Both of this movie is real true to life story with heart-wrenching romance and life that will bring the audiences the true meaning of unfaltering love and i believe anyone who watch both of this movie will touched buy the emotionally given by there own stories. i just wanna share that Hawthorn Tree Forever is base on the novel which was written by renowned author Aimi and was inspired by the real-life story of her friend, Jing. And also know as Diary of tears is dramatic tragedy written by aya kito base on her own life.
They have similar settings. The way the love is portrayed is slightly different but still gives you the warm feeling inside.
This review my contain spoilers
I made a suggestion that would definitely create a better trauma for you than this. Definitely 100 times better than Mr. Plankton Kdrama. If you like this kind of ending, I definitely recommend you to watch this movie. Also, you will watch the journey of pure love in the movie.

- Both deal w/ young love and its growing pains.
- Both deal w/ the "re-education" of urban young people through hard labor in rural villages..... as part of the Chinese Cultural Revolution.
Similar subjects addressed differently ..... Under the Hawthorn Tree is a simple and elegant film of innocent love .... Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is a film w/ a meaningful message, rebelling against the re-education.

The series and the movie share the same era, but different perspectives. The Love Story in the 1970's depicts how the people in that era lived their lives, and made peace with it. While Under The Hawthorn Tree emphasized the scarcity of basic needs, and how even love is expensive in their time. The movie is very poetic, and though they do not sugarcoat the hardships of the setting- there's still beauty in the simplicity of the way they created the movie.
PS: Under the Hawthorn has a beautiful, tragic ending, though.
