scenes and because you don't like that men like the show also. if gls were more mainstream, there would be a lot of male viewers also. those men would be attracted to the sex scenes in those aswell. would you then say the films/shows are made for the male gaze?
being for male gaze ≠ men watching the film
men will always fetishise lesbians. every single lesbian sex scenes etc, will "cater" to men because men will always fetishise it. if this film wasn't as mainstream, and a lot of males didn't watch it too, trust me you'd have a different opinion on it.

you seem like a prude lol just fucking skip it. you've turned a blind eye to the important parts of the film just cause you fixate on those sex scenes so much. you don't like explicit sex scenes, sure but that doesn't mean those sex scenes are for the male gaze either. hell, most of the people who enjoy those scenes are lesbians themselves.

so you didn't like the sex scenes, cool. however that wasn't the only thing going on in the film. you can't completely disregard the film's significance off of that little thing. the film itself is extremely well made. you could've skipped those scenes if you didn't like them.
labelling the film as simply "a film made for the male gaze" based only off of that is disrespectful to every other part of the show that goes against it.

male gaze definition, since you clearly dont know; "Male gaze is when women in films are shown mainly to please straight men, through sexualization, lack of depth, or being passive objects of desire to men in those films."
The Handmaiden CANT be for the male gaze as it literally centers women’s desires, not men’s fantasies. the parts where male fantasies were the forefront were shunned upon and AGAIN, the entire point of the show was to put an end to those male fantasies and have the 2 women be free from men.
Instead of objectifying them like a film meant for the male gaze would have, the film shows their relationship as real, powerful, and freeing.

and the entire point of the movie was to highlight how disgusting men are. that's the point of all those nasty things done by males in the start. again, THE ENTIRE POINT of the movie is to have revenge on disgusting men while highlighting how gross men are. did you deadass watch with your eyes close??? how is this the viewpoint you gain after watching this??

are you daft? the movie itself was produced by Park chan wook but a woman directed the love scenes in the show. this was done to not have those scenes in the male gaze. deter fools like you from stating this rubbish yet clearly you're still ignorant to this fact.
It’s just horrible I don’t know why ppl like it so much when it’s so clearly written for men, it’s actually…
all the lesbian sex scenes in this movie were produced by a lesbian woman. this movie is literally about 2 women getting revenge on all the terrible men in their lives, succeeding together and living their best lived afterwards, if you missed this, you mustve watched with your eyes closed. nothing in this show is directed towards the male gaze at all. Just because the sex scenes are hot doesn't mean they were meant for the male gaze, they werent even directed by a man ffs.
yoko is a terrible actress. aneung's character behaves like an infant and the show give predatory vibes overall. overrated rubbish loved by the gl community once again!
this is honestly a really good show! I get that a lot of bl watchers dont like it because the bl isnt as "in your face" as others but I quite liked the progression of the main leads' romance and it felt very natural to me...
