Cliche but look at the title lol

A very cliche and repetitive story but that's just how this story is going to be. It's a cute story, nonetheless. there's nothing super special about this story as it's like your typical rom-com. A poor girl with rich men as her love interests. We've seen it before, but this one really gets repetitive pretty quickly.

It's cute

First: This was my first Kdrama. (I know, how is this my first?)

I don't know if this is my nostalgica talking, as this was my first kdrama, or whether I just think the title already warned us, but it was clear from the start, that this wasn't gonna be a innovative story. And I personally think, it is totaly fine!

I really liked the chemistry between the main characters, I just think that Seo-woo deserved more. At the end of the drama I felt really bad for him. I understood what the idea of Hyun-min character was, but I didn't like it, he was a prick. I loved the soundtrack, still listen to it, and liked the ending. All in all a solid performance I think.

Honestly, this show is not a bad one. It's cringe because it's such a cliche story but the main girl plays such an adorable actress and she's good at what she does that it's kind of nice. Plus my favorite character of them all is 100% the security guard for the chairman because he's good at what he does; he's friendly and nice. I like all the cousins except for Ahn Jae Hyun. Like I've seen him in plenty of things and people adore him but he has no emotion, he has no reaction and he looks like a vampire; so when he played in blood, it was just plain fitting because he literally is the Robert Pattison of Korea. If they made a korean twilight; he should be the first one in it because he literally looks like he does not sleep or move his face so his acting just really gets me because I'm like WOW ARE YOU HAPPY OR SAD? Other than that, it's a good show. Your average cinderella by the adorable Park So Dam, Lee Jung Chin from CN Blue was just a sweet and awesome cousin and I liked the chemistry between So Dam and Jung II Woo, honestly. It was a good OST; the quality of the show is also nice; like 2016 was just a great year for kdrama's honestly.

DO READ THIS IF THINKING ABOUT WATCHING IT

this show was in my plan to watch list for over a year , i recently saw a reel if this show and decided to give it a shot ignoring all the bad comments and i have to say its not nearly as bad as they make it out to be .
The first 10 episodes were literally so good i watched all of them in a single day but the later episodes were a little bit draggy especially ep 14 . I didn’t like ep 14 one bit and even thought of dropping it but i’m glad i didn’t and watched it till the end.
Just like every other kdrama this one also had a few minus points but overall it was good and u should watch it if u have free time.
But i must say that i think it would have even better if hyun min was the ML and the hye ji story wasn’t there . Although i like jung il woo but ha won had really great chemistry with hyun min . Also the who is the real father part was unnecessary according to me .
SO IF YOU WANT TO WATCH SOMETHING FLUFFY DO WATCH THIS DRAMA also i would have given it a higher rating but it doesn’t have much rewatch value for me

Never really liked korean drama but kinda glad watched this. Although i still don't like it. But in the end this drama is kinda OK.

Yeah like Wednes write in her review. No thing such as 4 knight in this drama only 3. Why they must write the title as 4 knight...

I like Eun Ha Won (HW) she is a good girl with a good heart. But she also fickle girl that can't stand in her own decision. One min she decided to leave Ji Woon (JW), but other min she decided she want to be with JW. And why the past story between HW & JW don't include in the story from the beginning, only in the end... It will be better for the story to develop if they include it from the beginning.

The love rivalry between HW and Park Hye ji (HJ) also feel like half hearted. Like the writer want to make into love rivalry but also don't want to make it too complicated....

Overall this drama for me is really weird for the story to develop. The begining feel like drag, but when it come to the end feel like fast forward. I don't know maybe also because i'm used to c-drama plot. Maybe if they have longer episode the plot will be better.

What are YOU willing to do for money?

A cheesy but cute and at times frustrating (but fun) show that asks its audience to consider, what are YOU willing to do for money? Give up your integrity as a human being? How many are you willing to hurt in the process?

This Cinderella story turns a few of the classic tropes on their sides in ways that endeared me enough that certain moments in the second half didn't completely break it for me... although I wasn't much a fan of the "forgive abusive family members out of obligation because they're your family" angle the narrative took. It makes sense for these characters to feel this way in this specific plot (this family is all they've got) and I know I would have eaten this up years ago when "toxic family learns to love each other in their own ways through the pain" touched something gentle and desperate within me. Still, I do appreciate the emphasis on breaking the cycle by allowing people to grow and choosing to do better moving forward so you don't get stuck repeating past mistakes. The journey to that point is tough but very important and cathartic in its own way.

