Its very inconsistent how the FL is portrayed though...we see her ninja style and she leaping across building…
I personally liked it when she fought back when her son-in-law tried to beat her when they were left alone. She was shown to be even stronger than him if she pushed his hand away. Of course later the Prince came with his knife and saved her, but I wouldnt call her weak or defenseless
I feel pity for the SML, I also kind of understand him ..
I pity him as well, and I can sense some goodness left in him, but he keeps doing bad things under the pretense of being under his fathers thumb. Still there's only so much you can do, untill you are beyond redemption. Let's hope he can redeem himself by the end of the drama
They were not all slaves; some came from commoner and middle-class families.
Thank you for this detailed post. It was so helpful!! I didnt know concubines were treated like that. So sad that it happened like that. Thank God we have come a lot of way since then, in our societies. At least a lot of them! What a sad existence these women had.

Thank you so much, so Eun Jo is only a slave because her mother was a slave to begin with and then became a concubine!! Got it!!! I thought for some stupid reason that being a concubine elevated someone's status no matter their origins.
I just started watching this and I have a question, as I am not at all familiar with Korean History. I thought concubines and their children were not as powerful and liable to get much inheritance, but were they really considered slaves? I have watched a lot of K-Dramas and C-Dramas and I hadn't realized that. I know they were probably considered second-rate in the family, but they were slaves? Not even commoners?
I just finished this and I cannot say that I didnt like it. It just felt lacking. Both Hong Xiao and Yang Bing Zuo are such good actors and gorgeous at that, whose acting I have enjoyed on other shows.
The premise was there, a woman whose family was destroyed and was cast out with nothing comes back for revenge. It is a common trope in short dramas. I liked that it was in a modern setting, I like the wardrobe, their style and everything, but imo it was all happening too fast and sometimes out of nowhere that I felt I didnt have the time to process what was happening and what it meant for the progress of the revenge. Also, I think initially they didnt give us enough to go on and understand what was the relationship between FL and ML. I could feel tension but I couldnt really feel if it was because of their passion for each other or just animosity, Later on ok there was sexual tension but I think I needed something more to feel the supposed trust and bond they had with each other. Which is a darned shame because they are both fabulous so I wanted to feel the love vibe. The ending was rushed as well but at least it was happy. I was really sad to see the FL's "adopted" brother die. Thats was so sad, he was a sweetheart. I think with a little more background on their relationship and some cohesion, I would have enjoyed this a lot more, but it fell kinda flat for me!!!
Ok, I just finished this and from the featured reviews, I was convinced I was going to hate it or be disappointed, but that wasnt the case. Was it the best romance K-Drama I have seen, absolutely not, but it wasnt the worst either and it definitely, imho, deserves more than a 5. The premise of the show wasnt anything groundbreaking but the leads played well and I liked their chemistry. Also I have to say I wasnt annoyed by the magic twist.. I mean I have watcihed many shows like that, even C-Dramas (even Moon Lovers¨Scarlet Heart Ryeo) follow this motif. I mean just someone entering the plot/world of a novel, a game or whatever by default it's either magic, or a dream. And it kinda made sense that the heroines just changed places. It has a decent amount of angst, romance and mystery. I enjoyed the twist of the original FL being an unrepentant villain sorta... Thats was original. I dont know if I would watch it again many times, but it was definitely worth a watch. For me it was probably a 7.5
I loved their final interaction as well. And ML starting to show some feelings.. is it the drugs? Were they always…
that is such an awesome theory. I am all for it. Even when he supposedly went berserk and hurt his family, he actually didnt so I think he might have the affliction of Affinity B but maybe to a lesser extent so that he is not actually a sociopath? I dont know but he seemed to have feelings, but there kinda dim...not intense. I cannot wait for him to experience the full intensity of all the feelings there are!!!
I think the whole thing was not thought out well enough. Ok she asked him why he hated her and he didnt reply,…
Haha so true!!! I laughed too, when he believed her that she was looking for candles. The only explanation I came up with, is that he believed her because he WANTED TO believe her, so that is why I am buying that he is somewhat in love with her. As for her, she is certainly not as bright as she thinks she is. Personally, I would have wanted more conflict, more angst and maybe show that he was also good to her sometimes, because only then, would I buy that she has feelings for him..maybe This show and the Mystery By My Name have been disappointing for me. I loved the actors, but the plot left a lot to be desired.
Well, again, her not having a backbone from the beginning because if she really wanted to not be used and threatened,…
I think the whole thing was not thought out well enough. Ok she asked him why he hated her and he didnt reply, she has been working for him for 5 years. Did she really not get the chance to investigated him, find oyt who he is and how he is connected. Amd how can you love someone who makes you do the stuff that he did. I can probably get how he developed a sick crush on her because she has been under his control for so long.. But her? Nope she cant be in love with him apart from some sort of stockholm syndrome?
