Chemistry and the background story that bonds the main couple is beautiful!!!!

The chemistry between all the characters was so good. I just binge-watched it in 2 days and worth it. Even though I skipped some of the parts that the leading actors weren't in it, I enjoyed watching it. (Han Yun Xi and Long Fei Ye ) Both female and male leads are powerful, clever, righteous, loyal, caring, and protecting, supporting each other with respect.
Also, these aspects do not create a boring story. The love that develops between them, how they start to understand each other how their surroundings got effected from it, also how their background story connects to each other creates a heartwarming, sweet, also sad, mournful, funny and enjoyable story to watch.
I really like the chemistry and the acting of Yalkun Merxat. His character Gu Qi Shao as the second lover of Han Yun Xi does not create a flow in the drama. His character is also respectful, supportive, caring towards her but it does not affect the plot of the drama in a negative way. And he is not annoying kind of a second lover. He portrays his character lovable, caring and strong.
I highly recommend this drama!

-----Zhang Zhehan is so charismatic and handsome omg just in love after watching Legend of Yun Xi also so happy that he has another drama with Ju Jing Yi their chemistry and acting is so beautiful together. Can't wait to watch!

I think most people have watched Legend of Yun Xi (LYX) before they move on to The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion (TBRP). As for me I am the opposite as I watched TBRP first then after long consideration only decided to watch LYX. Why? Sorry to say this I find TBRP storyline is not as interesting as LYX. Even though half of the castings from TBRP are from LYX except Merxat Yalkun & Hu Bing. Luckily both did not acted in TBRP or else it will be a waste for both great actors to act in such a boring drama.
Everything in LYX is fine except few things as followings :-
1) ML role - Zhang Zhe Han acting skills is super stiff or wooden over here. Idk if it's due to that role he is acting or he doesn't have the acting skills. Most of the time he was like staring at empty space in this drama.
2) The ending is like meh or huh..........it is a waste this drama starts off well but ends abruptly. I am not going to comment further on this as you may watch & find it yourself.
3) As usual this cdrama always shown repetitive scenes like keeps on flashing back on the past events between the ML & FL or the FL with the 2nd ML.
Other than the above mentioned points if compared to TBRP, this drama spins off better & no wonder fans of ML & FL couples are looking forward to TBRP. My advise is if you are a great fans of ML & FL of LYX then by all means proceed to watch TBRP or else you may drop it.
Finally, I really feel sad the 2nd ML - Merxat Yalkun always ends up getting a sad ending role. I think it's time for him to get a better ending role than those sad ending & supporting roles.

I can recommend this drama, as a good drama

There are some positives and negatives about this drama:
Positive:
-I really dig in with the cast. All of them did a very great job within this drama, some scenes are very memorable and quite amazing as well.
-FL and ML are very charisma with each other. They have a very up and down relationship from stranger to crash to lover and then to stranger to lover
-This drama has amazing OST both opening and ending songs. I also download them for myself as well.
Negative:
-The story did have some flaws regarding FL that describe as genius. Even though she is very good with poison but most of many main plot she use her magical bracelet to help find many major clue that help her solve the cast; which make it quite easy from each plot to each plot, and somehow discredit her as a genius poison master.
-This drama has a question ending regarding FL since the drama has both sad and happy ending version. And the happy ending version make me curious about how FL comeback to life, and the origin of the magical bracelet; as well as the reason to have a sad ending version since the FL have that magical bracelet anyway.

Since I've loved historical Chinese dramas so far, I tried to look for other high rated or underrated dramas and I came across this one. The reviews were good so I gave it a try and boy, I wasn't disappointed. This drama for me is a gem.

