One of the most underrated Kdramas

I went into the show expecting mediocrity because of all the reviews (and maybe because of that) I was pleasantly surprised by the story, acting and pacing. I actually loved the show. It's a political drama. Anyone who doesn't like the genre will not appreciate this drama to its full capacity.

The characters are its strength for sure. They were very complex and well-defined and best part, gray. Although there were flaws (which is expected hence the 9/10) but they weren't big enough to ruin the show for me.

Unlike a lot of people here, I actually liked the main couple as well as the working partnerhip of the villain/hero.

The perfect show if you're interested to watch something different, with a little bit of romance, alot of action and politics and scheming. It also has a little more of global exposure than the regular kdramas. You'll see other countries/international events being mentioned.

I write this review after I have watched it more than half a year ago.
It is a political drama and I watched it when I still was rather new in the Kdrama world. Sometimes I had to rewind to read the subs again and to understand all intrigues and get a better hold of the plot.

I expected more of the romance. Apart from some sweet scenes, this was inferior to the relationship between Kim Je Ha (Ji Chang Wook) and Choi Yoo Jin (Song Yoon Ah). Hate, love, respect.
Song Yun Ah is a great actress in this Kdrama. I have to check out other dramas in which she is acting.
And JCW is just always cute and I like his action scenes. But in general good performance in this drama.

Before having registered at MDL, I had my own grading system. These are the grades which I applied and which have contributed to the overall score I gave to this drama.
acting M: 9
acting F: 7
couple match: 7
romance: 8
emotions: 8.5
story line: 9
supporting cast: +++
watch back: yes
As an average I would give an 8, but because of the amazing performance of Song Yoon Ah, I add one point.

There are very few dramas that capture my heart for this long and of course it is really difficult for me to love and have crush on someone this way but this is the only drama up till now that forced me to love and adore Ji Chang wook... This was his first drama I ever watched and then just in a week there was nothing left not even his interviews.... I have seen everything and read every piece about him that is available on net.... Now the question is why... Well first thing first... Why you watch a drama...? There are many answers to this question but the main conclusion is to cherish your heart ..this drama will give you a new way to feel love... Love is not only to protect your loved one but to keep yourself safe until the time when you realized that your loved ones will be safe even After you leave... A total new theory for me but what a thought... Honestly I am not im yoon ah fan at truly speaking I dropped two of her dramas but in this drama she made me watch it all... A naive girl who has just two people in her world her dad and her lover and that's all she wants... And the way she portrayed traumatic girl character deserves an applause... Song yoon ah is amazing in her character and too be honest in few scenes you will empathies to her... But Chang wook has no match... His pain his tears and his screaming all showed how much he went through... His fiancée was killed and his  lover is in danger... He failed to protect her but this time he is ready to butthead everyone who lay a finger on his lover... In every episode I covered my pillow with my droll as there is a lot of skin show by Ji Chang wook so don't forget to grab handkerchief ladies and boys you too ... Lol

This drama is an open door to the reality beyond the screens and beyond the news

The situation in Korea in recent days reminded me of this drama, which is too good not to watch.
It's not a romantic drama, nor a thriller in the true sense of the word, but it's impossible not to like it.
The characters are extraordinary and the way they develop throughout the episodes makes you change your initial opinion.
The film mainly shows the struggles behind the political scene and raises an alarm about the power of a small group of powerful people who can manipulate public opinion and decide on the election of the president.
I think Soo Yoon Ah portrayed Choi Yoo Jin brilliantly.
Park Kwan Soo can't even be considered a supporting character because Kim Gab Soo played him so well that he seems like one of the main characters.
Kim Je Ha is the hero that is needed but is actually hard to find, and, as usual, Ji Chang Wook does an exceptional job.
The umbrella scene is magnificent and I've seen it partially taken over in another Chinese drama.
Although it has been written that action, romance and thriller are not combined very well, I think it is one of the best dramas of this genre.

The K2 - a must see

A great Ji Chang Wook and a fantastic soundtrack. Small point deduction because some points remain open, such as the conversation between Anna and her mother's murderer. Some of the twists didn't make sense, but it all made sense again at the end of the whole thing. It probably wouldn't have taken 16 episodes to tell the story, but any episode with Wookie is a good episode ❤️ If you haven't seen the series yet, you should definitely check it out. I think it's a shame that the DVD is only available with an English SUB. The soundtrack is also only available as MP3. But I think this is a general approach of Asian series.

Ah, K2, I had such high hopes for you.

Ji Chang Wook was a very, very attractive bodyguard, in both his demeanor and choices he made throughout the drama.

Didn't understand the forced loveline, as there was little chemistry.

Song Yoon Ah's acting was amazing and made this drama shine beyond all of the high production-value, high octane action scenes which were also beautifully shot. Her chemistry with JCW was off the charts.

Watch this one if you are into multi dimensional villains and action. The romance was forced and seemed to be thrown in to placate those of us who will watch a drama for romances.

It's like watching an intense game of chess!

The K2 cemented Ji Chang Wook as my favorite Korean actor! I watched this immediately after seeing Healer and both kept me binge watching into the wee hours of the morning. I loved the writing of this show. Just as the hero or herorine find themselves in a tight corner that you think they can't escape, they find a way. If you like mysteries, or action flicks, or heart melting romances, this series has it all. Normally, I prefer historical dramas more, but Healer and The K2, changed my mind. My goal is to find and watch everything Ji Chang Wook ever did.

