oh, hi, friend! i wouldn’t recommend this drama as your first cdrama, tbh. but if you still feel like checking it out, here’s the gist.
it’s a story based on an ancient chinese legend (painted skin—you can look it up, it’s quite popular, and many dramas were born from it) about a demon fox deceiving people and literally stealing their faces and ripping their hearts out. Identity theft is not a joke, jim. that kind of thing. (our director, guo jingming, has a short film, it’s also called painted skin. i recommend checking it out, it’s quite nice)
the director uses this as inspiration to build his own story. we have a clan of foxes, with the two main girlies lu wuyi and wu wangyan (ju jingyi and chen duling). we also have a clan that worships a dragon god, including ji ling (tian jiarui) and li jie (yan an).
our main protagonist, wu shiguang (joseph zheng), crosses paths with them when they all investigate a mysterious case of hearts being ripped out among the common folk. this eventually leads to a bigger plot, with bigger enemies, and much higher stakes. there are time and space shenanigans, identity fuckery, love, loyalty, and the turbulence of the human heart.
at its core, it’s a story about finding oneself, what it means to be true to yourself, and what humans choose to live for. hope, it cleared some confusion!

it's actually so fun bc they're offering an entire polycule! ji ling x li jie, ji ling x yuan wuhuo, ji ling x long shen, ji jie x yuan wuhuo, yuan xizai x yuan wuhuo, yuan wuhuo x long shen. lishen is a very very pretty ship name btw. i miss them i miss them i miss them ☹️
