CUTE!
my first school/ slice of life cdrama and i really enjoyed it. chen xiao xi BEST GIRL! it was really cute from the beginning i liked all the dynamics between the characters my favorite part was the friend group i wish we got more scenes of all 5 together :( the only problem was i kinda got bored after the last couple episodes it was SLOW! and had to skip some parts bc what i liked originally from this show was how fast paced it was and how it was pretty much straight foward and feel like the writers kinda gave up in the end and dragged it a bit BUT!! and also the “love triangle” (tho idk if it would even be considered that bc the FL never liked the second love interest) and how the writers just HAD to bring up again after so many years have passed like??? nevertheless i found it enjoyable and the cinematography of this show is super underrated! chen xiao xi and jing xiao became one of my fav friendships after this <3

There's a reason why this drama is loved by so many. I can now finally say that I am also one of those people who adore this story. When I first heard about A Love So Beautiful, I had just finished watching Attention, Love! (Another drama I highly suggest watching if you enjoyed this drama and similar dramas of this genre) and was delighted to hop onto the next drama. I didn't expect such a love to captivate me so much that I rapidly couldn't help but finish it. Xiao Xi and Jiang Chen are the pair that you just can't help but root for (Sorry Bo Sung) and it's not your typical high school love in my opinion. Although it has some aspects of the ones you can often find in dramas, the relationship between Jiang Chen and Xiao Xi is a little bit more different. Jiang Chen completely changed the game as the main male lead, which is what I adore so much about this drama. Xiao Xi is also an in between of what's expected and what isn't expected which makes you want to keep watching. The side stories are also cute, portraying more of the commonly seen stories in dramas, but still can't really steal the spotlight from the main couple. If you're planning on watching this drama, I highly recommend you do. It's worth the time, the stress, the possible (?) tears, and the attention. I didn't enjoy one thing as much, which was how they decided to end the story but I think it's something I've found myself feeling more and more as I continue to dive into Chinese dramas. A Love So Beautiful is truly the story of the most beautiful love you'll see, at least one of them.

Fantastic chemistry with a slow burn romance

I LOVE THIS DRAMA SO MUCH! I cannot get over this one, it is so well made. The chemistry between actors is so outstanding. I also think another big strength is the role of supporting characters- every single one added so much to the story, and the pure friendships were so heartwarming to watch.

Please watch this drama, I cannot recommend it enough! But one thing I will say is that when I watched it on Netflix, I had English subtitles as aid, but listened to dialogue in Chinese. And comparing what the characters are saying to the subs made me realize that the quality of subtitles is not too good, and a lot of the humor and character of this drama is lost. I think this one will be best for viewers with at least intermediate understanding of Chinese and don’t have to rely completely on subtitles to understand.

Overall, this drama is similar to “Put Your Head On My Shoulder.” I definitely recommend watching this drama because of its cuteness. Also, at the end of most episodes for this drama, there’s a little scene that the each episode mentions that doesn’t show in the whole drama.

I loved the persistence that the main girl lead has when it comes to chasing the main guy lead. I really like the soundtrack as well, especially the song "Small Precious" by Feng Jia Qi. This drama made me sad when it ended :(
After watching this drama, I also want to find a boyfriends like Hu Yi Tian as he is one of my favorite actors! I rewatched this so many times...UGH.

I recommend watching both dramas due to its cuteness and how the main guy lead seems to be protecting the main girl lead.

Super cute :)!

CUTEST SHOW EVER

If you're looking for a cute fluff romance, this. is. it. Actually though, my heart combusted so many times from the cuteness of this couple. I loved the whole high school arc, it was so adorable, but after they graduated the pacing of the show became a little wack. I still enjoyed the show because I loved the characters, but all of the time skips were all over the place, but we still had a happy ending I guess. The theme song was the cutest thing ever and perfectly described their relationship. I also really liked the side characters, but they did them dirty with their storylines. Overall it was a cute show that I really enjoyed!

A Love So Beautiful is worth watching It's an addiction & never overcome from this drama.