If I could pick an action-romance kdrama for everyone to watch, that woul be The K2.
This drama was soooo entertaining and it wasn't boring to watch at all.
Actors were amazing+good looking and they delivered to their roles perfectly.
If it was possible,I would give this drama a 100/10.
If you're wondering if you should watch it or not,WATCH IT.
And if you wanna similar action dramas here are few recommendations:Healer,My Name,Bloodhounts, the uncanny counter,Vigilante,Vagabond,Descendants of the sun.(Every one of these if AMAZING)
Also if you wanna watch action movie,OFFICER BLACK BELT is my no.1 recommendation.

To Kim Je Ha, the best bodyguard there is.

as I watch this series from the first episode to the last years ago, I was impressed. the story, the plot, the characters and the actors and actresses portraying them are simply amazing. and need I mention Ji Chang Wook's action scenes worth an applause and are always swoon worthy? and there's Yoona who portrayed Anna's character brilliantly, she's so amazing. and the actress(I'm sorry, I forgot her real name) who plays the stepmother is good, too.

One thing that I'd just like to say is this---I tried so hard to see the so-called chemistry between Je Ha and Yoo Jin. like, I really focused on watching even the tiniest details of the series but damn---those Je Ha and Yoo Jin shippers swooning on them is just.... nevermind. I want to avoid a fandom delulu war here so I'd rather keep it to myself. what the hell.

those toxic shippers swooning over that rain scene---the heck... It's not even a rain scene at all but sprinklers that gone off after it detected smoke from a burning thing that Je Ha did, to get Yoo Jin out of that room. there was nothing romantic in it for goddamn sake.

I don't mind their weird taste at all---but what pissed me off is the way they'd bring Anna down and call her names, defaming her character. I don't know if I watched the same series with these shippers what the hell---but Anna behaving and acting that way is a normal response and defense mechanism. She was forced to stay abroad at a young age, witnessed her mother's death and was abandoned by her ambitious and power-hungry politician father. She was locked up in a monastery, hidden from the world except to the few who knew about her existence. She became a recluse, diagnosed with sociophobia and a severe depressive disorder. anyone who has been in her place will totally understand that she didn't that life. It wasn't her fault. Mental Health issues like that of Anna needs sympathy and compassion, not snide remarks.

Yoo Jin on the other hand is perfect to the witch that she is---her cunning nature, arrogance, superiority complex and wickedness sealed everything. She has always wanted Je Ha dead right from the start and only gets interested in him after that car crash accident and the sprinkler scene. to be honest, what Yoo Jin felt for Je Ha which she obviously shows despite not saying anything is obsession, not love. she obviously like Je Ha, that even one of the oldest member of the so-called cloud nine noticed it immediately.

Yoo Jin was fascinated and obsessed with Je Ha---even calling him a dangerous wolf she can never tame and not some ordinary hunting dog who follows her every command and is always at her beck and call. He was the alpha male so capable and strong not to mention handsome---that dared to defy her orders, even talking to her so casually like they're not an employer and employee. to Yoo Jin, Je Ha is more of a challenge than anything. She may have genuinely like him, but her intentions were never pure at all. She wants him all to herself that even giving an order to shoot and kill her stepdaughter is a like a walk in the park for Choi Yoo Jin. and that night that Anna's mother died, she could've saved her by calling 911 but she did not. She left, leaving these words, "love is not meant to be shared." and at that time, she meant Anna's father. If that's not selfish and wicked enough, then I don't know what that is.

and and the way Je Ha looks at Yoo Jin? nah. K2 stares at Madam Choi with eyes full of coldness, animosity and indifference--- unlike the smile and warmth that Je Ha shows to Anna. K2's eyes lights up every time he sees her. his smile and him cheering for Anna in that ramen and rooftop scene is so cute and adorable, with JCW and Yoona's loveable and sweet on-screen chemistry. Je Ha and Anna are each other's safe space, aside from the fact that it was Je Ha who really fell in love first and fell even harder.

It was Anna's innocence and pure heart that made Je Ha love her the most---not because she reminds him of his past love. It even reminds me of the reason why Katniss chose Peeta over Gale. It's because of the great reason that just like Katniss, K2 already has enough fire inside him. that he doesn't want a fuel that will ignite that fire even more which will inevitably happen had he ended up with Yoo Jin and not Anna. and Yoo Jin didn't pulled the trigger, it was Je Ha himself who did it. He just needs the right time and the right person to do so.

The K2 will teach its viewers the lesson we need to know about the fact that it's not just money, power and influence that destroys the world and one's self---but greed. Just like money is not the root of all evil, but the lust and greed for it.

disappointing end

the story is very promising. everything goes well until the last 5 episodes. it becomes more and more violent and hectic. and sadly the last episode isn't as soothing as it should be (because we are used to). if you are sensitive to violence I would not recommend this.
I really loved the relationship between the main good character and the main bad one. they managed it in an unique way. this make this drama even more frustrating because it really had it all at first.
I really don't know which one is the main female lead because the supposed one was so bland that the second female lead took all the light.
so is it a good drama to watch? yes, but don't expect too much.
