Since there are a lot of reviews from people who only watched the movie, I decided to help out those who read the manga and are thinking about watching this.Well, I read the manga and, maybe for this reason (since I already knew the ending), I actually enjoyed the movie a lot more than the manga itself. The manga gave me huge SLS because the second lead and the female lead relationship was much more developed in the manga (or probably is just Yamazaki Kento bias wrecking anyone even though his character is a coward - I think I'm just in love).
Also, maybe because I was expecting to hate the FL as much as I did reading the manga, I didn't find her as unbearable in the movie.
It looks like I hated the manga, right? Haha! But I actually really enjoyed reading it, just the ending had me go crazy.
Anyways: if you read the manga, do watch this! I like it even better because, even though is shorter, it develops the story in the right places so you won't get as frustrated :)

Typical High School Rom-Com
LIKES: The FXs (especially the one where FL head pops open and confetti sprays out) were really well done and funny. [I wish it was kept up the whole movie]. Kento did well in this role and the FL was okay too. She was a bit crazy, but not annoyingly so. I enjoyed the music too. The story is cliche if not typical, but it's a formula that works for an easy watch. Beautiful sky shots and scenery too, as well as locations picked.DISLIKES: Production issues: Zooming in they didn't use a film stabilizer, so it was unnecessarily shaky. No real character growth in any of them, including supporting cast, except maybe the 2ML. I wish his story had been better developed. This movie would've been better as a short drama or series. They tried to tackle deep issues like depression, but it fell flat.
Overall an easy watch, best not to have any expectations for a real engaging drama. Solid 5/10.

The actors were very good on their characters and cute. If you want to watch a cute love story this may be the movie for you.

The main girl's personality was so-so. She was tenacious in her actions, and was somewhat outspoken, but her complete lack of anything else made her seem flat. I enjoyed her cute antics and presence. The male lead was hard to sympathize with, although it was possible. Because of this, second-lead syndrome is heavy in this movie.
One thing I really enjoyed was the take on the 'cliche' romance and its continuous focus on a 'stage' and its 'hero and heroine'. I found the concept interesting, and I liked Kiritani's portrayal of it. Certainly, second-lead actresses often have to play the role of long childhood friend who have had crushes on their male best friend for as long as they can remember. It was fun to watch a take from this perspective.
I have rewatched this movie twice, mostly because of particular scenes that I enjoy. I recommend watching this, even if it's just for the cast.

A cute love story
I actually really liked the storyline. I thought all the characters in the movie actually matured and I really liked that about this movie. Some reviews mentioned that the girl was too obsessive and that might be true but she never reveals her obsessiveness to the hero. Instead she only reveals her obsessiveness about the hero to her best friend who in my opinion always gave the heroine sound advice. The hero starts dating another girl and the heroine is heartbroken and when she tells her best friend that this other girl is stealing her guy, the best friend says um you never even confessed to him so then how can she be the other woman (I would love to have a best friend like her). Also in the movies you never know whether the hero likes the heroine or not until the other guy comes into the picture and towards the end of the movie he gives a proper explanation as to why he never considered confessing to the heroine. The hero also ends up hurting the heroine due to some reasons but even after that when it came to a situation to protect the hero, the heroine jumps to save him and that’s when I understood that the heroine really likes the guy and its not just an obsession on her part. For anyone who claims to love someone but cannot look past their hurt to help them does not truly love that person but the heroine proves herself in this movie. Not just that, even the playboy second lead also matures to be a better individual and I liked that also about this movie.
Overall I really like this movie and I would definitely recommend it for someone who is looking for a cute and understanding love story with a little bit angst in it.

Well…
While i recommend watching this over reading the manga any day im still not sure if even recommend watching lol. The manga is very repetitive and annoying and the ending pays off a lot less than the movie— but it is still much more entertaining than this, the characters are much better and there is more consequences to actions id say! but ill cut the comparing now and just say it is very typical and simple, there are a handful of cute moments too! but it is boring and falls flat on itself, really only worth watching if you have nothing else lol. Also i still think after reading and watching she should’ve ended up with…well youll see if u watch! Was this review helpful to you?
Story is cliche, as other reviews mentioned. But since it was my first JDrama (and first Asian drama in general now that I think about it), I didn't mind. Nothing deep about the plot, just enough to get the story going but not too much that you'd have to think about it.
The female lead has cheesy moments, but not in the second half of the movie. And whiel the male lead is not too expressive, there are some small gestures he goes that I caught in the second time watching. Second female lead, acting is superb. Definitely love-hate relationship with her. Second male lead? Oh gosh, Kentaro stole my heart. Overall, the acting is pretty good.
I don't really remember the music, but I don't have anything negative to say about it either.
I have the memory of a goldfish so I forget drama plots very often, when I rewatch this movie, there's still some moments that get me squealing in my bed. I'm still invested in the story when I rewatch but however I do know the ending.
Also, to touch on the desperate aspect of the female lead, I didn't think she was overly clingy. Sure, she definitely was very attached to the male lead but hey, if my hot childhood guy friend that I've had a crush on for almost all my life decides to date a girl that's only known him for a few weeks? Heck yes I'd be just as desperate.

