Focus on outwitting criminals, not on personal growth. *AMAZING* villains
This kdrama is an action-oriented show, the plot is about how to outwit the criminals, and there is really no emphasis on character development of our heros....So... I did not like that. It is the usual run of the mill chasing criminals, but in this case, by outwitting them.
I wasnt impressed much by the ML and FL. Ah yes, FL was on her feet and not a total loser, so that was great.
What I got out of this kdrama is VILLAINS :) The are extremely memorable and realistic.
The Judge Cha is a superb villain!!!!!!! The script is great and the actress is just amazing. So polite composed sweet-talking .... huge big parasitic predator... Wow what a monster!!!!
I havent seen such a great depiction of a heartless corrupt person. I will always remember her first any time I think of a villain.... SHE IS THE PERFECT CORRUPT EVIL "MAFIA BOSS".
This kdrama was later basically copied and enhanced to make "Again my Life" also with Lee Gong Ji in the main role as a lawyer, and with a copy of the Judge as a male Assemblyman, who does even more than the Judge but ... he is not as powerful character and acting like her... Cannot even compare.
JUDGE CHA FROM LAWLESS LAWYER IS THE SLEEZIEST SCARIEST VILLAIN YOU COULD POSSIBLY SEE... the other one is the Chef from "heo's diner".
And the Major from Lawless Lawyer!!!! OMG!!!!! THAT ACTOR WAS BRILLIANT AS A THUG TURNED CONSTRUCTION COMPANY OWNER AND THEN THE MAJOR!!!! Omg!!!! His voice, how he spoke, his stiff body and showing off, his body language, his licking his inner cheeks... woooow... HE WAS SO REALISTIC AND MEMORABLE. And so honest about being a free thug and not a dog... ... the last scene when he burns the money ...
Some people wrote he was distracting boring to watch etc but heck no!!!! that actor acted a gangster to the last dot. IT was real!!!!! A crazy person with various "ticks" .... Omg. When I think of a thug, I think of him :)
PS - I had to look up the name of the drama that copycatted and added to Lawless Lawyer, so I had to look up Lee Gong Ji and wow he is so famous, his Wikipedia bio stopped at year 2023 ... lol
I was impressed by his acting in Flower of Evil because his acting helped me to understand what happens with traumatized children, and I love his acting in the King and the Clown. I think his best acting was Clown. ALl his later roles are some macho dudes who are totally ... closed off and cold. He looks scary with his eyes and his triangular face and big ears, he looks like an elf or alien. But in Clown he is soft and has a rounded face, so I keep wondering if he had plastic surgery or WHAT happened? in any case, Clown was his first role and he isnt always very secure in his acting, BUT his acting is amazing there

A tale of two halves
For the first seven episodes this was really good show. The story was cut and paste, but the lead are effortlessy great, and have great chemistry. It was my first time watching ML, and I thought he really looked the part and was well cast. I know the FL from IOTNBO, and while this role is nowhere as good, she was still very charming and incredibly watchable.
I wasn't expecting much from the series. I just wanted a fun revenge story, and it was delivering that at the beginning.
Unfortunately in E8, one character made such an illogical decision that led to a very serious event. I would have let that pass if what followed had some logic.
Unfortunately, the plot started to become increasingly ridiculous. Characters behaving in such random way just to move the plot. Also, sometimes certain characters were introduced for one or two scenes to provide us with something the leads could use.
There were certain reveals, that made things worse, instead of giving us a shock.
Also, the court scenes were ridiculous. Granted, I am not a lawyer or Korean, but there are some basics.
You might ask why I didn't drop it?
The lead were really good and very watchable, and the show still had some good moments.
I always rate based on the entire series, so on the whole, it was a decent series, but ultimately disappointing.