I'm not a drama or movie lover so for a person like me loving a drama is tuff but A love so beautiful makes that tuff job easy. I don't know how many times I watch this drama but I never get bored. The first Chinese drama I ever watch. The story, making, friendship, romance, simplicity, liveliness everything you will get in this drama. & The main leads Shen Yue & Hu Yi tian's chemistry was outstanding.
I mean their level of acting & cuteness is too high. When I heard That A Love So Beautiful is Shen Yue & Hu Yi tian's First role as a lead character I was surprised their acting doesn't feel like 1st time they are playing as a lead character. Not only They are cute & handsome but also their level of acting touches people's souls forever. After watching so many times A Love So Beautiful still, I never get bored watching them whenever I get a clip of them I watch them & every time it put a smile on my face. I love to watch them again & again. They are not only good looking but also highly talented actor Actress. One thing for sure you can't touch the audience's soul with your good look & a good look is eye-catchy but Talent & acting touch & connect the audience's soul. Shen Yue & Hu Yi tian you touch our souls. I will remember you as Chen Xiaoxi & Jiang Chen for a lifetime. You give us a time travel by our youth & love you guys just live the character. Not only Shen Yue & Hu Yi tian but also all the side characters of A Love So Beautiful are awesome. It feels like those side leads made a wine glass & Shen Yue & Hu Yi tian is the wine of that glass. They are the person those make a simple story's depth so awsome & lively. I wish I hope to see them again in another drama. Shen Yue & Hu Yi tian Off & On cam their chemistry set everything on fire they are too good to see & yet so natural in their role they just portrait themselves & yes Shen Yue & Hu Yi tian you guys & your skill reach & touched our soul. I may short of words to describe their awesomeness we literally can feel them. And definitely after watching this drama, you will be going to rewatch it again.
And I believe when you are rewatching a drama again & again & never get bored of that then it means it's a masterpiece.

its so beautiful ;-;

This is my hands down favorite drama EVER. I have watched it like 100 times and i always cry and laugh and smile with it. So this review might be biased BUT LISTEN TO ME. You need to give it a try. It is cheesy, very very very cheesy. Like pizza with quadruple cheese and then cheese lavored cheescake on top!! The acting is okay but thats not really important. What is important is that this drama makes you feel like you are in the story, that you are the main character. Shen Yue makes her character so relateable that I fell in love with her too. Not only that but its so wholesome and sometimes you get angry but you love everyone, even the mean characters. Its peak puppy love, if youre into cute annd funny and just overall really heartwarming and want to have a good cry with my BFF Chen Xiaoxi then I really really recommend this one!

Story: I watched this show after craving another similar to Playful Kiss, and I can't say it disappointed, in fact, this is the only show I have rewatched, and I continue to watch it to this day. The novel that this is based on is also amazing so the story of this show is definitely my favourite. I would definitely recommend it to people who are looking for a light-hearted show that pays off and makes the 24 episodes worth it. SPOILER: I just also need to add that this is one of the only shows in which I find the breakup period justifiable, and his confession scene is what attracts me to rewatching this show over and over again. The only thing that bothered me was that Wu Bosong likes Chen Xiaoxi more than he does in the novel and aims to sow discourse between the 2 main leads like every other second lead, making second lead syndrome HURT, but that's the only major issue

Acting: If you have doubts about this show I would warn the characters can become a tad annoying but the acting of these characters is amazing. Comparing the novel characters to the dramas shows very little to no faults in the acting

Music: 10/10 music, the intro is perfect and sets the tone for the show perfectly

Rewatch Value: As mentioned I have seen this show over and over again, and I usually hate rewatching shows but I never tire of this one

