One of the best Medical K-Drama

**My Review of "Dr. Romantic" (10/10)**

I recently finished watching "Dr. Romantic," and I have to say, it deserves a perfect 10/10 rating. Here's why this K-drama stands out for me:

**Character Development:**
The characters in "Dr. Romantic" are incredibly well-developed. Each one has a unique personality and backstory that makes their growth throughout the series compelling and relatable. I found myself deeply invested in their journeys, cheering for their successes and empathizing with their struggles.

**Realistic Medical Cases:**
The show's portrayal of medical cases is impressively realistic. The detailed depiction of medical procedures, ethical dilemmas, and the hospital environment adds a layer of authenticity that I really appreciated. It felt like I was getting an inside look at the real-life challenges faced by medical professionals.

**Performance:**
Han Suk-kyu's performance as Teacher Kim is nothing short of spectacular. His nuanced portrayal brings depth to the character, making him both inspiring and relatable. The supporting cast, including Yoo Yeon-seok, Seo Hyun-jin, Ahn Hyo-seop, and Lee Sung-kyung, also delivered outstanding performances that added to the overall excellence of the show.

**Emotional Depth:**
"Dr. Romantic" is not just a medical drama; it explores themes of redemption, compassion, and the complexities of human emotions. The show balances intense medical emergencies with touching personal stories, creating a rollercoaster of emotions that kept me engaged from start to finish.

**Cinematography and Direction:**
The series is beautifully shot, with excellent direction that keeps viewers engaged. The use of lighting, camera angles, and settings enhances the storytelling and adds to the overall appeal of the show. The visual quality is top-notch and complements the narrative perfectly.

**Minor Criticisms:**
While I absolutely loved the series, there are a few minor points I noticed:
- At times, the drama can be overly melodramatic, with heightened emotions and conflicts that might feel exaggerated to some viewers.
- Certain subplots, especially in the second season, felt dragged out, which can be a bit frustrating.
- Some plot developments are predictable, following typical K-drama tropes.

**Conclusion:**
Overall, "Dr. Romantic" is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys medical dramas and character-driven stories. Its blend of medical realism, emotional depth, and strong performances make it a standout series. Despite a few minor flaws, the show's ability to touch hearts and inspire viewers makes it a memorable and impactful drama. Whether you're new to K-dramas or a long-time fan, "Dr. Romantic" offers a compelling narrative that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

( Personally ) It was great but It takes time to get hooked.

At the beginning of the drama, I thought it would circle around the theme of revenge of our mc but I was wrong. From the first episode, I wasn't hooked that much but as I finished the episodes one by one. I fell in love. The more the characters develop, the more you understand them. We could say that Teacher Kim ( One of the mc ) is harsh and unlovable but as the story goes on, you'll def fall in love with him. I actually was hooked by the way his smile and the drama also shows that he has a bit of a childish side, which was very funny. I watch this drama because I wanted to know more about medicine and I wasn't disappointed. This whole drama was inspiring and I felt that this show convinced me that maybe someday I could become one of our MCs. Yes, It has romance which I want to commend because they add the right amount of romance in this drama. They made sure not to make one genre over the top while one is bringing down one. I would recommend this to those who like doctors, comedy, and with romance.

Personally, my favorite character would be Park Eun Tak. He's a nurse and a supporting character in this drama. I was caught off guard by his cute smile at the beginning and as the show goes on even though he didn't get many scenes, They still showed his character which made me fall in love with him more. I'm not saying the other characters are bad, In fact, I love all of them except the villain ( I want to drop him an island where there are a lot of zombies ). BUT EUN TAK IS MY FAVVVVVV.

Thank you for making this drama. It's def a memorable one for me.

If I were to describe this whole series in one word, it will be passion. Master Kim knows what he wants, why he wants it and will do what he can in his power to achieve it. Passion for what he does is what drives the story of this drama. His no-nonsense approach reminds young doctors why they chose to be doctors in the first place and pulls them back should they get sidetracked by the dog eat dog world out there. He teaches them but he also let them experience the learning process in a way that is meaningful and practical.

I understand that healthcare can be such a profit making business but I really find it hard to believe that SK could be so harsh but maybe it does exist? I also find the premise of choosing who to treat first based on who arrived in the ER first is very weak and truth be told belittles what great job doctors do. Nothing could be harder than triaging who has the better outcome when push comes to shove, I wouldn’t want to be in their position. I did like how they showed how human emotions get the better of human intellect, Yoo Yeon Seok did a wonderful job portraying this inner conflict. Having said that it was a delight to see his chemistry with the FL whose acting was not too shabby. The star of this drama is Master Kim himself, he was perfect for the role. Each smirk, grin, smile and eyebrow lift was right on the ball except maybe his crying scene, I think that was a total fail and I laugh. I do have to say that this ahjumma have added Han Suk Kyu to her watch list!

A binge worthy drama with suspense and drama

This is one of the dramas that had a well-thought-out storyline. There were many twists in the story and interesting character developments which was holding you in suspense. Most questions were answered at the end, which made it all an entertaining and satisfying drama to watch. I also did not expect me to enjoy watching the surgical scenes, but this drama made them interesting to watch.

Regarding the characters, I liked that every character had their own storyline, with each character adding something to the story. I was hoping at times for a bit more for the love story, since the first episode made me really want to see how their relationship would grow, but unfortunately, their relationship was not that satisfying to watch, even though the actors did have chemistry. But the hospital team grew on me and I really wanted to get to know them more.

I liked that there were enough light-hearted scenes in between all the suspenseful scenes and I found many scenes very funny and entertaining.

Therefore, I would recommend people to watch the drama.

