to be honest. i really did not know what was happening in this movie, like they kinda just throw you at a point that feels like it's in the middle of the story and reveal stuff later... but i was confused as hell for most of it 😭 HOWEVER, i really liked the shots in this... i loved the cinematography, colour-grading and the soundtracks... and the fighting choreography was also pretty good!? definitely not what i expected! visually, this was pleasing to my eyes (i hear the sunspot director, figures!) that i don't even mind i didn't know what was going on half the time. the vibes were good enough for me, what can i say... and madoka was super cute, i was really charmed by aloha's acting and expressions!!

shiono is so cute. throughout the entire first half i was just like wow he is so in love and so cute. i'm always moved by how saito ryu delivers his lines... the last few bits of the episode seriously got me... he's winding up to be such a special character in my heart. takoi i need you to lock in like badly
this was so cute. both the roles of akira and kanata were done pretty well... i'm familiar with haruhi iuchi from another work and he was quite good at playing the role of the reliable, refreshing main character who was involved with Men, so i was looking forward to his acting here and he did... beyond my expectations...!!!! seriously so cute. kanata was everything i would've wanted and more.
i'll just address this here: im familiar with the original work so i knew what to expect but yeah the grooming part is just... brushed over... perhaps even normalized or treated as something necessary? 😭 i think for the characters in-verse it makes sense to them, to just acknowledge that it was a "needed time" for akira to heal from his wounds. but in the real world/to the viewers. that was just straight up grooming and akira acknowledges that everything he likes and does and says were all from kanda 😭 and in the original work, they very much did do those explicit scenes. i will say i think the role of kanda was done well, as the "reliable" adult figure who clearly knows he's doing something unethical. but like goddamn i hope at the very least he never shows up in their lives again. can he please be normal. i'm also quite biased since i really liked inoue sora from eien no kinou. sorry. just in case it needs to be said: i enjoyed his acting but don't condone the acts of the character himself.
the pacing of this drama was super well done... i just don't know how they did it, but i was watching the first episode like "wow this is so good" and i hovered over the player and it was only 15 minutes into the episode, and i thought it had already been 30 minutes!!! the atmosphere between akira and kanata were beautiful... a lot of events happened but they chose to highlight the most significant relevant parts during it, and seamlessly stitched them together. seriously, for me, the pacing and execution was perfect. somehow they managed to make each scene feel drawn-out but perfectly natural. and also cram it into 25 minutes without me thinking we were running a marathon to cram everything in. seriously how did the director & screenwriter do that.
i ran out of things to say off the top of my head, but again i really enjoyed it and kanata was definitely my highlight. haruhi iuchi i hope you can act in a melancholic BL again or i'll just re-watch boonboomger for redblue. i hope kanata and akira are happy 4eva. it moved me. thanks for coming to my BL tedtalk.

i liked kim yoonsik's acting in this quite a bit, but everything else was... well... (scratching head). i didn't hate watching it but i wouldn't call it good either... i wasn't particularly interested by ep 1, but ep 2 left me bewildered so i just ended up finishing it. it was more in the sense of "why did he do that. what is he doing. bro." i probably liked eps 8-9 the most, they had the most "emotional" impact to me and made sense... but i really don't think i can give the show much credit. ysure, the sex chemistry was kind of crazy, like taeseon was acting like he was going to eat chaeha whole but i just don't know. that alone does not/will not ever save or sink a drama for me, personally, it's just nice if it's done well i guess...
