No Regret (2006)

So corny!

Whoever wrote the dialogue for this film, didn't ever hear humans talk to each other! Haha! The dialogue is just so corny and cringe and unnatural. It's probably the biggest issue of this film.
As for the rest, it works well enough. But I have to say, I thought the main couple's relationship didn't have the necessary build-up to inspire loyalty from viewers.
What do I mean? I mean, the reason why they should be in love is so vague and underdeveloped. We see the aftermath of the obsessive love but the love's existence in the first place is not explained well-enough. And I don't mean exposition or info dump. I mean, nothing is shown in the beginning that makes me believe this is a genuine mutual love. Why should I care or even believe that this is love when these characters have barely had any interactions and what little interaction they had is fraught with conflict and rejection? However, a well-written conversation would've solved this issue. Unfortunately, the dialogue was too shabby so it didn't help matters.
That said, if you suspend your skepticism and accept that sure! They are in love, whatever! Then, you can enjoy the bizarre and tumultuous second half of the film.
The acting is good. Kim Nam Gil is in this and I think this is my first time watching him. He's pretty! Lee Young Hoon is very good too and now I'm wondering why he isn't active anymore.
The film is almost old, so I don't know what to say about the production. It's okay I think. The editing is a bit choppy but I think that is intentional. This has a very indie movie vibe.
And the final act is so exhilarating and shocking.
No regrets about watching this. I recommend it. And no...it's not THAT explicit! Grow up! Stuff right now are so much worse. That said, it's still an Adults Only film. So minors stay away. Seriously!!!!

Confused

Overall the idea was good. The plot, though overused and repeated often, is still a good trope. The first hour and a half had a genuinely good story.

The last 20-30 minutes, though...

I'm beyond confused as to what they wanted to portray. The last scene honestly made the entire show go down the drain for me. (not in a bad way) I just found myself so distraught and caught off guard. They went through multiple incredibly traumatic events but Jae-Min's thought was to... grope him? Why did he grab the poor man's balls? why was that the end?

I genuinely had to do a double take and burst out laughing. Overall it was a good storyline, the end just..

maybe they intended it to be sentimental or tie back to how they met, but I've never been more caught off guard at the end of a movie.

Surprisingly Candid

This old BL was exceptionally good. The story line was confusing at times especially when Su Min continued to reject Jae Min. Jae Min's instant infatuation and continued pursuit was touching. Once they became a couple their love was poignant. Considering the year this was filmed and in an ultra conservative nation the development of the entire script was realistic and explicit without actually showing a great deal. Definitely not a movie for minors, but adults should be able to handle the down to earth dialogue and sexual actions. I have to assume the ending was meant to be profound in some way, but Jae Min putting his hand on Su Min's privates in view of the policeman kind of seemed strange. Again, I can only assume since communicating wasn't the main couples strong suit that the gesture was meant to be one of reconciliation and acceptance of their tabu relationship. I'm glad neither lead died and apparenting their relationship would continue.

Minor shouldn't watch the movie.
I recommend the movie for non homophobic people.

The love scenes leaves and the cinematography gives the impression watching real story. I loved that side to the movie.
The OST wasn't something special, in fact the moments without background music were more effective for the story.
The plot was a sample and commercial till one moment after that story got really unexpected turnover of the turnover.
The acting was good. It wasn't spectacular, but the gay roles are usualy hard to play, so i would say the main actors did really good.

The last scene is just wow!

Oh my, the last scene is SO beautiful! This movie is beautifully done- gosh, this is one high quality BL, seriously.

It's not as lighthearted as the poster seems to be, yet it's luckily not as dark as I thought it'd be

it somehow has deep dark theme underlying, yet it's not too heavy to watch. Yes, its emotional and all but beautiful

I really LOVE the scene that's being shown in the poster- one of the sweetest and cutest romantic scene!! So pure and innocent. Also, love the subtle way they say love to each other, such as the last scene

It's a really nice movie- with lots of little hints here and there. I love both actors, especially the one who played Su min. And I can't believe the other ML is the same guy who is in Fiery Priest!!!

Highly recommend this show!

**** INITIAL THOUGHTS:

Guess, some of the famous KDrama actors, did act in a BL, in their younger years.
Surprised, when found "Just friends" KD short film
n even more Surprised, when found this work of Nam Gil ! 😲😂

That too, a Very Bold acting by Nam Gil n a lot of EXPLICIT CONTENT, Totally Unexpected !!😲🤭

As an admirer of Nam Gil, previously expected a Bromance utmost but found a BL, OmG! 😱😍
(My sleeping Fujoshi eyes and heart are drooling n blushing 🤤💕 😂🤦🏻‍♀️
I need to discipline those now! 🤭)

**** THE IMPRESSIONS:

First of all, The SCREENPLAY n EDITING are really BAD.
It's like sudden cuts in scenes and dialogues, picking scenes here and there n added together to look like a story.
This spoils the mood to watch the movie but just for the actors n the story, I continued watching.