STORY:
The story follows Han Yun Xi (Jung Jin Yi), a poison doctor who suddenly had to marry the king's subordinate Long Fei Ye (Zhang Zhe Han, I think he was a duke in the story) just because the king distrusts him and he thinks that him marrying someone ugly would distract him from any political aspirations. She is then given the title of royal consort and even hired by the empress dowager to spy on Fei Ye so basically they didn't like him to be powerful. The story starts from there and sometimes it makes me laugh on how the duke's character is kind of too serious? And like all leads, when the male lead is serious, the female lead usually is optimistic and animated. The start cohabiting and live as a married couple in name and eventually they start to fall for each other. I liked all the other side characters in the story. Sometimes quite annoyed at the 2nd male lead Gu Qi Shao (Yalkun Merxat) though. He was the kind of second lead that I wouldn't ship with the female lead. He played his character so convincingly that I hated the character, good job. The thing with these kinds of dramas is that politics will always be a major part of a historical drama and that's a fact. The way it's executed however is the most important thing and would be and advantage if executed well. There was a good amount of politics, drama, romance, and comedy in the story and I liked it. I think this fantasy/historical drama did just that. The ending though is a bit confusing. Though there had 2 endings, kind of a choose your own adventure series. The ending raised so many questions after me being sad at what I thought was their fate.

ACTING/CAST:
I had no problems with the cast because they carried out their characters well. I hated who I need to be hated and empathized who I need to empathize. But ohmygod. The leads. Jung Jin Yi and Zhang Zhe Han are OOZING WITH CHEMISTRY. I'm not sure if this was an underrated drama but if it were, please do watch this. They look so good together! Zhang Zhe Han looks like he was made to wear historical costumes. He looks so good in it. I cannot stress enough how great their chemistry was. It really was.

MUSIC:
One of those Chinese dramas where I appreciated the OST. This may be a low budget drama but they definitely did it right. There was recall with the song and I even added the songs in my playlist.

REWATCH VALUE:
Definitely yes. For their chemistry, yes. And especially for the pretty, pretty Zhang Zhe Han. Love him.

Nice drama to watch

I love JJY and ZZH in this drama, this is the first drama i watch which is played by this couple. Entertaining and the story is quite unique and different from other historical chinese drama. I already rewatched this drama few times and still felt entertained. Worth to watch because the casts overall play their part well. The background, props are also good. Recommended to watch for those who is looking for a historical chinese drama which has a story differently from other historical chinese drama

No illusions about the ending

I was prepared not to rate this drama because of the hype I read about the ending. It was pretty clear to me, and it told the story how it should have been told. Not everybody has a happy ending, but it was gratifying to see the various relationships built and grow.

Some of the characters were annoying (without redemption) - and that Emperor was evil (as was his mother). It's amazing how conniving and vicious people were in those times, and yet the society was built on honor and reverence of elders and ancestors.

The story was well-told and well-acted. Despite the validity of the ending, I would have liked to see them get some happiness, but that's why I watch these dramas - for the things that don't happen in real life. Still, I think it's worth watching, and I enjoyed the series.

You can watch this for Zhang Zhe Han. It is a decent drama.

I would say first half of the drama is good and interesting, but loses its charm in the latter half.
There are many loop-holes. But after finishing this drama, I watched two other dramas immediately.
After completing other dramas when I came back to write this review, all I can remember is how handsome Zhang Zhe Han was and I couldn't remember anything else. This proves that this is an average drama which is good (not excellent) in each area such as romance, comedy, fights, storyline etc.,

Compared to other rom-coms, other excellent plots in c-drama world, in my opinion , this drama is average. It is neither shitty nor an awesomely mind-blowing one that lasts an impression.

Will I recommend you to watch? yes, give it a go.

BTW, I fell in love with Zhang Zhe Han and became his fan after this drama.

I watched The Bloom at Ruyi's Pavilion first, which was not good in my opinion. But, to support Zhang Zhe Han, I'm giving this one a try. In short, I like this one better than Ruyi. The flow and storyline of this drama is more engaging and easier to follow. The characters that Zhang Zhe Han and Ju Jing Yi played here are also more likable, although it lacks the lovey-dovey romantic moments that Ruyi has. This drama is not romance focused. It does have some "awww" moments and the love story built into the flow, but the main storyline is the court politics and revenge. If you are looking for a lot of romance and "awww" scenes, this is not the drama for you. But if you like intrigues, politics and revenge with a bit of magic (the poisoned-army that reminds me of zombies in The Walking Dead), this would be your cup of tea. The pace is not too draggy to be able to enjoy the storyline and see character interaction and development. As for rewatch value, I might not put this on my re-watch list. Once is enough for me ;)

A combination of poor writing and awful characterization | Should have been "Legend of Qishao".

