Ep16 That was really hard to watch :'( In tears. Even though the mother-in-law is hated immensely, it pulled at my heart when she begged Jin Hee to save him. On a lighter note... I love that it was CHIEF who was fantasizing >_< Also, that punch! (I was glad to see Chang Min angry too, that doctor is so annoying!)
Does anyone know the historical facts on this drama?
@Mary28 Her being vengeful does make sense and I totally got that evil vibe too. Hmm, Tanasili did have a son in real life but he died as a child. So I think they made that twist on their own.

Your review made me want to start KDSBH. I was staying away from it because of the Ep count but now I feel I have to start it >_< You made it sound amazing!
Even with the change in the timeslot, Dramafever is saying that subs will be at mondays ):
They haven't updated that page since it started airing. It still says 16 Eps. A member on DF said they messaged DF about the time change and DF replied they would post within 24 Hrs of the air date... If they're going to be a monopoly it would be nice if they had the staff to back it up >_<

I was just mentioning what's accepted as actual history in my previous comments and that last comment... That's why I was confused with your comment about her reasons for revenge >_< The writers aren't following history, they said so themselves, so in a way it's kind of fiction. Which @Raincat brought up in another comment.

@JustJackieB True, and many Koreans see her that way (as a murderous villain). I understand the reasons for her hatred. Totally get it. I can't even imagine the pain she felt, discovering her father and then losing him to someone you trusted. Losing your baby b/c of a man that was in your father's command. And having to live beside the man that murdered your mother in cold blood... It's unimaginable. But the way they convey her anger is kind of jarring and abrupt for me.
In historical documents it says she came from a very wealthy family who worked under the King. Her Grandfather was a son-in-law of a Goryeo King. I was just trying to summarize what the general accepted history was.
But @kreps is right. 'History is written by the victors.'
And were you replying to another one of my comments? (Sry, just confused >_<)
(Nxt Wks Preview)My mouth dropped at the last scene of Chief and Jin Hee... Even if it doesn't happen.
I still love Chang Min... And he always looks like a kicked puppy now >_< But Chief's awkwardness around Jin Hee wins me every time. And baby Gook's hair! :D I'm still rooting for Chang Min and Jin Hee though(after serious self-reflection)... But Chief will always be in my heart <3
So a lot of people also think that the story may go downhill from now. El T (yes that's what I call him in my…
@Raincat That is true. I focused on what was emphasized on Korean sites. It feels like another JOJ and I dropped that >_< Joo Jin Mo said in an interview that this wasn't a documentary but a drama. And because there was such an uproar in Korea about the depiction of the story, I wrongly assumed it was going to go down a different path. (Not to mention 30 something Eps that pushed this idea...)
Even though she had a reason, that doesn't give her permission to try and slaughter the 'people' of Goryeo. The King was responsible for ordering her family killed. And she was never a defender of Goryeo to begin with. Everyone has reasons, that doesn't always justify their actions. El Temur had reasons, that doesn't justify his trying to massacre an entire people because they weren't subservient.
Is this going to go downhill from here? Since Yeon Chul denounced Ki before he died? (Real Hist. spoilers) - Baek…
I actually figured that out yesterday >_< Ppl were upset about the King being shown in a positive light so they said he was based on a Fictional King of Goryeo.
It is the start of their crumbling under enemy forces... Which is probably why I may not have started this drama if I knew haha. It does make it interesting but I'm not a fan of dramas/films that depict the fall of a nation or an empire. No matter how hard they fight you know it's going to crumble in the end. They're interesting, but spending hours watching it slowly unfold is not enjoyable for me. I DID enjoy reading about it though! :)

No, it's a good question! They've publicized it as part of real history. I'm not sure why they didn't change the names... They actually had petitions from historians & historical societies try to ban the drama or at least reflect fact before it aired.
Many younger Koreans don't know the true history of Empress Ki and historians thought after seeing this drama they might think she was some kind of hero. >_>
*But the creators of the drama wanted to focus on the fact that a Korean, a concubine at that, was able to become an Empress in the Mongolian Empire. That's huge. That's why there's a disclaimer in the beg. of each Ep that it's not wholly based on facts. Most of the characters aren't as noble as they represent them. A lot of the events actually happened though! :) ...
Somebody who knows the story, PLEASE, tell me it's gonna have a happy end! Nyang is NOT going to end up El Temur…
I hope not >_<
(Historical spoiler if you don't want to know) But hopefully they won't follow history because she tried to slaughter her own people. She went missing when she finally gained power and no one knows what happened to her. >_> BUT, this is supposed to be the RISE of Empress Ki so... maybe it'll be happy? Well, I'd assume any happy ending would be bittersweet.
