Just finished rewatching this. Whenever i'm in the mood for pure enemies to lovers, I always come back to this drama lmao but man, this drama suffered the "5 minutes of happy ending" in the last episode too lol but I'm not too mad about it, because despair looks good on the leads?? Like the chemistry was best when they hated each other, and when they had to struggle to contain their love for each other too lmao

True I agree! I think one more episode of showing Sena in full fangirl mode for the whole group and getting to know the other members outside of them being related to her client would have been fun. But Idol I is already criticised for feeding delulu, if they showed too much of her being all chummy with the group, it might be even worse. BUT then it would have been a full blown idol drama if Sena had developed friendships with other members too. (Like, Let Me Be Your Knight).

I think the writer/director didn't want to be carried away by stuff like that. But this is why Idol I should have gotten 16 eps. Shows like Lovely Runner benefited so much from 16 eps.

He doesn't look 37, he looks 30 like the character he's playing.

And even if he did look 37, most 10+ veteran idols are around that age anyways, including Sooyoung. Even Kim Jaejoong is 40 years old, and he debuted in 2003.

You made me realize Sooyoung's roles just get better for me so far. Seo Dan ah was my fave, was able to finish Run On for her, then Jin hee, now Maeng Sena tops them all 😂 (there are misses tho, Geum Ju was very Sooyoung-like but I didn't finish the show after they got together lol, her brief role in Move to Heaven tho was so good actually Sena almost reminds me of her there. But she wasn't around long enough, I still want that Season 2. I didn't finish If You Wish Upon Me either but even that role felt very Sooyoung-like.

Idk I just really love the restraint Sena pulls off. It's actually so admirable. Any other regular fangirl it would have just been boring (And apparently, I read an interview where Sooyoung has the same opinion! I hope she knows I see the vision). She doesn't feel theatrical, like some characters were meant to be written and can only exist as fictional characters to admire because they rarely exist in real life. Supernatural characters are obvious examples for instance, like Kang Bitna from The Judge from Hell. Love her but I also know she doesn't exist, she can't so she's allowed to girlboss every 10 seconds and that gets fans obsessed.

But Sena has a unique charm in the sense she's relatable (for fangirls, for being competent at her job and still makes time for hobbies, and keeping the fangirling a secret)

Aww yes flower of evil and judge from hell is a good one. but I just realised I don't watch a lot of crime romance even tho ideally I like the genre. I couldn't finish Vincenzo past ep 3 and not a big fan of seo yea ji to watch lawless lawyer.

I guess with crime dramas, I tend to lean to the subtle (or non-existent) romance instead, like stranger/secret forest, OH and My Name (it's not subtle, actual romance but it's just a subplot which I like).

She has posters of the full group, of Raik & Woosung, and even marvelled at the sight of Jaehee and Youngbin at first sight before switching to professional mode. I'm sure she isn't a solo stan. Solo stans can come off very proud of stanning one bias only, and they rarely include themselves in the group fandom name. meanwhile Sena has proudly called herself a Goldy, a Gold Boys fan and her bias is Raik.

I would have liked to see her interactions with the other members but then it would have started to feel less professional of her. If not for the case, she shouldn't go out of her way to interact with the other members. Raik is a given since he lives at her house. But if he didn't, I'm sure Sena would have only interacted with him professionally too (until Raik finds ways to overstep those boundaries).

However, Sena interacting with the other Gold Boys members after dating Raik in that last episode is what should have been shown. Or their reactions to Raik liking his lawyer lol (if they found out before the case was settled, Jaehee probably would have a problem with it, but if it was after the killer was revealed, I think Jaehee would be their no. 1 supporter considering his happy "Raik is in love-love mode" reaction.

It was over the top but there are seriously fans like that...and it's not like that behaviour was normalized, her friend calls her out on it, saying ofc a grown man has dated before, even saying it was crazy he was saying he'll only love his fans and not date. Idol I doesnt just address obvious toxic behavior like sasaengs, but toxic behavior that can come from "real fans" as well (and the parasocial-enabling behavior some idols do to be loved)

I'm just glad that was a blunder from 3 years prior. In the present timeline, she has never acted irrationally ever since finding out the rumored gf was legit.

Cheeky roles? and I've only seen Kim Jaeyoung in heavier roles like The Judge from Hell, 100 days my prince and Reflection of You lol (currently watching Love In Contract and No Breathing) so I thought Idol I was the best of both coz Kim Jaeyoung had heavy scenes and cheeky ones (ep 10 and 12 at least) here.

Sena is an absolute baddie though?? Besides that one scene against the prosecutor (when he mentions her dad) she always had the last word against everyone in and out of court. I like that she doesn't need to girlboss every scene just to show she's a baddie. A subtle one but a baddie nonetheless.

If ur looking for a crime/romance trope this isn't it. I suppose I was expecting something like that too but from ep 5 it was clear their romance was going for the healing/human aspect, heavier on trust and subtlety. the only full blown romantic episodes were ep 10 and 12.

I grew into it tho, too romantic and I would have gotten a bit bored when the couple gets together but that's just me

Most of the criticism on this show I've seen is pretty valid because it all comes down to personal taste, but calling the FL an akgae isn't even an opinion anymore. It's a straight up lie.

really?? this is one of the few dramas with Sooyoung I managed to finish. The others being Run On, and Not Others. The plot itself is pretty thin, it's more character-driven so if you don't care for the characters, chances are you won't feel like continuing the story,

lmaooo i actually hoped she would reject him! i love their romance but i totally understood why she would have to think about it. she had just let go of her fan love a few eps ago, especially since he was so hurt about it, so ofc she's a lil' confused now he's suddenly wanting her to like him for real. i'm sure she wasn't sure whether she was still putting him on a pedestal or if she liked him as just a regular guy.

i think the first 3 episodes were strong because the romance aspect hadn't settled in yet so you get to see the details on the industry + thriller. personally before that last scene in episode 4, I was totally okay if there wasn't romance.

but then the ML started smiling for the first time since his best friend's death because he saw her, and he even got jealous and i thought that was cute sooo yea i eventually became onboard with the romance lol

i think Idol I could be a good foundation for future dramas to go deeper than the usual issues portrayed with idol-centric dramas. there's a webnovel called "debut or die" which is about idols in a survival show, and it doesn't have romance.

just because he did nothing wrong does not mean his feelings are entitled to a woman who has never felt the same way

no for real, i've only ever really liked female artists/actresses but something about kim jae yeong as do raik makes me wanna stan now. too bad his songs are just from a drama, i'm still streaming gold boys/raik songs and would love to hear him release more songs!

i'm so sorry you got spoiled! some people really have no ethics being online. i personally tried hard to watch as quick as possible (besides not being patient coz the drama had me hooked) coz i didn't want to accidentally get spoiled

i'm pretty biased about the show, but i think 8.1 is fair. it could have been way better if the murder plot was more logical, if it had more episodes that explored what happened right after he was cleared of murder instead of jumping into 1 year in the last episode, maybe sena not accepting raik's feelings until after the case is settled, among other things.

it could have been THE perfect romance/slice of life/food drama if not for the sudden return of the ex! should have been 1 episode max