Life changing

Soooo.... I never leave any reviews as most shows have enough of them already. But... I can honestly say that Dr Romantic has left me with feelings I need to share. The storyline is really one of the best I have ever seen. The lessons that can be taken from each episode, the emotions that you experience with the characters and the moments where you go "no way!" or the "aha" moments makes this drama an absolute must watch. I could not fault one person's acting and the chemistry, oh the chemistry, from the first episode to the last. Makes me wonder how amazing it must not have been to be on set while shooting this series. I have been in the medical field for years, and there are times when you question why we do what we do. Dr Romantic has awoken my passion again, and reminded me why I chose this field in the first place. Isn't that what a story should do? Make you reflect upon life, question things that you have just accepted and when those last credits play, makes you want to go out and change the world. It might sound cheesy to most of you, but to me, Dr Romantic is truly an exceptional drama, as every single person on that set , did their job with passion as it is so clearly displayed by the quality of this story. I am eager to go to work tomorrow with this renewed passion, and my hope is that everyone that watches this drama takes something away that will improve how you see and act in this world. Thank you Dr Romantic!

Story

I see a lot of people saying Hospital Playlist is better but I've never watched that so with nothing to compare with I thought the story was pretty good. The main villain was so annoying and petty and it felt like these people could just not listen to reason or let things go. Literally the he had no reason to be hating so much on Master Kim when he got more money and more shit going for himself but whatever. Character wise I loved Master Kim the most but didn't really like the two other doctors they were kinda annoying to me. The romance also didn't ship it and didn't make sense to me the first episode was definitely crazy af like a bomb exploded first episode then after that it was ignored lol. But yea I loved how every patient had a story or a lesson to tie in with I found that interesting.

Cast

Felt like the two doctors Master Kim was teaching were not really good actors lol and looked older than the role

Music

Not memorable and some ballads sounded like ass

Conscience or Greed?

"Don't give up asking questions about why we live and what we live for. The moment you give up on that, the romantic life ends."

I came here prior watching this title, and I got intimidated by almost everything: the title, the poster and the genre tags. I thought this is going to be a romance-melodramatic medical show. After watching the first quarter of the show, you will get more confusion, is this a thriller? As you progressing with the story, you then will see how good is the story actually. There are a lot of message behind this show, especially about conflict of a doctor's mind. What should we follow, conscience or greed? Responsibility or climb the ladder? We have three young doctors with their own idealism stuck in an deserted hospital where whatever they do will not result in a wide recognition. There, we can see a very heartwarming character development. We get Kang Dong-Ju who goes from the one who always taking side to the one who faints in the ER due to overworking. We get Yun Seo-Jung who goes from the one who always blames herself for every mistake to the one who stands up for her patients. To me who have no idea about medical, everything seems so realistic. Don't expect a character where the doctor is a superhero that saves everything, I even think they have a lot of died patients on screen in this show. They also highlight the stupid politics inside the hospital. And apart from the medical life, we also get touch of slow-burning romance as well as comedy. All of them in precise dosage that won't make it cringe.

However an excellent story doesn't mean it flawless. I am quite annoyed about how the Doldam Hospital management team responds to the pressure. While President Do from Geodae Hospital is very nosy even to other hospital's matters, President Yeo rarely takes any impactful actions when they are accused by President Do. Manager Jang has been seen taking President Do's side on multiple occassion, yet it takes so long for somone to either interferes or confronts him. The emergercy surgery during President Shin's surgery doesn't seem logic. Yeon-Hwa pages Dong-Ju and In-Beom who are occupied at that time, while actually there is an available GS, Doctor Song. Also, the conflict between Dong-Ju and In-Suk doesn't seem to have any clear resolution. This conflict is caused by a big mistake from Dong-Ju past, and it's disappointing that the writer failed to make a better resolution or show how Dong-Ju repents it.

Finally, I will definitely recommend this show, especially if you enjoy medical dramas. This show definitely has a different kind of "thriller". You don't have to be a doctor or in a medical related to get the message. And after all, it's also worth for rewatch.

best medical drama ever

honestly im a little sqeamish and always avoided medical dramas but my friend reccomended it to me and it was the best thing they have ever done.

after watching this drama my fear of blood was gone and i honestly became more intrigued with anatomy.

the casting is GREAT and the acting is so good i honestly was in shock every episode.

my ONLY problem with this drama is the title. when i first started watching it i thought it was a romance/medical drama but for the first 10 episodes there was very little romance, only in the first 2 episodes.

but nevertheless i really enjoyed this and i reccomend watching season 2 (2020) and season 3 (2023) as its just as good as season 1!!!

Things I liked: Episode 2 has a lovely kiss scene and overall there's some good Have / Have Not storyline about how the wealthy have better health and emergency outcomes and how maybe that's not good or ethical. There are some also well developed characters that I appreciated.

Things I didn't like: Everything is so dramatic (not the emergency room emergencies which I expect to be somewhat dramatic, it's the everything else), there's a lot of shouting. So much low key misogyny. But the reason I dropped this show around Episode 8 or 9 and then jumped to 20-21 to see the end and Kim Hye Soo's cameo is that (CW: sexual violence mention) there is a graphic description of sexual violence against a child and then a grown male doctor touches and whispers in the ear of the child actor who plays that child without consent in a non medical context and as a CSA survivor, it just really stressed me out and I couldn't finish the show.

annoying characters

From all the series about medicine this drama is definitely the worst one. All 3 lead characters are completely annoying.

Kang dong-ju is a hypocrite. Also he is angry and arrogant just because someone is a better specialist. So instead of admitting that he made a mistake he is complaining about a Teacher Kim.

Female lead keeps blaming others about her situation from the past.

Teacher Kim - no comment... (in a negative way)
