Pathetic loser disguised as a gentleman

I knew it. My intuition was right. That Ryuzo is no good as a man. He’s such a hypocritical and insecure pathetic loser disguised as a ‘gentleman’. Ugh. 😑 I hate him so much. He even beat his wife while knowing she was doing the right thing for his own business that he was struggling to manage on his own. Then she had to apologize for humiliating him, because “he’s a proud man…” and his wife should be sorry for hurting his pride. This mindset was normalized in the old days and sadly, somehow I still see it in my society now. The elderly always say that if a wife is better than her husband, that family is ruined, as no ‘masculine’ man would want his woman to take control of the family and humiliate him in front of others.

Another sad thing is that Oshin let her husband beat her. It’s actually understandable, when she grew up in an abusive family, when her father beat her and her mother, and then her father and older brother was using her for money. I think she’s used to it and doesn’t consider it as a big deal. She’s thinking that she deserves to be hit, because ‘she has hurt her husband’s feelings’. I’ve met some women like this in real life. They always make some excuses for why their husbands treat them badly. I actually just argued with my mom about this recently. The elderly still believe that a wife should be taught and disciplined well, so a husband has the right to ‘discipline’ his wife. I personally think there’s absolutely no excuse for a man to beat his wife. I’m so sick of it! Things are getting better and I hope we can get rid of this mindset forever soon.

If this were a modern drama with modern values, I would sue the screenwriters for letting Oshin endure this man. In my opinion, Oshin should better off unmarried and run her own business. This jerk has come into her life and I’m sure he will ruin it. It’s so sad for me to see how Oshin always wanted to make it on her own and not suffer in marriage like her mother did, but now might end up following the exact same track.

Anyway, I always feel that Oshin looks happiest when she’s around her supportive women. So far she had been protected, and helped a lot by wonderful women. She’s also learnt a lot of things from the women in her life. I love and respect most of the female characters so far. For now, I wish the best for the cafe girls and the hairdressing shop owner lady, and the young maid at the hairdressing shop.