Good storyline, Amazing Chemistry, Satisfying Ending
Gangster boy ML turned his life into an interesting one when he followed his mom’s footsteps to become a lawyer. He made his living with conniving methods of helping out his gangster kingpin uncle to work around the law, up to tricking a policeman to catch him red handed asking for bribe, has earned a luxurious life with quite a reputation in the lawyer community. While FL, a hot-headed lawyer got suspended after she beat the crap out of the judge who sentenced her client unjustly for killing her wife beating stalker husband. They end up working together in ML’s Lawless Law Firm taking uncanny types of clients.Good start for the first episode, and it got me hooked. The following episodes revealed a much sinister plot that revolve around the life of ML, FL and the most revered person in the city - Judge Cha.
The screenwriters did a superb job in laying out the storyline and mysteries, then have the main leads unravel one secret after another in the courtroom. Both main characters spare no effort if they need to use force while chasing the leads to free their clients.
Although I was impressed by FL’s resort to brute force in Episode 1, the following ones become a downer before they never show her in action anymore. All the fightings are done by ML and his stooges. Although it is undeniable that theyre pretty good ones. Every episodes kept me on the edge of my seat, anticipating ML’s next unconventional move.
I hope they make season 2. Would really like to see the Lawless Law Firm in action again.

Inicialmente interessante.

Great law series.
Definitely one of the greatest (if not the best) law kdrama, as of yet. Lee Joon Gi and main female lead, as well as the male villain, are incredible here. The story is very good, but the flow could be slightly faster at times, though it is still a great time and worth watching for anyone, unless you just like "dumb" rom coms only. To me, the ideal ballance of law, action, drama, romance and bit of comedy, as well. I really have no major complains, and I am satisfied with ending, as well, as it wasnt cheesy and it was original in a way and it brought closure. Recommend! Was this review helpful to you?
Really Cool Show But Could Have Been Better
Lawless Lawyer is an entertaining, fun show with some suspenseful aspects. I really enjoyed the beginning, but it began to fall flat for me toward the end, and the ending itself could have been better. What I Liked
Lee Joon Gi is a great actor and did well here. The agony Bong Song Pil experienced concerning his mother’s death was well portrayed, especially in the very beginning of the show.
Bong Song Pil (whose name I really like; just seems to roll off the tongue) and Ha Jae Yi made a great team, and I was rooting for them throughout the show. I really liked Jae Yi because she was strong and assertive and could really hold her own. She didn’t need anyone to tell her what to do or how to do it and didn’t need anyone to fight her battles for her.
The acting was done well. You just hated Cha Moon Sook and I felt Ahn Oh Joo was laughable in the way he carried himself, his slow, scratchy voice and shuffling gait. It was interesting to watch.
I liked the music for the most part, such as the theme song and I loved the intense piano riff, which was played at the right time. I especially loved the intense piano called "I'll Protect You," which I had to track down and repeatedly listen to. I wouldn’t say the music was spectacular but whenever I think of the songs it makes me want to watch the show, so I suppose it did its job well.
I liked the court scenes the most, especially in the beginning. I was at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. I couldn’t always guess, and it kept me interested.
What I Didn’t Like
The show started to drag around episode 11, which seems to happen with a lot of kdramas for me. I enjoyed the court scenes but towards the end of the show they became lackluster and a bit predictable. Though the show started to pick back up around episode 14, it really dragged in episode 15 and 16. They constantly talked about what they were going to do to bring down Cha Moon Sook rather than actually doing it; there were too many 'lead up' scenes that seemed to just fill up space to reach 16 episodes.
I liked Bong Song Pil's team but sometimes their camaraderie and friendship seemed forced and, at times, a little annoying. They were pushing for the show to have some comedy but to me it just took away from the overall storyline.
The beginning felt more gripping, more emotional, but it seemed to fade by the end. Lee Joon Gi does an excellent job with very emotionally gripping scenes, and I felt the storyline called for that. I don’t see how Bong Song Pil could even be in the same room with the person who killed his mother and not be about to lose his mind. I understand he had to push his feelings aside to get justice, but I feel that he would still be struggling emotionally. More time could have been devoted to fleshing out the emotional side of the show rather than the comedic side, which often felt forced.
I didn’t really understand Cha Moon Sook and why she did all the things she did except that she’s just a sociopath. Most of the time, the viewer was left guessing what she felt about what she was doing to people. I wanted to see and understand her relationship with her father and the legacy she felt she was upholding. I felt we were closed off from understanding her completely.
The ending was alright, but I was disappointed in the last court scene. It was a bit predictable and didn't pack as much of a punch as the earlier court scenes. I felt the writing could have been stronger. I also felt that not all of the criminals got what they deserved in the end.
Would I Rewatch It?
Overall, I felt it could have been better but it was a really fun show to watch. I think with more emotion and a much stronger ending, it would've turned out to be a great show. I would rewatch certain scenes and episodes but probably not the show as a whole unless I haven’t seen it in years. I still would consider it one of my favorite kdramas.

