Had an interesting start but it’s one of those dramas that got too dramatic and I started disliking the main girl lead character. If you liked Meteor Garden you’ll like this one. Almost same concept and it is cliche, however the characters and their stories are the most interesting. I think the female lead did the best in portraying her character. You can tell she has experience and knows her exactly so well. The quality of this series is exceptional. They make the dorms and campus look stunning. I can tell how much work Gou Junchen had to put into his character as an idol. But some parts I found were cringey but he did good coming as an actor. Really brave of him to explore that side and putting his vocals and dance moves out there! I feel like this drama best suit younger girls! It has unrealistic scenes where you’ll often go “that will never in happen in real life” but overall, you’ll get used to it. Very long series but character development was weak in my opinion.

Melodramatic rom-com

It's a good rom-com but the problem is the fangirl of male lead.... She's so annoying. While she's mentally sick (suicide attempts for male lead) her sister(?) help her to force male lead into marriage. That whole shit which starts at about 22nd episode is just irritating... I skipped through a lot while watching this.

The ost & chemistry of male and female lead is good. I actually liked the second couple - Yo Yang and Fang Fang coz he didn't hv fangirls around him & was kinda straightforward. He atleast didn't allow anyone to bully/belittle his girlfriend.

Gu Nan Xi (2nd male lead) is really a sweetheart. I felt heartbreak for him.

This show is definitely really amazing and a must watch if you love are obsessed with teen dramas. It is super cute. The female lead is actually pretty with those freckles and glasses. She looks better in that look I guess. She is funny and independent too. The male lead is handsome..like what you can expect? These dramas always make us swoon over guys xD. All the leads are amazing!!

The chemistry between the main leads is super amazing. They look adorable together and how they jump and hug each other is soo cute.

And yeah i hate the kind of dramas in which two friends fall for one girl and they forget their friendship. I am happy it didn't have that kind of story.

The plot is surely amazing. You will never feel bored throughout the show. It will make you swoon, feel happy and definitely will take you on a emotional ride.

The drama is underrated actually. It is really good. If you are looking for a nice drama to watch.. give it a shot! Its worth it(:

This was a very fun series to watch, a nice comedy to it. Although I do question the logic of the series...
The antagonists in this drama had no plot here; they lacked a code of moral to stick to, doing things for no reason at all (Lanting, Xinya, Qingqing's ex fiancee). What I also mostly did not like was Hua Munian going from "gurlll, I like that lipstick".. into "Xinya, I'm manly". That was quite unnecessary. Also, at the ending, where Situ Feng did not leave China, and Qingqing living by her alias... I understand that is who she is, but she shouldn't have to make up to look "bad" everyday.

Some things I've noticed, some phone scenes, phones are answered but the screen says differently. Chen QingQing sleeps with her makeup and hairstyle... Having a wig up that long is a bit...

Those are just my comments, but the series is overally very fun to watch and I recommend you watching it.

After a really long time of hiatus over dramas, I've decided to give a chance to this title and I absolutely enjoyed it!
Usually, it took me a lot of time to finish Chinese dramas due to their good amount of episodes, but actually, I watched this one in less than four days.
The drama is basically super lighthearted, funny, and with a good dose of cringe that personally I've appreciated.
I liked the ost's usually I do not pay attention to music in movies and dramas, but these ones were really good.
Only a thing: Sometimes the episodes lacked plot holes, a storyline started but sometimes it faded out after a few minutes, especially the last news ( that I don't spoiler, I promise) from episode 28.
I loved the episode 15, and the ones from 25 to 30, they really melted my heart!!

✒ ⭐ Upstaged °6.5° °mostly good° ?%?

"I didn't look like this a day ago." Our FL is disheveled with dirt smeared cheeks, clothes sloppy, and hair a clump of matted weeds. She just pushed a total stranger against a building and smacked one on him. This was her desperation move; she was eluding pursuers, and they were gaining on her… Desperation? Or was this 💋 from her special reserve power?

These two have more in common than they realize. Each is fleeing (his father's / her grandfather's) chasing band of security, which is a common thing in Asian dramas. She's fleeing her engagement party - but this fool and her money had been soon parted a short time earlier, and she was already reduced to begging for food. Never fear! This maven-of-moxie is not even close to giving in to grandpop just yet. After the immediate threat is passed, our ML, Si Tu Feng, decides she's the perfect way to get revenge against his dad. Before Chen Qing Qing (Amy Sun) realizes what's happening, “His Highness” has dragged her into his father's wedding (his absence being the reason he had been pursued) and announces she's his fiance. Some quick negotiations and the realization that being his “fiance" means she can hide out and EAT, seal the deal. She's engaged for real now. For real profit. That's where it starts, but this whirlwind cruises through classes, jobs, projects, crusades, and iterations. By the end of the show she threatens to upstage °him°, a pop idol.

