ito kentaro had a nerve to say that japan has peace today thanks to kamikaze. kamikaze apologia and history revisionism is sure evolving. i heard this movie is not that problematic, but the trend of marketing whitewashed ww2 stories to young audience is concerning
people have a tendency to think that because they are foreigners , the japanese or any other ethnicity of people…
first of all, it's a very recent tendency of tbs dramas particularly (i loved tbs dramas dearly until recent). second, just look at wall of text some weirdo wrote under my comment, proving my point
I'm tired of the whole "autistic=genius" trope but aside from that, the first episode was pretty enjoyable and…
that's why boku no aruku michi is so dear to me. stories stories like this are still rare. +this drama clearly is trying to simulate Extraordinary Attorney Woo. when she had that poster with human emotions--the inspiration is obvious
a big mystery why a movie where a chinese character "joked" about japan's imperialism doesn't get a flack from international community. japanese did unthinkable things in china during occupation, and it was glossed over like that? this movie is a cynical spit in the face to all victims of japanese imperialism
i watched this drama long ago, so my memory is blurry. it left an impression that it was made for a shock value…
+ i want to add: keep in mind that the guy who played arashi, was not only was caught sexually harassing and almost raping girl(s), but also he, with his bandmate and costar( he played ushio), later badmouthed this drama and characters they played. calling them disgusting and freaky. actors still could be nasty homophobes, even after accepting and playing such demanding & explicitly queer roles
i watched this drama long ago, so my memory is blurry. it left an impression that it was made for a shock value by straight men, and frankly, had many problematic aspects. but it's a curious and valuable time-capsule nonetheless. just it should be taken seriously imo. good luck to the subbers!! gamba!!(・ω・)ノ

It's also been a long time since they had a female protagonist. The height of the Heian era is also rarely covered…
Thank you for such comprehensive answer! I think it's possible to popularize earlier periods. They seem so interesting! Jidaigeki genre needs a shake up. NHK desperately needs to be even more risky and pick right directors and scripts. Just look how old people eat up Daifugou Doushin
idk why you expect historical accuracy from a drama...
i agree that it's not a good drama. but complaining about historical accuracy is still weird. aren't some taiga are based on novels? like some liberties should be expected
