""Sunshine Through the Rain" the director of this series is Mao de Shu, a name that is practically synonymous with “quality”............February 24–25, 2026, filming for the domestic scenes had officially wrapped, and the crew moved on to the next phase.
Yang Chaoyue plays a character named Zheng Yu, a junior at the College of Life Sciences at Qingyi University. Her life is devoid of sunshine, filled only with heavy rain. Her father passed away long ago, and her mother lies in a hospital in a vegetative state. To cover her mother’s medical bills and her own tuition, she works multiple jobs a day, pinning all her hopes on winning the “Vitality Award,” the highest-value scholarship. She is both stubborn and fragile, often nibbling on dry bread in secluded corners while quietly shedding tears.
Her rival is Chen Yanzhou, played by Dong Sicheng. A top student who has completely shut himself off from the world following his older brother’s unexpected death. After taking a year off, he returned to school and immediately ranked first in his major—becoming Zheng Yu’s greatest obstacle in her quest for the scholarship. At first, the two were at loggerheads, neither willing to concede to the other. But fate brought them together through repeated collaborative projects, forcing them to confront each other’s most vulnerable sides. Zheng Yu sees Chen Yanzhou staring blankly at his brother’s old notes; Chen Yanzhou catches Zheng Yu silently breaking down in a corner. Two people who have weathered the storm alone for far too long suddenly realize they can share an umbrella.
To portray Zheng Yu authentically, Yang Chaoyue took specialized training in biological laboratory procedures before joining the production.......Director Mao de Shu set the tone for the series as “sun showers”—an image of light suddenly breaking through the gloom of daily life. The series consists of 24 episodes and is produced by (Limon) Ningmeng Pictures, the studio behind *Little Joy* and *30 Before 30*. The confirmed broadcast platforms are Hunan TV and Mango TV, ...In addition to Yang Chaoyue and Dong Sicheng, the cast features young talents like Sun Ning, Li Yuzhen, and Xiao Tianren, as well as seasoned actors such as Yang Tongshu, Zhang Lei, Ding Jiali, and Tian Xiaojie.
But a pressing question remains: when a youth drama is packed with medical debt, family burdens, and psychological trauma, can it still be simply called “sweet”? Or, to put it another way, should the youth dramas we look forward to be a filter on life, or a mirror reflecting it? "
Thank you for your updates always. Director Cattree and STTR team have been so dedicated to providing quality…
I find dir CT's experimentation here cool, bc he's known in China for his eye catching cinematography and ability to create atmosphere. Also, as CT's most depressive drama in the first arc, there is sufficient structure and emotional depth for ww to display his acting capabilities well too. Looking forward to this drama!