AIL is a 2018 release that is rated a generous 7.9 on MDL. It is 1 season consisting of 30 30-minute episodes. As is typical for Chinese modern-day features, AIL is seriously flawed, yet it's endearing, winsome, sweet, fun to watch and oddly relaxing. Guo Jun Chen, who plays Si Tu Feng / "His Highness", isn't bad looking but he would never get a (typical) romantic lead role in Hollywood. He looks like an Irish boy with funny ears. He does have a beautiful voice. He makes a pretty girl, too. He can't do math, but he passed grandpa's tests, and grandpa's tests are the hardest. The best looking male actor (by far) is the rebel (Zhao Yi Qin). His voice is dreamy, too. It's gorgeous. His highest rated streamable shows are Fake Princess and Wait, My Youth, so they go into the queue. The FL does look like an entirely different person when she is in disguise. She's supposed to be "ugly” but she's a cutie, and much more alive when in her casual & gaudy garb. Our leads get pressured from all sides: difficult parents and grandparents, nosy classmates, jealousy, a teacher called the witch, crazy fans, and a troublesome talent agency. He falls for her first. By the time she slows down enough to realize she's attracted to him it's too late to reveal her true identity without making him angry. Quandary😞.

AIL is frequently cute but painfully inept at the same time. There's poor acting, bad dialogue, logical faux pas, and general laziness about the quality. There's also some great acting. The leads and Zhao Yi Qin, who plays Feng's enemy, Lin Yi Yang, all do a wonderful job. Guo Jun Chen's Si Tu Feng is a convincing romantic lead. The viewer can feel his attraction to the vivacious Qing Qing. Most everyone else is wooden or stunted😑.

Things might be loosening up slightly, but the documented fact is that 🇨🇳society is not free. There's a fascinating split between the dialogue and acting of modern-day Chinese features and historic/fantasy pieces. In the latter, the characters are fully rounded with a full range of emotions. In modern-day shows and movies they are stiff with stoic expressions. The dialogue is simple to the point of being inane. They never get into deep explanations or deep explorations of intellectual, emotional, or philosophical topics, while the 🔮fantasy and 🎎period pieces can be quite intricate. Everything seems set up to subdue the brain and emotions rather than stir them up. They often have glaring logical gaps utilizing what I've tagged as dream logic: The viewer is required to know or accept things as so without explanations even when things look otherwise, like in a dream when you see your aunt Mabel but you somehow know it's really your younger sister. When your brain and emotions are already frenzied, Chinese modern-day features are weirdly soothing. There's Chinese 🔮 & 🎎 pieces that are among the best things I've ever seen, but there is not one modern-day feature that I would suggest to a friend or use as an introduction to Asian programming. Yet, AIL is surprisingly bright and carefree. The comedic timing is solid. It's actually a good recommendation for ✳10-16 year olds, as it's on that level.

One example of an irritation that must be dismissed is when Chen Qing Qing is looking at photos of her parents with a former schoolmate. She points out a photo from the first night they met, which was at a dance. In the photo her mom is wearing a long white dress, but in the later flashbacks mom's in a short red dress. Another annoyance is how our FL continues to dress up after Si Tu Feng knows her secret, including wearing glasses she doesn't need and drawing freckles on her face. He fell in love with the freckled cutie. Easing into a new look would be understandable, but as is, it's nonsensical. This is the type of sloppy stuff that frequents modern-day Chinese features and makes me slightly crazy - and I'm not fastidious. I can only imagine that people who are cannot abide shows like this, at all. You all know who you are, so be warned. Additionally, AIL drags alittle after the opening episodes and into ep10, but it then starts to get better again. Ep13 is adorbs. For the school dynamic they borrow from Boys Over Flowers, which is like calling out to a classic. They stumble into a gender-fluid school play version of Beauty and the Beast that is pretty amusing. There's also a bit with 2 guys fighting near a leaking helium tank that's funny.

In the balance, AIL is cuddly, spritely, and amusing. The romance is touching. The FL is inspirational - so much so that she's collected her own fans by the show's end. As many fans as His Highness? Maybe not, but give her time; there doesn't seem to be an upward limit to her reach.

✳Age 10+ with the following cautions: PG-13 language + in Ep21 they drop an F💣 and in ep24 they use the word pr!(k.

With what I now know, would I choose to watch it again for the first time? I might skip it, despite its cuteness. The female lead is fun, however, and it's a close call.

China is very conservative and it Shows.

