the movie couldn't capture the magic of the anime or the manga. so many characters, so little time to develop their stories. they should have gone with the drama series rather than a movie for this kind of story.
in the end when Ji an left , Park Dong Hoon was sitting alone in his house and crying . does that mean he likes…
i think it's more like complex feeling toward his life. he finally 'over'his marriage (her wife decision to go to US is symbol of their separation), and that harsh realization just came to his when he ate, alone, in their house. so i think it's more like about his feeling 'to fail and to lose' his family in the end, him being lonely again, and this time with no one help him (as Ji an did before). so, i don't think it's about ji an in particular. besides, park dong hoon is very respectful man. he didn't see ji an in that romantic way as long as he still married, albeit he was feeling grateful toward her. and yes, he got separated with his wife. in their final scene, he referred her as 'my kid-mom' not his wife (in korean. if you watching with sub, it's mistranslated with wife).
It started out pretty slow but it gets more interesting ....or more heartwarming as it goes on. The best part…
i binged watching it, but i ended up loving it. i was pretty hesitant to watch it since the age gap (which from my past experience didn't work well with goblin, i dropped after 5 or 6), but since it was re-run on tv, i thought, why not. then the rest is history. damn, this drama is so good. the age-gap romance that was my biggest worried at first, surprisingly was beautifully portrayed by the director/writer. unlike goblin which i felt uneasy watching 'ahjussi' falling in love with high school student, i felt warm watching my mister's OTPs interaction. maybe because the male lead character is someone with high moral ground that i don't believe he sees ji an in that simple romantic way. ji an surely is someone special not just in his heart but his life. i mean, she's like his freaking savior (well, they both to each other). but even that, he's very respectful man until the end. i don't know if he finally see ji an in that way, but i am satisfied enough with the ending. and the fact that both are trying to live their life to their best for each other sake, is enough for me to think that their love is in different level, level above, wayyy above. it's the love at the most purest form that can not simply translated with words.
i hate all IU dramas but when i saw this drama i fail in love with her acting,,,,IU made this drama a masterpiece…
well, it took more than 5 episodes for me to understand the story, and yes the plot was insanely slow in the beginning. i was not really focused to the main story, and more into the affair plot and only watched it on re-run. but then, i got interested once the affair came to the open, and after that, every scenes became matter to me. all their emotion struck me right to the heart. almost every episodes i cried. this is not drama, this is life. this is not 'merely romance', this is a human story, about feeling, about loneliness, about compassion, about something deep in human's heart. this is story about being human. simply put, this is masterpiece. but, if it is not your cup of tea, then it's just not. and this is probably one of the most 'romantic' story I've ever watched despite the open ending.
the ending was not that bad. compare to Our Time that main focus is romance, Yesterday Once More is more focusing on pursuing ones dream. so i guess, the ending is more relatable in that way. anyway, while i was watching this movie, i can not help myself thinking about other movie which i forgot what the title was. if anyone can help, the story about two childhood friend. the boy is very quite so appeared cold. the girl didn't realize her own feeling until she saw the boy had crush with someone else. the boy had crush with his female teacher who's already had a boyfriend. the boy liked to eat in girl's home. his father is missing, and his stepmother accused girl's mother hide him because she accused girl's mother having an affair with boy's father. does anyone know this movie ?
i laugh when you said "the bullying is over the top and the cast acts more like immature high schooler". really…
intentionally bring outs sexual harassment/ bullying/abuse of power in campus is not considered 'over the top' and 'ridiculous'. it is serious issues that happens lot more than people think. modern or high educated society does not equal high morality. helping women from possibly sexual harassment or individual bullying (or hold her body when she almost fell) are not and should have not been considered as man arrogancy. in what sense ? the bathroom scenes showed the ugly face of seniority-based culture where abuse of power could easily been practising. there's nothing ridiculous to include that conflict as part of plot line for the sake of character narrative, as long as it is the opposite of and does not encourage bullying in any way. years of bullying and rejections could easily lead victim to have low self-respect and poor self-awareness. different woman will react differently toward sexual harassment, you can not expect every women to be 'smart' enough to measuring that unpleasant experience and taking action at that instance. imho.
love your comment from beginning to end. i am quite surprise that i still found comments in other forum complaining that the female lead is weak. i am like, whaatttt ?? Mirae is fearless. and not because she chased down her stalker. because she's naturally shy and insecure but when the moments come, she will stand up high defending herself.
and yes, i dunno who is the male actor. at first, i found him cute, but a little bit too young compare to female lead. the acting also not the best, but somehow i still get kyong suk vibe from him. and yes, kyung suk is a no nonsense type of guy. he's blunt, straight to the problem, good observant, not too proud to say sorry when he's wrong ,a little bit rude but not hot tempered, and still have childish side that make him cute. he's a keeper.