honestly: the execution of the plot and the romance did not particularly move me. and everytime they would fool around on the job i would just be like 💭 can they please focus on the task at hand if they are always talking about finding the truth and bringing justice to criminals... i really couldn't put away my suspension of disbelief while watching this drama, so both the thriller aspect and their road to intimacy fell flat for me. as a fan of both thriller / bls perhaps i had too high standards, even though i tried to come in with no expectations... but man even the thriller aspect just had me predicting everything by ep 3 and going "ok...? thats it...?" by the time it was wrapped up. and then the slapped on ai-generated beach happy ending...? 😭 the scene there was fine but bruh... 👎
i did enjoy the concept of the characters but i guess... i couldn't truly understand how and why they fell in love, but i just ended up going along with it. and all of these murders being because of 1 Messy couple had me un-impressed to put it lightly. i did like ju taeseon a lot and the actors for jaeyeon/haneul did their roles well! haneul was pretty easy to point out as a suspicious character when he stepped in, but i enjoyed both his "facade" and his true nature. as for jaeyeon, she played the role of a crazy woman blinded by love and driven by power quite well. i've been skirting around saying it but chaeha's portrayal was like plain bread to me. sorry.
final verdict: well, ok, sure. ju taeseon/kim yoonsik lowkey carried. i hope they're happy or miserable forever as they put it. it was simply ok.
i cried a lot by the end. i really like these type of stories. i'm the kind of guy who likes unhappy "failed" relationships that don't work out so this was really up my alley... they didn't work out, and they acknowledged that there's nothing that could've been done about it, but they certainly loved each other just as any normal couple would've done.
the dual pov/understanding of both yuma and itsuki and why they were incompatible was really good. and in-turn it makes you understand why they got along, but also why they broke up to begin with... the acting was really good on those subtleties. sato kanichiro did a great job on itsuki in this regard. but in the end the paths they wanted were just too different and their own ideals, and core values just didn't align... because it's like a relationship that relied on itsuki's patience and willingness to see his partner happy until he couldn't take it anymore, and yuma who desired his ideal life/happiness with his partner until it would suffocate the both of them... but it's not like either of them were in the wrong. <- i really, really love these kind of sentiments. itsuki's comments throughout the show like the fishtank, the capsule toy, and the parting sentiment of "if you don't want to throw it away, then that means you still need it, right?" was so... arrrrrgh. i really liked itsuki's character a lot. the fact was that their relationship was one where they couldn't be open with each other as much as they thought... where one person is concerned with solidifying and justifying their existence in the world, while the other was fine with living as they are without recognition from anyone.
i think what this work manages to highlight at the end is that what started off as a focus point of minorities, turned into something that would happen to anyone, because at the end of the day all the characters here wanted to exist as Themselves and recognized as such. #theyrejustpeople. it was a nice watch... and maybe it helped i really did view it with the expectations of a documentary, rather than a drama. the first episode was quite good at setting the mood in this way.
although i would've like to see a story where they ended up together again, especially with their lingering feelings... i'm sure like yuma said, they would've ended up breaking again, and itsuki would continue feeling like a fish with his stomach bare. i got exactly what i asked for, which was a couple that didn't work out and know they wouldn't, but holding on for a bit longer because they wanted to make it work. they still loved each other even after. :teary-eyed: i liked it...
started watching because i really like someya toshiyuki... but was really surprised by how much i liked the plot and yagio. definitely contemplating purchasing a ticket to the stageplay livestream!
ep 10... not going to lie, i felt a bit maidenly. i was covering my mouth the whole time for the first 10 minutes and going "goodness gracious" at every one of minase's lines. normally, i use jpn subtitles to help me learn, but i was so locked in that i turned them off entirely. though they were just conversing normally, it felt so intimate, and their relationship so tender, that it felt like i was intruding. there's so much that happened, but i really, really enjoyed that hirukawa pursued film and made a movie out of minase's letter. my goodnesss.
i'm familiar with minase's actor since i'm a tokufan that watched gotchard, and he's improvedso much! he has really eye-catching expressions (and eyes,) and i feel like he portrayed the subtleties and sensitivities of minase's personality really well. great job and happy 20th birthday to him btw. for hirukawa's actor, let's just say he made my stomach twist and turn every episode and leave it at that (this is very positive. kenshin was crazy good.)