No as bad as it seems
I dont think the movie is as bad as everyone is saying, from what i watched from Japanese movies, specially the older ones, they always have the same troop in their school genera (stupid/ shy fl & bad/ popular/ careless ml) but im surprised by the dynamics of the characters, the fl is very funny and straightforward, she might be delusional at times and day dreaming of love, but arent all girls at that age think of? The ml is clueless with some trauma but he really cares for the fl, some might say there wasn’t proper build up, but i think it was pretty clear at the end and it didn’t need to drag further. My favorite character of all was the best friend, just loved how she was brutally honest with fl, yet concerned about her choices when it came to dating.i would say it might have been better if she ended up with 2ml, but then i thought maybe this was karma for all the girls he treated badly, and he learned how it is to love properly. As for the ml i dont think he really deserves her because he kinda started all of the mess, but still for the sake of the fl i will ship them, he might not be the best but at her heart he is and that is enough for me.
All in all, this movie might need some polishing in some areas, but i like how imperfect it is, not all stories end the way we desire them to be even in real life and this story depicts the love of the youth and how innocent and pure it could be, it is a good watch and really deserves a chance.

Reassuring watch if you're in love with someone who doesn't love you back
Complete transparency: I didn't finish this movie. The characters/dynamics seemed genuinely interesting in the beginning, with a lot of room for development and growth which this film fails terrifically at. Genuinely surprised that they have them get together in the end, even though I know this isn't an uncommon plot for jdramas. The male lead could have had some level of complexity/substance if they didn't end up together, and because they do, he becomes a very vapid and heartless character when it begins to dawn on you. Some really boring choices are made with the plot unfortunately, and I don't tend to fall prey to 2nd lead syndrome. The only moral of this movie is keep loving people who don't love you because they MIGHT love you back one day. The female lead starts out very shallow and doesn't have an ounce of growth throughout the entire movie because it never actually challenges her. It's mostly so disappointing because she is such a fun character and is brought so much life by her actress, that you really end up wanting her to respect herself more and develop outside of the boy she's spent possibly half of her whole life chasing. I did like the visuals, it's a pretty movie with charmingly tacky vfx. Loved her nails every time I saw them but hate every single hat in this movie. First 40 minutes is fun and overall a fine watch if you are looking for a bland, slow and substanceless movie beyond that mark. Great background movie perhaps...Was this review helpful to you?

first half is so much better, u should close b4 the end. (Bad Grammar)
This movie could have been one of my favoritos, but i just think the end breaks it. She just HAD tô end up w the guy she just couldnt get over bc she is uncapable of forgeting him. Ik real life dont work life, "oh this one is better, so im gonna fala in love with him instead of that shtty one", trust me, i really do; but its also not just one love for her whole life fr. It really seems like she liked the other guy and it would be a really good ending, with the consequences of not giving vale to the person who is with you now, and just caring for them when you lose then. And real life aspects, like losing people bc of lies and etc, getting over someone, shopping that it IS possible (as someone who like a person for year i would really like this ending, but all personal opiniões here)+, if the ML wasnt kento i would despise him lol.

The only value of this movie is discovering Kentaro Sakaguchi
Don't get me wrong. I like both Kento and Mirei a lot from a previous drama they were in, but the story and writing of this movie was just a huge let-down. I would prefer the movie ended with the montage of Kentaro and Mirei's relationship. Like the story beyond that is just ridiculous and downright foul. The humor and laugh factor is there for this (I mean with Kentaro Sakaguchi charming all of us in every scene he's in omg), and I think the actors really tried to carry the weight of the movie given the awful writing. Otherwise, this movie was awful. Was this review helpful to you?
