Finally got my hands on the script, bc I’m impatient like that, and wanted to share my happiness about the glory of Ji Ling and Li Jie (and all the characters they’re playing that in one way or another awfully entangled together) with those who might be curious too. I’m really vague about it so I don’t think spoiler tag is required. Anyways, truly THE couple. Everyone was so shocked when Yan An in his goodbye letter referred to Ruirui’s character as his lover, but I guess I get it now. Very cute, very delicious, very angsty, and so umami vinegary at times. Seconds away from kissing each other, truly 🥺 Even though xiao si’s script often gets changed throughout the filming and postproduction, it was so fun to match the scenes we have seen with the words and voices of the characters. Hopefully nothing gets edited out. Besides, Li Lun and Zhuo Yichen were so different on paper (not in a good way). Yan An and Ruirui managed to make them so hella special and sensual and hopeful and everything good in this world, I have only faith in our awesome, cute actors to make Li Jie and Ji Ling even more NGH.

as i said before, i don't think it's going to be bl or gl, it's going to be a classic gjm drama. there's no gl or bl in cdrama world anymore. i also think it's kind of funny you think romance between wen xiao and zhao yuanzhou wasn't well established. they were my favourite couple on the show. their romance was fulfilling, beautiful, of value, and the driving force of both of their character developments. no moments between zhuo yichen and zhao yuanzhou could ever change that. also interesting that you mention shangjue and shangguan qian, when fof made a parody of their couple, making fun of it, literally in the first episode of fof. what im getting is, as you said, people are mean and angry and threatened simply bc of the possibility of people breaking "the main ship", which should not be an issue if you're sure it's a pure straight romance. if they're insecure about their ship, don't make it other people's problem, leaving weird comments with homophobic undertones. i wish people watched what they're saying, reflected on their phrasing, and realised how they come off.

fof is not the first drama. there's a lot of reason to imply shippy moments between ji ling and li jie. gjm is notoriously known for gayness in his shows and movies. even his short, painted skin that is based on the same story vos is based on, is hella homoerotic. people shipped gong yuanzhi and gong shangjue like crazy too, still do. many people watch his dramas for this reason, and many people will watch vos for ji ling and li jie only. it's alright. no need for people to be weird about it when they're happy to see their ship sail.