Don’t get me wrong this drama was cute, the main two couples were great. The plot could have used a little help, but that wasn’t the main problem I had. When Lan Xin Ya was out with Lu Jing Yang and they kissed they said that he was a “man” now? Like if no one else could tell his character seemed gay to me and all of a sudden because he kissed a girl he’s straight? His character could have been in a censored Chinese BL for all we know and it would have been okay. But this really isn’t okay at all.

so I really like this show. I think that the story is very entertaining and the cast did very well with the roles. the reason that I can't give this show a 10 is because of the storyline about Xinya trying to commit suicide. I feel like that was not well done and a bit insensitive. as a person with friends who have tried to commit, I know how it feels to be worried about a friends mental health. the thing that made me even more upset was the girl telling Xinya to hurt herself so that Si Tu Feng would stay with her. I know that it's just a story, but I just felt a bit disgusted watching Si Tu Feng and Chen Qing Qing getting blamed for Xinya wanting to hurt herself. I feel like there were different things that the show could've done other than suicide. and in reality, Xinya would've been sent to a mental hospital for attempted suicide over a boy. again, I really like the show, but I can't get over this plot line.

A short romcom

I watched the whole drama in 2 days. I love that the conflict/problems that the leads faced are solved fast.
Some scene may not be logical but its dramaland, not reality. The story progress fast, i love that. I hate drama that drag things.
This drama would definitely make you want to watch the next episodes as theres conflict in every episodes. But the worst conflict is Xinya basically indirectly forcing Situ Feng to marry her, just because shes in love with him and would kill herself if his not with her. C'mon Xinya is in student council, pretty and rich. Over 1 guy she want to kill herself and does she not bear any grudges against Feng who survive the accident but her sister did not.

Anyway, Qingqing is great, she can fight her own battle but she should have tell her identity to Situ Feng when her grandpa approve of him. And Gu Nan Xi is such a great best friend. He really just give way to Situ Feng and did not cause any conflict between the leads eventho he like Qing too.

One thing to complain both of them should have just go abroad to achieve their dreams for awhile since they are still young and its a good opportunity. They could meet again in 2 years or just have LDR.

super light hearted but probably nonsensical to some

okay to start off, i might end up rambling so bear with me.

i've been reading the reviews about this show and there have been many different point of views on this show, some really love it bc of how cute and "fluffy" the relationship between the ML and FL are but some might find it really nonsensical bc the story line is very unrealistic and lacks depth.

i understand both points and i do agree with the criticism it gets, like how the conflicts really lacked emphasis. "oh there's a conflict, wait it's resolved already?" there was no overarching conflict that started from the beginning and it all seemed like small hiccups. but nevertheless, it's probably why it super light hearted.

for example, i don't think is really realistic for someone to actually give up their dreams to be with someone but ofc it's their own decision. furthermore how can one run all the way backto school without stopping, and what happens to the balloons that the clown let go? many plot holes and really cliche, but it's the norm. you can't expect a deep story line for a lighthearted school romance drama.

okay but i'm not some drama expert, but from what i see, the directions actually put quite a lot of effort into the small details and after rewatching it a second time, i noticed how the couples try to wear matching clothes that are either the same colour of have colours that go well with each other most of the time. i think that is really cute and if you are to rewatch/watch it you can look out for these :)

now, i really loved the songs esp star and it was played at the most crucial part which was one that i think was really iconic. this review is becoming a mess but overall, if you're up for a light going drama this is for you. i would recommend watching this after you finished a sad drama, and you feel absolutely heartbroken. no promises it's your kind of drama but it's worth the watch ☻

When I first started watching this show, I was hooked and completely loved the storyline. It was the basic romance drama that I needed at the time.... or so I thought.
Because....

What in the toxic ass hell was this? It was amazing show until episode 25. Like even throughout the whole thing, you know Xin Ya is just a complete waste of oxygen. I get all dramas have to have the "bitch" but she seriously takes the cake.
*SPOILER!!!!*
Episode 25 and on from the "if you aren't with me, I'm going to kill myself!" bullshit ruined the whole show for me. I shit you not, I was full ass ready to give this show 10 stars but when that dumb shit happened, it killed EVERYTHING good about the show.
Oh and let's not forget our bullshit happy ending. What even was that?
Okay he could have gone to the states and did music. She could have went to Japan and grew her artwork. But noooooo it was "why would you chose that over me?!" for them both!
Gee, I don't know -- why not go to the states (not even moving btw. Just to do music. a few months to a year max. BooHoo) and go to Japan, DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO BREAK UP!!!! Good fucking gah you could have stayed together and actually did something with your lives. But no. You picked a guy who broke up with you to marry someone else for a second. And you picked a girl that made you chose her over your music. They both lost out in the end.
"BuT ThEy HaVe LoVe AnD EaCh OThEr" uh huh until they reach 30 and start resenting each other which ends with divorce and a neglected kid.

I have a burning hate for this show if you haven't noticed. I mean I guess I should have knew I was going to end up hating it when I started questioning and getting pissed when she would never tell him who she was. But let's face it, had he really liked her like his friend did, he would have known it was her just as quickly.

I think the only characters worth a damn in this show was Nan Xi and FangFang.
Which, BTW, not happy FangFang ended up with Yi Yang. Dude is just as toxic as everyone else.

The more I think about this, I really am tempted to rate it lower. It's crazy how those last 5 episodes made a 10 star show really end in 1 star. Only reason I give it 4 was for the early episodes.