I finished this drama few days ago and contemplated for days whether I should write the review and not. This is my first ever review since I guess being quarantined I am losing my mind and getting frustrated at shows. I guess writing would at-least ease my mind as I am not sure whether I liked it or disliked it.
As the summary suggest it is based of the novel of the same name and since I happen to have a lot of free time I read the novel as well. So few words for novel it is actually really good and I loved it. After reading the novel I don't think the show is pure adaptation of the novel. The novel is mostly based on after breakup and reconciliation while 18 episode of the drama is only their youth with stupid plot like exam and classes. There were too many fillers with story that had nothing to do with novel. All in all I felt like the end result for the drama was same repeated story of many Chinese youth drama with focus on college entrance, stupid love lines, friendship and daily life of teenager. I felt like for this love story that was not really needed.
Enough of hate now let's talk about things I actually liked I think the acting was pretty good and there were some funny and romantic moments between the leads that I really enjoyed. Though in the novel second ML was there briefly I actually really liked him in the drama addition. I do think if this was based on only ML's youth it is not a bad drama. In conclusion I think a second season would have been good focusing on the story mainly in the novel as that story is unique on it's own way while the drama is like any other Chinese youth drama.

My thoughts on this drama? That cartoon of that dude shrugging saying “…I guess?”

It was obvious it was a Chinese take on “Itazura na Kiss” but it’s not easy to replicate such a masterpiece.

There were many things I weren’t a fan of. Xiao Xi’s behaviour at the beginning of the show was very unsettling, from her stalker-ish behaviour and not respecting somebody’s wishes when they turn you down. She also came up with the dumbest lies and did such stupid things to try and win his affection. I understand she was young and naive, we all do dumb stuff at 16. But still, I’d expect that behaviour from a 13 year old, not a 16 year old one.

Meanwhile Jiang Chen’s side of the story and how he fell for her is revealed right at the end of the show. Apparently he loved her shortly (I’m guessing a few months?) after she confessed when they were sweeping leaves. But like, his behaviour towards her is cold & harsh 90% of the time??!! Yeah sure, that’s his ‘personality’ to be closed off and such. But it’s the words that get to me in particular.

E.g. (spoiler!!!!)
-----------------------------
[After she is in tears after what happened at the play, crying her eyes out on the stage, all because he was jealous he tells her “you were so embarrassing today” like DUDE. HOW can you SAY that?? You know you are this girl’s entire world, and how important your words mean to her. Knowing this, you deliberately made her feel worse about herself because you were jealous. (and btw he never apologises for that)]
------------------------------

Like, I just hate that he strings her along this whole time. He gets mad whenever she is around Wu Bo Song (who treats her so well) even though she could be his in the blink of an eye if he just DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Here’s a pic of how Xiao Xi would surely be feeling:

[You don't want me to be with you;
You don't want me to be with someone else.
How miserable do I have to be before you're happy?]

I wanted to weep for Wu Bo Song honestly. Because he has always been there for her.

I also never felt any chemistry whatsoever between the secondary couple (Lu Yang - the nerd and Jingjing - the tomboy). It felt like the writers just put them together for convenience. Their relationship never made sense to me.

But getting back to the main couple, I still found it weird when they finally got together. Like, it just…happened?

(spoiler!!!)
------------------------------
[They were in university and he called her his girlfriend and … that was that? Guess they’re dating?? It took what, 17 episodes for this and this is what we’ve been waiting for? The writers could have at LEAST let him confess to her.]
------------------------------

There was something good that came out of all those time-skips though!! They both finally got better haircuts!!!! What an improvement omg. That bowl cut on Xiao Xi drove me nuts. She is SO pretty but that hair was weighing her down so much. I understand they needed to have different hair to show all the time-skips but couldn’t they have given her literally any other hairstyle??? His hair also got an uplift, nice.

Anyway, on the whole, it was a VERY long slowburn. The last episode was cute at least?

I was emotionally invested in the push and pull of this show. The way the pairs have so many gazillion ways of being romantic is creative and unique. Even though in my mind I don’t like school dramas – I’ve always enjoyed the chemistry of them and the way the relationship is built on friendship and shared experiences within a group setting. The friends are so comfortable with each other, it’s great. They are individual friends as well as a group of friends. The little scenes at the end of each episode is also gold.