"It's hard to find someone you like who likes you back. It's harder to love each other for the rest of one's life." - Noble Consort Yi (Feiye's Mother)

I am literally out of nice words for this drama. This is a clear representation of how illogical and ludicrous idol dramas were back then. It goes beyond common perception and will leave you baffled as to what just happened. For the record, I even gave it consideration... lots of it—thinking that I had to be considerate since I am watching a 2018 drama eight years later, in 2026. But heck! This show is an abomination. I couldn't even stomach watching it consecutively from episode 30 onward because the storyline increasingly became overly frustrating and unbearable to watch.

It would have been understandable if the reason for my disdain was the hateful antagonists; however, my disgust for this show is rooted in the storyline, repetitive plot, supporting characters, and the protagonists themselves. Plenty of the scenes are giving "2018–2022 idol drama" absurd tropes. I would have accepted it if they kept them to a bare minimum, but dang! They went above and beyond! Watching it today made me roll my eyes. The level and scale is just too much for me. Some examples are:

× Scene Transitions: One minute they're jumping off an enclosed pond, and the next, the setting has suddenly shifted to a massive waterfall. Where did that even come from? /Facepalms/
× Lack of Urgency: I don’t understand how they can just "chill and grill" or go stargazing when they have an enemy to catch—someone who is likely lurking nearby, waiting to kill them.
× Historical Accuracy/Etiquette: Having a concubine perform a lewd dance in front of everyone is a complete violation of palace etiquette. Not to mention, her outfit was incredibly revealing for the setting. (Episode 23)

There are a handful of these, and I am just too exhausted of this show to recall all of them.

The story started at a relatively nice pace. Though the storytelling was quite odd and the scenes were simply absurd, I kindly gave it a pass, considering that this is an idol drama and I'm watching it in 2026. However, such scenes kept on happening to the point where it started getting irritatingly unbearable. Well, it's not like it wasn't annoying at the beginning; it was at least acceptable at first, but as the story progressed, it gravely worsened. When I reached episode 30 and realized that it still had 18 episodes remaining, I started asking myself, "Why is this unnecessarily long? The story should have ended by the 30th episode to wrap up all this nonsense."

The narrative itself has potential. It has a nice foundation and could have led to a brighter and more compelling path only if they hadn't overly utilized the repetitive plot of poisoning random high-ranking individuals and saving them just to give Han Yunxi (FL) the spotlight. It was common to do that, to set up the FL as whatever legendary poison master they want her to become. However, what's annoying is the introduction and development they gave her. She was supposedly a poison master or a master-to-be, but she is simply amateurish and inexperienced for the title—and it remained that way until the very end. She's hardworking, I will give her that, but she's nothing without the people around her. Her character development felt so artificial that I started telling myself how big of a liability she is to this story. She is constantly being saved by everyone because, if not, her head would have rolled on the ground within the first 10 episodes. She was impertinent and courageous, yet incapable.

The entire story feels like a training ground that, frankly, didn't help much. In the end, she was still unable to formulate a cure for Long Feiye's poison. If it weren't for the blood inherited from her father and the medical book/bracelet belonging to her parents, she would have remained useless for 90% of the show. I'm not even sure why the drama was named after her. The only justification seems to be that her father's blood—which happened to be the cure—runs through her veins. Aside from that, I can't think of any reason the title fits. "The Story of Qishao" would have been a much more reasonable alternative title.

Regarding Long Feiye (the ML)... he is no better! He kept too many secrets and was always nonchalant about his feelings. Additionally, he maintained a cold, stoic poker face that seemed normal during the first half of the story but became exhausting to watch halfway through the show. The only moments his expression changed were when he was jealous or, on rare occasions, when he was happy. He is frustratingly reserved and rigid, which dragged out their romantic issues until the very end.

