What about her father's case? Yeah, they reopened it, but we didn't get to see the re-trial? Hm... I think the…
I would have terrible second lead syndrome if the prosecutor was the ML. I think it wouldn't be a romance then because the lawyer and the prosecutor has to win against each other. Well, unless the prosecutor drops the case midway to help the FL.
Not saying it's a bad idea, but we already have shows where the celebrity/idol was the 2nd lead (Love in Contract, Her Private Life) so I appreciated the idol being the ML this time.
Anyways, I also agree I would have liked to see FL's father's case being dealt with in detail. Think we could get a season 2 with that plotline? lol
Completely agree, so yeah the crazy fans are the ones that really protect him lol It was a complete turnaround…
The sasaengs were about to get punished for the attempted murder by sabotaging Sena's car, but Raik let it go because he thought it could escalate if he charged them. I was mad at first but if I were the sasaengs, I definitely would have been grateful that the idol I stalked didn't put me in prison.
It shows that Raik's kindness actually helped them to change and become better people.
Same with the prosecutor, who eventually turned a new leaf. I think Jaehee earnestly asking him to uncover the truth, instead of just blaming on Raik, as well as Sena, the girl he bullied, who should actually be cursing him out for still trying to indict Raik despite evidence pointing towards another person, gently spoke to him on a personal level that of an ex-classmate, that he doesn't need to be like his father.
I don't know, it seems idealistic, but I do believe one act of kindness can really change people sometimes. So I personally thought their redemption was earned.
I mean, if after that attempted murder, and those sasaengs still behaved like shit, yes Raik should charge them. But after sabotaging Sena's car, the sasaengs were finally silent. They probably had a lot to reflect on, especially seeing news that Raik was cleared of charges after all.
I loved this series. Never got bored during any of the episodes. One thing I wanted to discuss with others who…
Well, in real life, Jung Kyung Ho was Girls' Generation's fan (apparently the only idol songs he knows are from Girls' Generation, in his recent drama, the staff had to teach him newer idol songs for the scene in Pro Bono) and Sooyoung was his bias. Now they've dated for 14 years.
I think as long as the fan can see beyond the celebrity persona, it's not a bad idea.
all done and dusted but um, when will jae hee apologize? like fine dude, you went through a near damn death experience…
I was also hoping for an apology from Jaehee, he was really antagonistic towards Raik. The apology scene came from Youngbin instead, when Jaehee was the one who should have apologized more. I get that he said he can't see Jaehee becoz of the investigation but, maybe showing us a flashback of how they decided to continue Gold Boys and apologies would have been nice.
So:It's been a while since I watched a Korean drama.I started watching them quite early (2010) and then somehow…
Initially it was supposed to be liking him as a person. Raik separated his idol persona from himself. But then Sena realized, him as a person also loved creating music.
Remember she had told him, yes she liked him as Raik of Gold Boys but the person she's defending is the human Do Raik? I believe her, becoz those two personas really felt different in her perspective at the time. Gold Boys Raik was like an angel, glamorous, smiley. Meanwhile human Do Raik was always angry, frustrating, threw tantrums, but eventually she saw his kindness.
If Raik wanted someone to like his human self, he would have not been upset at Sena for saying that. Instead, he was STILL upset. He says "it's not enough." He was already falling for her, but he was upset that she didn't think of him as the same person. Which means despite what Raik says, him as a singer and him as a regular guy, are both the same people. When Sena says they're different, he (probably doesn't realize it) gets understandably upset.
I have always said, that after Sena had to hide her fangirling identity, she seemed less happy. Like she lost a big part of her identity. Sure, she was happy spending time with Raik, she was happy after he confessed his feelings but it wasn't quite the same kind of happiness being a fangirl.
So, returning as a fangirl is a good happy ending for her. This show's message has always been about wanting someone to see you for your true self. Sena has time and time again, whether she realized it or not, eventually fell in love with the man that had MANY flaws, not the idealized version of him in her head.