On a more nitpicky note (and maybe it's just me), each episode has like two songs that play multiple times and boy is it noticeable. I get it - they're good, thematic songs! - but it starts to feel overplayed to the point where the effect lost its intended hold over me.

All that said, the characters are fun and I did enjoy watching their growth. But Seo Woo and Yoon Seong are the best boys - no one can change my mind.

Cheesy but still enjoyed it

First off, loved the OST. Sometimes i think the soundtrack saved the series from tanking. It's not a bad series. It's light. No complicated plots. Was a breezy watch. Just...really cheesy and too predictable. But hey, cheesiness doesn't kill a show. All it does is makes me respond "really?!?, really?? alright. Meh. Whatever" quite often. I would have like to see a bit more character development with the supporting casts, just to add a bit more depth to the story and plots. But it's meant to be a light watch so I took it as exactly so.

Still a wonderful series but not all tropes age well

9/10 is my rating

On second watch, after diving into hundreds of K-dramas over the years, I revisited Cinderella and the Four Knights (2016), a drama I initially rated a perfect 10/10 and still holds a top spot on my rewatch list. While my love for this series remains strong, my seasoned perspective picked up on some flaws that I overlooked when the drama was fresh. For new viewers in 2025 and beyond, some elements may feel dated or frustrating due to evolving K-drama standards, particularly around character motivations and outdated tropes. Below, I’ve organized my updated thoughts into themed categories to highlight what still works and what might annoy a modern audience.

What Still Shines

Despite the issues, the drama’s heart—Eun Ha Won’s (Park So-dam) journey and her impact on the Kang cousins—remains captivating. Her feisty yet kind nature, the slow transformation of the spoiled heirs, and the bromance among Kang Hyun Min (Ahn Jae-hyun), Kang Ji Woon (Jung Il-woo), and Kang Seo Woo (Lee Jung-shin) still make this a joy to watch. Lee Yoon Sung’s (Choi Min) quiet loyalty as the bodyguard adds depth, and the overall vibe keeps it a comfort rewatch for me.

Spoilers

I still adore Cinderella and the Four Knights for its strong female lead, Eun Ha Won (Park So-dam), who brings heart and grit to every scene. Her ability to transform the Kang cousins—Hyun Min’s (Ahn Jae-hyun) playboy charm, Ji Woon’s (Jung Il-woo) rebellious edge, and Seo Woo’s (Lee Jung-shin) artistic soul—feels rewarding, and the bromance is a highlight. However, Park Hye Ji’s (Son Na-eun) clingy, manipulative behavior and the lack of accountability for Ji Hwa Ja (Kim Hye-ri) and Eun Gi Sang (Kim Yong-geon) are harder to ignore now. The drama’s reliance on outdated tropes, like excusing bad behavior or normalizing obsessive crushes, might not sit well with new viewers. Still, Ha Won’s positivity and the cousins’ growth keep this a beloved watch, even if it’s not as perfect as I once thought.

Character Dynamics and Flaws

Unrealistic Romance and Obsession: Park Hye Ji’s (Son Na-eun) obsession with Kang Hyun Min (Ahn Jae-hyun) feels unwarranted and uncomfortable. Their childhood connection, severed for a decade while Hyun Min studied abroad, doesn’t justify her clinginess. People grow apart, and her relentless pursuit—crying constantly and demanding attention—makes her seem selfish and needy, almost like she’s wearing him down into a relationship. A modern viewer might see this as unhealthy, bordering on Stockholm syndrome vibes. Hyun Min’s own drama-llama tendencies, like his “pushing you away because I love you” excuse, don’t hold up either. His playboy persona and string of women undermine his claim of deep feelings, making their dynamic feel forced and unconvincing. She also seemed willing to be with any of the cousins, making it apparent her real motivation was marrying into the family. It was selfish to pit them against each other the way she did. I mentally groaned every time her character came on, in this re-watch.

Moral Inconsistencies: The Chairman’s wife, Ji Hwa Ja (Kim Hye-ri), is unforgivably cruel to Eun Ha Won (Park So-dam), despite her own past as a poor, abused woman. This hypocrisy is jarring, and the lack of an apology or redemption arc for her feels like a missed opportunity. Similarly, Ha Won’s father, Eun Gi Sang (Kim Yong-geon), is neglectful and psychologically abusive toward Ha Won, believing she’s not his daughter, only to flip when he learns the truth. His distrust of his late wife and failure to love her enough to believe in her integrity is disappointing, and his behavior toward a child—blaming her for adult issues—is inexcusable.