i binge-read the manhwa while waiting for the last episode and wow, the directors... really took the sea/ship bits and ran with it LMAO! i'm not complaining... they made a lot of changes in terms of adjusting the plot/theme, but i have to say that the drama version definitely resonated with me more. i commented before that it had the screenwriter/director for hidamari ga kikoeru, and kimi to nara koi! both of which had cinematography and writing that really appealed to me. they honed in on all the bits i liked from those two dramas visually and increased it by tenfold. combined with the on-going theme of being swept away in the seas, miseinen did great on conveying the loneliness, melancholy, nostalgia and yearning from both characters. it was a great watch from start to finish, and i was left with a warm feeling from the bottom of heart. thank you for the 3 months, miseinen!
and this concludes my usual long-winded thoughts after i finish something that touched me. sorry if you've seen me before. i fell into the trap of watching bls weekly for the 3rd time in a row. you might see me again next week.
peeking at the credits, like, oh... of course. hidamari ga kikoeru and kimi to nara koi... two BL series where i really, really liked the directing and cinematography... miseinen you were destined to be peak for me
beautiful cinematography and colour-grading. i'm a little floored. the camera-directing is great... the purposeful framing in the episode of them heading different paths to go home, the dutch angle used in episode 4? 5? on hirukawa in his room and there's a lot of creative usage of camera positioning. the pacing & writing of the series and the camera direction work in perfect harmony. there's close, intimate shots that make you feel like you're seeing hirukawa from minase's perspective and vice-versa. it's purposeful and intentional and makes it easy for the viewer to get immersed into the atmosphere. mentioning the colour-grading again but there is seriously some beautiful night-time scenes and beautiful blues/cool colours used that give a strong sense of nostalgia and melancholy, which makes sense since it's largely from minase's perspective! geeking out over the artistic direction but yeah the BL made me feel something too i guess

i think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion/interpretation, since that's just how media is consumed and it's impossible for everyone to share the same view on it. i agree with you completely that if viewers focus on the romantic aspect, then she can be seen as a barrier barring them, but as you said, they do have their own issues that needed to be worked out as well. uhmmm i'm losing track of what i wanted to say with this reply actually... i really like her a lot for all the reasons you listed and that she just feels real with it. also that i personally like 'flawed' characters who are unable to be honest... i just 100% agree with everything you said and wanted to say ty for your post ^__^!!
hidamari final thoughts. it is very long. i really love the glimpse of taichi and maya's dynamic as bickering siblings, as well as the coworkers at sig-n... and taichi's former boss coming to visit was cute! the ending was relatively 'safe' and didn't really wow me, but i still liked it a lot. it wasn't an extremely emotional ending but a satisfactory one that leaves me, still, feeling pretty positive about the series. like, the last half of the episode got me to turn off subtitles (i can understand jpn to a degree, just choose to read) and lock-in. i can feel that they did rush it a lot though, because of time constraints... T__T
i like thinking of the ending as the slow build-up over time of missing each other, wanting to reach out to each other but being hesitant to take the first step — and when they finally meet, it's an explosion of all the feelings they've been bottling up. seriously, motoki is such a good actor and seeing his facial expressions throughout the episode had me really feeling and seeing all of kouhei's emotions flash across his face. i wish we could've had another episode just to really build on taichi's slow thought process and realization for it to be lasting... but it also feels extremely taichi-like for everything to hit him like a truck at once. kobayashi was great all around, from taichi being a cute junior at work, to him lying on the ground and finally realizing his feelings. they were really great picks for the two leads... i'm happy i got to experience their acting. also the credits scene was so cute...

maya i love you forever. i love when characters are flawed and troubled and are circumstances of their surroundings and she was just scared of being pitied and seen as unequal which is why she turned out like that. she never had someone to tell her it was okay and that she was doing enough like taichi did. i really love her... don't come replying to me about how you hate her btw i won't agree with your opinion but i'll respect it.