In ep 9 she told him she likes all of him, so she finally realized she doesn't separate his idol version and his real self. because he has always been honest, even as an idol (hence why he was the one with attitude controversy).
That's why in the final episode, you can see Raik embracing the fangirl side of Sena (and indulging her interest), who IS her true self. Even if her bf is the idol, she doesn't need to change who she is if that made her happy in the past. Rather, she has evolved.
Now if Raik said he didn't wanna be a singer anymore coz it doesn't make him happy, and Sena still encouraged him to sing, then maybe she liked him as a star more. But that's not the case, Raik only said he was afraid to face fans, but not that he hated singing. So Sena tells him, she also likes the Raik on stage.
Ignoring him to buy merch...well to me I feel like it's possible. Fangirling is her hobby, doesn't matter that one part of her hobby ended up being her boyfriend. She also loves the experience of being a fan, earning it with effort so it feels much more rewarding. It's like waiting in queue for over an hour to ride something, and it ends up being the best feeling, compared to getting VIP passes and cutting in line, straight to riding. Waiting in queue strangely made the ride more exciting and memorable.
Plus she was with him the whole night! I would also break away from him to buy limited goods (if I had the money).
the most unrealistic thing in the drama is se na turning down free merch and vip concert tickets!! i’m a kpop…
I think that sena loves the fan experience almost as much as she loves raik. she didn't seem to be able to get concert tickets before, so it must feel more rewarding getting it herself.
it's like the process of waiting in queue for a rollercoaster ride makes the anticipation build and feel more rewarding, than getting vip tickets and being able to cut the line.
but i'm sure if she didn't manage to get the tickets, then she would have given up and take up on raik's offer lol
Forgettable ! Those love story was pretty rubbish and unconvincing. They literally had no chemistry . Leave them…
crazy how chemistry is so subjective. i thought her male friend was clearly like family to her. felt too one-sided. with the ML i started seeing some romantic chemistry around ep 4, before that they were good as lawyer/client. but opinions~
Yes if you like light dramas for comfort or character-driven dramas, it's worth the watch. If you have high expectations on intelligent writing regarding the mystery/law aspect, then it's not recommended.
Another problem I had is that is felt very superficial and not realistic enough, the investigation, the romance,…
Same2! Agreed. I think this show would be good to recommend binge watching. If you spent 6 weeks watching ongoing, you'll definitely notice the thin murder plot and the reveal wasn't that surprising especially with the illogical initial investigation. With her sloppy murder she should have been caught in at least a week lol
But I would recommend binge watching so you don't waste time making theories abt the killer 😂
I didn't think that they would bring up the possibility of retrial bcoz the drama spent 9 eps focused on Raik's case, so when ep 10 implied Sena actually had ambitions to apply for a retrial, I was thrown in for a loop. Was the retrial supposed to be part of the bigger plot? Because they only had 2 eps left and the killer still wasn't revealed yet. 1 ep for the killer reveal and 1 ep for the retrial seemed rushed. The last episode was good to close character arcs. If they wanted the retrial to be a big focus, it should have been done around ep 7, and have Raik's case settled in ep 6.
But if they had to deal with 2 big defense plots in 12 eps, I don't think the romance would have any room to develop, at best just subtle hints (which I probably would have been obsessed with too, I'm a sucker for potential romance the most)
Initially I wanted to see a cool trial scene but I was surprised by the co-habitating plotline. I didn't think it was possible for her to go to trial for Raik anymore coz of ethical reasons lol unless ppl never found out abt them living together.
Nooo, why they left Se Na’s father’s case plot just hanging like that. I want to see her fight for her father…
I think that being approved for a retrial is good enough, because even that is hard. I was not expecting Sena's past to be brought back. if they were gonna bring it back, should have Raik's case settled in 6 eps, and the remaining half for Sena's. But this was always Sena focusing on Raik's case, so when the sudden possibility Sena was gonna apply for a retrial, I saw that it was just a subplot that was meant for her character on her way to get closure. Retrials take a long time doesn't it?
