It was fine as a movie on its own, but the problem is that the viewers didn't go looking for that, but for a movie that makes the 2d world they have been seeing come to life. The whole hate on this comes from the fact that it was soooo loosely based on the original work that it just lost the whole essence of the manga. They changed the relationships waaay too much and cut out the character building that made people like the manga. And wtf is with this Shikishima guy? So, yeah, can understand the low ratings

I suffered from a slight second lead syndrome there T^T... Nonetheless I think they did a good job adapting it to a 2 hour movie

This movie was really intense, so many plot twists. Kept me at the edge of my seat. Gonna have to watch the original now