The "cheerful girl and stoic, cold guy" trope would typically work if the characters were allowed to warm up to each other naturally. But goodness—the male lead served a cold, expressionless face for 98% of the show, while the female lead remained amateurish with little improvement by the end. Not to mention her unnatural acting, which I could barely stand after enduring it for 30 episodes. Just imagine the emotional restraint and tolerance I had to exert to finish this show.

What made it even worse was the 2nd CP; who were both so immature and bickered so much that I’d get a headache the moment they appeared on screen. They started the show that way and ended it with that same demeanor—an uncalled-for consistency. I truly cannot! I’m just grateful they learned to put up a facade once he (Tang Yi) ascended the throne and they became the monarchs. If not, I would have pulled my hair out from sheer frustration.

In conclusion, a lot was happening—repetitively—and while the story wasn’t necessarily messy, it became exhausting over time. The plot felt recycled, constantly using the same tropes just to make the female lead appear capable and reliable. Surprisingly, my biggest issue wasn't the story itself, but the characterization of both the protagonists. Even the supporting roles were a pain in the ass!

The only consistent character worthy of praise was Gu Qishao. He was the MVP of the show and the lead we actually deserved. It’s a shame they decided to kill his character at the end, too. He was the male lead we never had; the story's ultimate "TOTGA" (The One That Got Away). This drama would have been miles more interesting if the focus had stayed on him. The actual protagonists were equally frustrating, and Gu Qishao alone was the reason I stuck with the show until the very end. At one point, I even hoped for a "lead reversal," wishing he would take over the story entirely. He was the only character who kept me watching and prevented me from dropping the series. That being said, it’s safe to say there was "No real winner" in this show.

If I were to create my own ending, I would have Gu Qishao and Han Yunxi end up together and let Baili Ming Xiang handle Long Feiye until he dies. lol. Halfway through the drama, you just get tired of the old, worn out plot. Well, I guess it’s my mistake for watching a 2018 drama eight years later, but dang! Some other dramas I watched that were released in the same year aren't this bad.

Let me conclude this review by saying that I dread—severely—finishing the last 18 episodes of this show. I had to make preparations per episode in order to brace myself for whatever ridiculousness they were about to serve me in the remaining episodes. It was a real challenge to finish them. This drama is way too long for its own good. 30-35 episodes would have sufficed.

P.S. I’m still wondering about the unexplained mystery of the magical bracelet. It is disappointing that the story concluded without delving into its lore, especially since it was a literal cheat code that saved Han Yunxi’s ass multiple times.

Story - 4.0, The overall storyline wasn't bad and could have worked—if only it hadn't been mismanaged and misdirected. I don't know what the director and writer were thinking when they shot those repetitive scenes. Didn't they get tired of it themselves? Smh

Acting/Cast - 4.0, I hold no personal grudge against the cast—I actually admire most of them, particularly Zhang Zhehan and Wang Youshuo. However, I am disappointed by the writing, specifically the poor characterization of the female lead and the second couple. I also believe Zhang Zhehan overplayed his character’s coldness; his unchanging poker face eventually felt grating rather than compelling.

Music - 7.0, I can't even recall how the music sounded because I was so irritated by how tiring the plot had become. Well, at least the music never bothered me, which is why I am giving it this rating.

Rewatch Value - 1.0, It's a hard NO from me. I won’t even waste more words explaining why. Just read my review above and you will see."

Overall - 5.0, This drama greatly disappointed me. I love Zhang Zhehan, so I watched it; however, it traumatized me. I don’t think I can watch his other dramas anymore. To sum it all up, this drama was killed by bad writing and poor characterization. I will never understand people rating it so high—geez, some people really have no taste! lol

This drama is so cute and the plot is amazing ! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it from the start. The female lead is smart, adorable and the actress playing the lead is so pretty! The characters had incredible chemistry and their romance was so cute to watch. The actor playing the main lead suits him so well and delivered an amazing performance.

It has a great plot, great build up and the ending,, whilst trying not to reveal too much I can say that the ending can be interpreted in two ways. So everyone is somewhat satisfied at least.

But overall, just an amazing drama. Definitely worth watching if you're looking for a period drama with political conflicts, healing/martial arts, romance and some cute scenes!