This wasn't really a revenge story so I can see why we didn't get all the way to the end of seeing the prosecutor who corrupted the case to blame her dad's downfall. If we did, it would have seem rushed, coz taking down someone like that couldn't happen in one episode.
PLUS, what if that hanging case leaves some story for season 2? hahaha i will accept anything as long as I can see Raik x Sena again
Another problem I had is that is felt very superficial and not realistic enough, the investigation, the romance,…
I can understand your POV. I personally got into the romance, which started out with little moments, and their healthy communication was nice. imo it suited my taste of a slow burn.
I think it was good they didn't need a trial to prove his innocence. (I'm sure Sena would be attacked for defending her client that is her boyfriend ). Isn't it better for a lawyer not to have to go to trial, and just makes sure to show evidence that they got the wrong guy? Especially since their evidence was all weak anyways. Now, if they had some kind of incriminating evidence, then I would have liked to see the trial and see Sena take out the prosecutor.
About the ML retiring. I understand why he didn't retire. He still loved singing, especially seeing the impact his music had on fans, Sena in particular. He just got traumatized becoz his fans "love" became a burden that stopped him from being his true self. Previously having to hide having a girlfriend, breaking up the messiest way but forced to be all smiley on stage. So he tells Sena, its not that he hates singing, he's just scared to face his fans again. If that's the case, then he should face his fears. If he didn't like singing anymore, and it didn't make him happy. Sena would have encouraged him to retire. Because time and time again, she has proven she is a fan who just wants her fave to be happy, no matter where they are.
Overall I think it excelled best when it was diving into the idol industry, and the relationship between idols and fans, the good and the bad.
But I was unexpectedly charmed by the romance even tho initially I was like, hm they look good as just lawyer who cares for her client. Came for the murder plot, stayed for the characters' romance and comforting convos.
Honestly I'm already obsessed despite this show having potential in the beginning and could have been objectively way better, but ended up mid if you're critical. I think if the murder plot was tight with the romance as slow burn as it is, it might have been way better for most people.
So if the actors got a better script than this, I probably wouldn't have been able to move on lol
Can someone tell me what is the endearing name they have for Se Na the lawyer? I heard how they say it throughout…
It's "Maeng-byeon." Literally Attorney Maeng. Not sure why he couldn't call her by her first name in the last episode huhu I get that it's almost like a cute nickname but still
there were many unanswered questions during the last episode. What happened with the re-trial? Are we never gonna…
realistically, romantic partners or ppl close to the celebrity on stage also just sits at a seat like any other concert viewer. i think it was nice that it showed, just becoz she became his girlfriend, doesn't mean she should let go of the fan experience that made her happy and got her through tough times.
thats what i saiiiddd >< there must be finger print everywhere why police dont find any lmao she literally…
i have to tell myself that her father covered up the investigation so the police were literally forced to be incompetent or sth. becoz it was mentioned that her father had covered up her being interrogated for 6 hours initially. otherwise there's no way basic investigation skills went out the window
To those who are left confused by her father's retrial-Sena proved in court that the prime witness who spoke against…
if i was honest i didn't think sena's past would ever be brought up again coz she didn't seem like she was planning a retrial for her father. i thought the statute of limitations were up or sth. until ep 10 where she explains she just delayed it. so it really was just a subplot for her closure.
Not saying it's a bad idea, but we already have shows where the celebrity/idol was the 2nd lead (Love in Contract, Her Private Life) so I appreciated the idol being the ML this time.

but it's true that the final performance you can't hear it. Apparently the fanchant is
"Universe best, Do Raik,
"Smiling Angel, Kang Woosung
"Shining, Lee Youngbin"
"Heartbreaker Choi Jaehee"
"I love you Gold Boys"
But the final performance they cut out the long fanchant in the intro and just kept I love you Gold Boys rip