I actually think Mi-rae is less shy in the drama. Anyway, I'm actually loving both versions of the main characters.…
ah, i got what you meant now. you were talking about lee ye rim. but she's not wearing a costume. she's quite chubby, and she gain like 9 kg for the role. if you watched her previous show, 'please take care of my father', she's pretty much the same figure.
just for you info. young mirae face is not shown in this drama (unlike webtoon) due to the producers decided that it was best not to set the standards of what is considered to be unattractive, as it may offend viewers. Instead, they opted for not showing her face at all in the show. the producers of this drama are considered people, so it is unlikely they ask actress to put a costume to play chubby character.
learn asian college culture then you will understand.
because real life is not ideal, no matter how year or era we are now. the message is, there's a time when you might be mistreated badly and people around you just watching. you will fight alone, and you probably wouldn't win. but the point is, you keep fighting. that's what Mirae did in that particular scene. she fought back, even though that senior kept pushing her down. maybe not all people will help you, but there will be one or two people who will stand up for you (like kyung seok did) or finally appreciate your courage (like Mirae class friend) and inspired by it.
mirae is quite bad ass in this drama actually. she becomes stronger in each episodes if you watch it. they even intentionally make her more fearless character than webtoon. and the topics the drama have brought up is quite broad and relatable to current issue: beauty standard, misogynist, bullying, recovering self esteem, sexual harrasment, man superiority.....
i still found mi rae quite shy in the drama, less awkward though, and less scary around Kyong Seok. but i like…
i got your point and appreciate it. except this part, " it's an art to convert manga to drama. the Japanese is expert in this kind of thing ." ironically, they are not. hana yori dango, despite the major success, not much people know how far the drama were drifted from original manga. they changed all the crucial plot lines, the ending were made the complete opposite of the manga and become unrealistic. it is just frustrated cause the ending in manga leaves a thoughtfull message for all young girls/woman to live their life with their own dream instead just following other people/man's dream. and it is taiwan (Meteor garden2001) that made hana yori dango story became global phenomenal (where asian drama fever began) that finally Japan consider to made the remake (before they only made a 1995 movie and anime.). and the rest is history, BOF, HanaYoriDango movie, MeteorGarden2018.... again, it is taiwan who brought Itazura na kiss came into international spotlight with a huge success of It Started With A Kiss that Japan again reconsider to made remake after remake with Mischievous Kiss (actress in MK is complete resemble of Ariel Lin in ISWAK. the athat's how good taiwan version is!) Taiwan is still number one when it comes to manga adaption that make others following their path.
in which part the main lead was a bully ? i think you watched it wrong,
hahaha...he's not. kyung seok was the one who walked in the rain, wandering through window (shoujo, i know), and the one who smiled at Mirae at bus stop. the one who called her pig(hulk, actually) appeared in episode 6, still as jerk.
I actually think Mi-rae is less shy in the drama. Anyway, I'm actually loving both versions of the main characters.…
@J100. It's not hypocrisy. Everyone knows Kim Tae Hee is famous actress in korea. they make a rude joke toward the chubby girl's name since the chubby girl who has the same name of the famous actress but in no way resemble her physical. that's why they teased her.