The Director and these actors went ahead n made a REVOLUTIONARY WORK in those times when it's still a taboo concept in the industry.
Their EFFORTS are to be appreciated! 👌🏻
Acting by both the actors is really BOLD.

Many scenes are directed like those with hidden meanings, like an art work👌🏻😃

Here Young Hoon's acting n his role are very good compared to Nam Gil's.
Though being an admirer of Nam Gil, I liked Hoon's character more, haha 😃
U, truly sympathize with his character 😐

**** STORY / CHARACTERS :

The story n the charcters are well written, well acted by both.

(BTW, this story reminded me of Hollywood movie "My Pretty Woman" but that is a softer version than this.
This has got more emotional depth and struggles)

The plot is a very emotional love story, a FORBIDDEN LOVE in the times when it is not accepted by society (or spoken about, in public, without any sort of discrimination).

It's really PAINFUL TO WATCH both the MLs struggling with Life n Love.

One is rich but a closeted guy with a burden of societal expectations, pressure from strict parents n forced marriage. But can't get over his unrequited love, a love at first sight, goes to any extent to claim his lover👌🏻😃 (n even became a stalker too, OmG!😲😱)
Anyways, He is helpless! 😐

While the Other is completely poor, struggling with financial problems and going to any extent, going into any profession, to get out of those troubles.
Basically, he is in a situation, where he can't even follow his heart n accept the rich guy's strong love towards him (but a secret affair)🙄
He is helpless!! 😐
That sad frustration n helplessness is well shown in his acting, perfomed really well.

Nam Gil's role initially looks like an annoying stalker but when U understand his point of view, his True situation n his strong love for Hoon's, U sympathize with him too.
Actually, He is not brave enough to go against his parents or open up to his fiancee till the end and at the same time, can't give up his Love for Hoon's.
That frustration n struggle is well performed n delivered by Nam Gil 👌🏻

I really didn't understand to which character out of these two, I should feel sad n bad 🙄

All their intimate scenes are VERY NATURAL and REALISTIC.
They have a lot of sweet kisses n their lovey dovey scenes though very limited, are sweet.
Their piggy back walks are cute😍

**** SPOILER ****

The TWIST in the story is when both took an "extreme step" to claim their love back or avoid their stalker lover (using violence / Guns 😲) and failed😂🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

And what's with the climax😱
Why on the Earth, does One plan a MURDER SKETCH for love !? 😲
I find this as a Funny n Scary idea😂😬

Yeah, there are psychopathic people who murder their lover, take extreme steps for love when not reciprocated.
But here, both of them are just softies, incapable of any sort of violence, they are just frustrated n so didn't expect a turn in their characters arcs, for love to these extremes.
SURPRISED !!😲😂

**** ENDING:

Expected a Sad ending for this forbidden love but surprisingly, a Very Happy Ending 👏🏻👏🏻😍
That reconcilation in the end, is a funny and sweet moment! 💕🤭

**** RATING:

I am sucker for emotional stories, haha 😂
Though painful, I watch them a lot n later admire them, if found them to the mark😏
So just for the Nam Gil n Young Hoon's acting and the beautiful emotional story, my Rating is 8.5 / 10

Else should be 5, for the bad editing😠
(Editing really spoilt the potential reach of the movie and the actors, I guess)

pra sempre na história

Pensando em como deve ser a sensação de você lançar/acompanhar um desse em 2006 com cenas de sexo, homossexualidade sendo falada abertamente e outros dilemas ao ponto da obra ser considerada pioneira no cinema queer do seu país pra quase 20 anos depois acompanhar manifestações públicas baseadas em fundamentalismo cristão ultrapassado a favor do boicote de obras que quase não avançaram em nada, eu ficaria tão puto.


Eu gostei da história, é bizarro pensar que eles realmente não lançaram praticamente nada no mesmo nível nos últimos anos. Não que esse seja o único modelo de você trabalhar determinados assuntos, mas olhar a regressão que houve ao longo dos anos (em um lugar que a tendência era melhorar) é meio deprimente. Fiquei embasbacado com os 30/20 minutos finais, tive que prender minha respiração pois foi informação demais em pouco tempo para meu cérebro processar. meu único problema é que eu senti que algumas coisas eram apressadas demais pro ritmo que o filme estava tentando passar mas de resto foi ótimo de se acompanhar.