Problematic Friendships: Ha Won’s friend, Go Seo Kyung (Cho Hye-jung), is more annoying than supportive. She repeatedly refuses to let a homeless Ha Won stay with her, which feels like a betrayal of friendship. Her creepy behavior toward Kang Seo Woo (Lee Jung-shin), like taking unauthorized photos and invading his phone’s privacy, is unsettling. The implied romantic tease between them at the end feels unearned and cheapens Seo Woo’s character, one of my favorites.

Dated Tropes: The drama leans heavily on tropes that haven’t aged well. The “I like you, so you have to like me” mentality—where characters like Hye Ji are supported in their obsessive pursuits—feels out of touch with modern K-dramas that prioritize mutual respect. The normalization of privacy invasions (e.g., Seo Kyung’s actions) and the “I’m a jerk but it’s okay because I’m sorry” arc, particularly with Hyun Min and Ji Woon, grates on contemporary sensibilities. New viewers might find these elements frustrating, as recent dramas tend to handle relationships and accountability with more nuance.

Synopsis

This is a 2016 South Korean television series with 16, 60-minute episodes. It is based on a novel that had the same title and the basic elements, of the story draws some parallels with Boys Over Flowers (2009). The "Cinderella" in this story is Eun Ha Won (Park So-dam) who is hard working and mature for her age. She lost her mother and her father remarried but is rarely home. She lives with her stepmother and stepsister, who do not consider her family and are selfish with the limited resources the family has. Ha Won is working multiple part-time jobs to save up for college. Her mother, when alive, encouraged Ha Won to be a teacher and that is her life goal. Circumstances lead her into the realm of three rich, spoiled, heirs to an empire and the grandfather thinks she might be just the one to get the boys into shape. This is after he saw her "discipline" one of his grandsons who was not treating his elder or her with respect. The grandfather strikes a deal with her and gets her to move in with his handsome nephews as sort of an adult nanny. Before moving in, Ha Won already had encounters with lady's man and playboy Kang Hyun Min (Ahn Jae-hyun) and the "gangsterish" rebel Kang Ji Woon (Jung ll-Woo). Kang Seo Woo (Lee Jung-shin) is not immediately on Ha Won's radar but the grandfather does not think much of his music career. The fourth knight is the grandson's live in bodyguard Lee Yoon Sung (Choi Min). Park Hye Ji (Son Na-eun) is a childhood friend of Kang Hyun Min and Kang Ji Woon has designated himself as her protector. Hye Ji sees herself marrying into the Kang family and often uses one of the cousins to get the attention of another.

Totally deserve watching!!

Highly recommended, Actually before starting this drama i didn't have much expectations from it but while watching 2-3 episodes i was like no this is something else l, it's something which i was finding for a long time. It's just like the dramas which are for so loved by the watchers like boys over flowers, Love O2O, Descendants of the sun. OST, music, acting, story, cast are just the perfectly put in this. Also, it's my first time writing this much long review to any drama and the reason is becoz i am far so impressed by it and i want more people to watch and becoz it's so underrated drama on MDL it's just got rating of 7.8 overall and on IMDb not quite good too so I'm expecting it to get atleast more than 8.5 star rating becoz it really deserves. Also, if it didn't i also won't be here writing this review becoz i know i never wrote for any. Lastly, very sorry if there's any grammatical mistakes you see i am very excited so i didn't care about those. I am just writing whatever i'm feeling like. So please go watch it, if you didn't by now, becoz really you're missing a masterpiece. Thankyou!!

Cinderella and Four Knights (2016) - I like most of the characters in the drama but the storyline is just really meh for me. It's too usual, there is nothing new that I felt bad for the characters and the actors playing them. All I could remember is how I used to complain about this drama.

The acting is great for me. Both leads especially have been good actors and I have seen them in other dramas so no complain to that. The title is misleading for me since there were no 4 knights that was what I was expecting.

The music is not memorable.

I would not rewatch. I would not recommend this to others as well.

I am in love with this drama. This drama is really good. This is both funny and serious and It is perfectly-balanced in this matter. I really like the storyline of the drama. The acting of the actors was really good just perfect. The OSTs used in the drama were also really good. Park So Dam's acting was really good. Moreover, The acting of Jung Ilwoo, Ahn Jaehyun, Lee Sungmin and rest of the cast was really good. The drama was also quite hilarious at times. I really loved the drama. This was a new kind of drama and as I shipped Eun Ha Won and Kang Jiwoon from the start and they ended up together in the end, so I was really happy and I loved it. But one thing was that I think that they rushed up the things in the last episode as a lot happened in the last. But overall the drama was good and I would recommend it cause It is a must watch.