The second half of the show, is a little more angsty. The last few episodes really pack a punch of emotion and story telling. I loved how convincing it was that the characters were really older.

Xiaoxi – Female lead
Xiaoxi is the standard ditsy but there’s something about her that is likeable and funny compared to a lot of Chinese heroines that are whiny and immature.

I like that she is fearless when it comes to standing up for her friends.

Xiaoxi is obsessed with Jiang Chen and he mainly holds her at arm’s length but does throw her a few bones here and there that make her giddy with happiness.
But the relationship is kind of sarcastic too so it’s fun.

I liked seeing Xiaoxi grow up.

“I’m not a young girl anymore so I don’t want to show my excessive passion to such a cold person.”

JiaoXing

“You’re my buddy indeed. You never drop away at critical moments.”

I liked Jiaoxing for being beautiful, smart and fierce. We need at least one main female lead to be smart!

Jiaoxing: Make a phone call
Lu Yang: What?
Jiaoxing: Call.
Lu Yang: To whom?
Jiaoxing: Jiang Chen or Wu Bosong. Call them to see her.

Jiang Chen
To start with, Jiang Chen is not too stiff – which I appreciate. He can smile and act like a normal student. He also has a hilarious WTF facial expression when something weird happens which is often. He also happily cares for Xiaoxi and thinks she’s adorable. They are part of the same circle of friends which kind of makes her obsession of him a bit strange.
His relationship with his brother is super cute. His brother is tiny and Jiang Chen treats him just like a peer. His honest conversations about Xiaoxi in the form of dog analogies cracked me up. He is quite petty when it comes to sharing Xiaoxi’s affection with anyone else. Despite his indifference he’s possessive of her.

“Watch the car.” - [pulls on Xiaoxi away from Wu Bosong]
“Where is the car?”

I suppose he likes her attention but he doesn’t know how to handle her and he takes it for granted. The first time that Xiaoxi ignores him he’s so surprised he calls out after her.
He definitely does things just to annoy her but then there are also times that he is genuinely concerned about her and wants to make her feel better. Just when you think they are moments of slight consideration, there comes a situation where there is no reason that Jiang Chen should do something and he does it. I loved how the show demonstrated for us Jiang Chen’s instincts to bring about Xiaoxi’s happiness. It’s also fun to see how affected Jiang Chen is when it comes to Xiaoxi the way his eyes widen when he realises how he’s reacting.

“You won’t go? For Xiaoxi?”
“I want to be a doctor, and also be with her.”

Romance

“Will you write in my graduation album?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Only people apart from each other do that.”

I find it a really interesting dynamic the way Xiaoxi idolises Jiang Chen but is also so comfortable with hanging out with him.
I like that while there are plenty of times that Xiaoxi is sneakily spying on Jiang Chen there are plenty of times when he’s doing it too.
Xiaoxi isn’t afraid to show her ugly side to Jiang Chen as well.

As the story moves along you can see Jiang Chen gets a few surprises when Xiaoxi has moments of not really caring about him. Those moments are GREAT fun.

“Then does the smell of anti-mosquito water and essential balm turn you on?”

Jiang Chen very rarely smiles with his teeth but when he does he’s smiling at Xiaoxi. He also never raises his voice unless it’s shouting her name.

“Everyone thinks that Chen Xiaoxi loves me more.”

One of my favourite lines.

Swimmer Guy

“Xiaoxi, can you see me? I’m always here.”

Sorry, this actor was not handsome enough for me.

“But, as you know, I will be extremely insecure when I see him.”

''A Love So Beautiful'' was the first C-Drama that I've ever watched!
The story isn't something fresh or new, talks about a looong friendship that turns into something more into a 12 year timelapse.
I've really appreciated it because doesn't tend to fall into boring long and unappropriated scenes like many other Chinese dramas, everything super smooth and easy-going.
I absolutely loved the second lead, also the main couple made wonderful work!
More than a drama, I can consider it more as a long journey with the cast into their life as teenagers till adults!
Absolutely worth the time spent by watching it!