I agree. I just think that Koreans do not know how to handle this sensitive topic because their society has become…
she did stand for herself, like in numerous times. in every episodes we could see Mirae got back at her bullies. but i get what you see as naive part, maybe the one when that creepy senior took her into resting room. it is frustrated indeed, but looking from Mirae's perspective, it's quite understandable. she has self esteem when it comes to man due to her past, and that scene with his senior is probably her very first experiences dealing with sexual harassment. some girls do just stunt when they are in her situation maybe due to sudden shock, especially when the perpetrator is someone that they know in daily basis. it does take a while for her to finally found herself back. as viewer can see, in episode 2, she hit the creepy senior to call her ugly. in episode 3, when both male lead and 2nd lead grabbed her arms, she just pushed them both away and going home alone. in epi 4, she got back at male lead that vented his anger toward her. when the senior bullied her in bathroom, she didn't just stand there but she fought back at him. in eps 5, she run to catch her stalker. in epi 6, she stood to the guy who insulted her in the past after being humiliated by him for a second time. it is unfortunate that you only see Mirae in first episode. if you keep watching it, than you know Mirae is not one damsel in distress that needs male lead to save her. she may looked shy or clueless, but when the moment is right, she fight people at their face. she's awesome.
I agree. I just think that Koreans do not know how to handle this sensitive topic because their society has become…
the story actually trying to explore korean perspective on plastic surgery. contradictory with what you were saying, they far from being shallow here. they interpretation is fair, less judgemental, yet sometime can be brutally honest. regardless how 'common' plastic surgery in korea depicted in media, it turned out it also something that's still considered 'pro and contra' matter over there. this is actually the first drama that try to approach this subject and succeed. viewer are challenged to see plastic surgery in other ways, and watching how young people in korean deal with that issue is quite refreshing.
I have a different perspective. I do think you have some valid points about the execution not being perfect, but…
yeah, i know. it's quite common in asia. they have strong seniority culture over there. not make it okay, though, but understandable if the drama pick up that as part of the plotline.
The plot isn't serious about it because the genre of this story is "romance, comedy" it is supposed to be a light…
"They could show us her try to overcome her insecurite while stuyding, making new firends and falling in love." she did actually.
"there is no need for have such two bed antagonist" soo ah is interesting antagonist i would say. not much villain like her in kdrama. her pettiness comes from her background that yet to be revealed from the show. in fact, she's the type that you can encounter in real life, girl who jealous to other girls, has this stupid competitive feeling around 'beauty girl'. and it's slice of drama enough for me as it explore the story of beauty standard in korean society, misogyny, self love, bullying by words...
plastic surgery is pretty real in korea. as well as senior-junior bullying (it's quite regular in Asia). so, i don't think they exaggerate things in here.
The bullying in this drama is over the top and the cast acts more like immature high schooler than college students…
i laugh when you said "the bullying is over the top and the cast acts more like immature high schooler". really ? since you took reference from BOF, you should know best which one is considering over the top bullying, and which are not. god, bullying is very subtle in this drama and people are not in plain sight bullying her. in fact, while there are groupswho badmouthing her behind her back, but there are also some groups who emphatic and tolerance enough of her situation who defends her in that instance.
"The main lead is the most naive female in the history of k-dramas." she hit man who insulted her, she even made comeback to male lead when he vented his anger to her, she refused man who deliberately grabbed her arms, she stand for herself when the senior harassed her in the bathroom, and to the guy who rejected and insulted her in the past...ehm, which naive part were you talking about ??
"While the two main lead looks like a copy of BOF, one nice and thoughtful while the other is arrogant and bully." there you go, wrong again. the one nice and thoughtful ? no, he's nice but he is also the guy who's into appearances, the superficial type. they clearly show it in first episode. how come you didn't watch it? the other is arrogant and bully ? who? kyong seok??? hah! he's Mi rae's defender since day one, first episode, helping her from creepy senior!! arrogant ??? he doesn't even realize himself that attractive that he needs to ask Mirae if she thinks he is cool.
"Close a classroom in the bathroom at the university and push people around.......please! I will had kick his ass way before that. " who? the senior ? yeah, mi rae, the one you called 'naive' fight him hard in this scene, and kyong seok, the one you called 'arrogant and bully' kicked him in the ass before you do.
nothing ridiculous about this drama. in fact, your ignorance to the story and characters is amazing that i am pretty sure you didn't watch it or maybe don't even get the message at all. it is just sad that you mislead other viewers with your 'understanding' of the scenes, or the characters.
For people watching this, I'm curious, what's the image this story is giving about plastic surgery? Is it kind…
i watched 200 pounds beauty but i completely forget about the story. i think, rather than focusing on plastic surgery, MIIGB is focusing more on exploring beauty perspectives in society . but, to answer your question, they give quite a fair and truthfull image on plastic surgery, and most of it are an eyes opening.