I like how there was romance but it wasn't the main theme, and they acted their age - none of this bashful kissing like high schoolers.
The ending for me was little bit over-dramatic (I mean the wrapping up, unveiling - all happen in the villain's court). Almost too perfect... It was nice to wrap it up happily but it kind lack the depth to it... It turned into a light-hearted drama in the last few minutes of the last episode.

Why was Ha Je Yi set up to be badass when she clearly was not
I started this after finishing Vincenzo because I wanted more of that chaotic, power couple energy and reddit suggested this. And honestly, the first few episodes really delivered. The pacing was great, the character introductions were solid, and I love Seo Ye Ji so I was excited to see her in this.Judge Cha is easily my favorite character. Calm, composed, terrifyingly smart. Even when she was being humiliated and arrested in the end, she didn’t lose that aura. Her character had actual depth, which I appreciated so much. An Oh Ju was also a great villain. So annoying every time he was on screen, but in the best way. His performance was on point.
Now for the rant: I hated Bong Sang Pil as the show went on. He started off strong but quickly turned into this condescending, controlling man-child who never communicated properly with Ha Je Yi. Every time he pulled the “I’m doing this to protect you” nonsense, I wanted to scream.
And now about Ha Je Yi - her character left me with mixed feelings. I was so hyped in the beginning because she was introduced as this fearless, sharp-tongued lawyer who didn’t take crap from anyone, and I really thought we were going to see her go toe-to-toe with Sang Pil as equals. But somewhere along the way, that edge got dulled. She started making reckless decisions that didn’t feel like the same person we met in episode one, and worse, she kept getting sidelined or treated like someone who needed constant saving. Her arc felt like such a downgrade. And the fact that Sang Pil constantly made decisions for her, without trust or proper communication, only made it worse. That said, I didn’t hate her—I still found her realistic and grounded in a way most female leads aren't. I just wish the show hadn’t set up expectations of her being this badass when they weren’t going to follow through.
I loved their first kiss scene and the final court scene was powerful and satisfying - watching everyone team up against Cha Moon Sook, so good.
One thing I wish they added: Ha Je Yi’s dad giving a proper apology to Sang Pil. That would’ve been a nice moment of closure.
All in all, it’s not the best drama I’ve watched, but it was engaging and had its moments.

Amazing, fast paced law-crime drama
I am writing this review after a rewatch and let me tell you this show had everything, a pretty solid storyline, amazing action, fast pacing, found family, romance, comedy, great characters, amazing acting and chemistry.Sure, there were certain things that could've been developed more, the ending could've been better, but in hindsight the ending was okay considering law/crime shows tend to end pretty horribly. The story wasn't anything out of the ordinary but it was still very gripping, kept me hooked. I believe a show is as good as the acting and the script even though the storyline has been done before and to be frank, if you have been watching dramas for a while, this is the outline of almost every law/crime show out there and that's why we watch it✨
There were times when the pacing threw me off a little but overall it's a pretty solid show!
So keep an open mind and dive into the world of lawless lawyer 😉
