Do watch

Hey ppl....so I would start with saying that if your are C-drama lover and if uh haven't watched this drama...what are uh waiting for guys...go and watch...The ML and FL have done a great job...plus the support actors are not behind they are as gud as any other... The best thing is everyone have their own story and they have conveyed it beautifully..you won't get bored in any part nor for a minute....Everyone's acting is real....Even you can make out the difference between the time span of past and present....The younger version of the characters and their adult version after time leap is shown so real...Do watch uh won't regret

This is my favorite C-Drama!

This is such an awesome drama...about love, friendship, family, dreams, and hope! I have enjoyed every moment of this drama, in fact i have watched it twice back to back. Yang Zi is Amazing, she super cute and sweet...Li Xian is so handsome and charming. They both did a great job! I felt their love for each other, although they have misunderstandings they always protect each other. I also love the supporting actors/actresses as well...Demo and 97 are my favorites!!! This drama made me laugh and cry! I truly recommend this and I will definitely rewatch this again!

Different But Delightful!

First, I would like to mention that I enjoyed this drama very much. As it is a 41 episode drama, I was mentally prepared to not rush watching it. One thing I do know, with 'long' dramas, not every episode will have me at the edge of my seat. Apart from an acceptable story line, the actors/actresses are very important when it comes to holding my interest. And Go Go Squid did not disappoint in both areas.

I liked the content and basis of the story. It was interesting to see how much games and hobbies have evolved from 'hop scotch', 'five stones', hide and seek to high tech e-sports through computer gaming, online singing which provides income etc. With continued efforts to improve cyber security to protect internet abuse and hacking, even games were developed and competitions were started. As the world becomes more and more reliant on internet and people interact through cyber world, China definitely has come a long way and the way of life for the young all over the world has moved to a futuristic spectrum. This drama was able to give me a general understanding of the i-tech world, which I found so fresh and informative.

I liked the characters in the story. The main leads with Tong Nian (Yang Zi) a young and intelligent computer science student and Shangyan (Li Xian) a computer genius, committed in high level e-sports, was an interesting pair. Tong Nian is reflective of how young generation in this century should behave. At 18, she is cheerful, confident, respectful to elders, good in her studies and also independent in her choice of career and direction in life. In Shang Yan, his character clears a lot of mis-conception of people in his field of computer gaming. In their own contained environment, the kids are actually well behaved, disciplined and have a healthy attitude in competing. The only downside is, they could become too introspective in their their thoughts and actions, which was portrayed very well by Shang Yan (Li Xian).

Now to the love story. I liked that Shangyan was attracted to Tong Nian almost immediately in spite of their age difference. He is around 10/11 years older than Tong Nian. As computer gaming geeks do not have much time nor opportunity to interact with the opposite sex, I found his interest in Tong Nian very entertaining. Being an introvert, I liked how he observed her, how he tried to read her thoughts and actions, as if he was trying to understand a character in a computer game. Tong Nian, being the direct opposite of him, "rocked his world", even if he did not know how to show it. When he did, he loved her with care and understanding. Made me swoon.....

This drama has a good mixture of light and fluffy. It also has a good dose of music. They even threw in a song from the band Beyond (HK) in Mandarin version!

However, at the heart of the entire drama, to me, was the deep bond of brotherhood. Shang Yan's start with Solo Team at 18, leaving to invest in K&K (after a mis-understanding a team mate who became Solo team leader) ...... and to their eventual discovery of a path divided which cannot be broken because of brotherhood love, respect and history.

This drama left me with a nice and happy feeling.

Cheers!

What a disappointment!! :(

This has been on my radar for some time. Started watching Cdramas and Kdramas in 2020 due to lockdowns. The first few Cdramas I watched were great- PYHOMS, Love O2O, Lucky’s First Love... I’ve heard of go go squid, and heard that it’s a great one, everyone’s favourite.. but somehow never watched it until now.

My oh my... what an utter disappointment. The first few episodes had me cringing.. like what woman in her right mind would follow and stalk mindlessly someone whom she doesn’t even know?? And are venue securities that careless to allow her in? How could staff or other team mates let her in to sit with the team?? Don’t they need to prepare and get ready for the comp?

Have a crush is one thing, but this was creepy stalking and the ML’s character was so poorly written. He thinks himself so highly, so arrogant, so petty over something that happened 10 years ago, bad tantrums, pouty face, and treats her like s*%^. Yeesh... why does she even like him and behave like his puppy?

Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED.

Tried watching as so many were saying how good it was. Dropped a few times after 2-3 episodes (fast forwarding flashbacks etc..) and tried picking up again only to drop it as the storyline seems repetitious and draggy.
Thought the e-sports would be as interesting as in King's Avatar or Love O2O but sadly not much on the e-sports game they're playing except the fact that it has got to do with security and hacking.
Character wise it seems over the top for the female lead to be so obsessed with the male lead after the first time seeing him despite him going around looking like an angry emo boy most of the time. And can never understand the clothes she's wearing. Show is trying too hard to show she's a much younger girl than the male lead.
May be interesting to others but definitely not my cup of tea.

Like Milk and Bread, Squid and Gun falls in love

In the beginning, I had a hard time starting this drama. I actually struggled for the first 5 episodes because there is nothing interesting to rope me into it. I even wondered why it got high ratings, and also wondered why my friend highly recommended me to watch this. However, I kept watching and then I slowly warm up to the ML (he's so handsome and sexy in black outfits, anyway... hehehe).
I like the character development of the ML, from cold distant man and strict team leader to warm and firm boss as well as a loving and adorable lover because of his deep first love for the FL. I understood that his past that made him the way he is. , and delighted in him slowly falling in love with the FL. I love how much he cared for his team and friends. I think the best part of the drama is the brotherhood between the team members, both the Solo team and K&K team. There is not much angst (except for the FL's mum non-approval of the love relationship).
Overall, very surprisingly, I got to like the drama and fell in crush with Li Xian (the ML).
As for rewatch value, I will watch this drama again but only for the cute and funny moments between the ML & FL, as well as the K&K boy teams.

It’s probably not everyone’s “ideal” drama - the female lead appears to be just a slave of her feelings and of the male lead. The male lead can be quite arrogant but he’s really a warm person. People who gave negative reviews about this show were focused on the female’s character, being someone who does not seem to have self-respect. But if you’re watching closely, she’s like that because the guy was not really completely “disrespecting” or disregarding her, unlike our guys on Playful Kiss or A Love So Beautiful (you know that kind of guy who knows the girls like them and just straight out insulting them at times, you know what I mean!). But our guy here, Han Shangyan is unlike those guys... he respects Tong Nian and he’s a gentleman to her most of the time, which doesn’t seem like it as he doesn’t smile too often, and just looks so cold on the outside.

For me, it was a cute drama! It’s getting better and better! Only reason I am taking a star off is that there are a bit boring parts, especially when they’re showing some flashbacks. But definitely not too bad!

It’s entertaining enough for me, it makes my heart flutter, it makes me happy. Those are really just my criteria to say that a drama is really good! So yes, I recommend this drama!

I've dropped this title because it was really too much.
It started as something good and fresh, with a simple story so it was perfect for that I am not a fan of C-Dramas.
But just a few episodes in, the story gets boring. I appreciate the competition scenes since they started to being too much, as the flashback in each episode, really long and sometimes had really nothing to do with the course of the story.
I can say that my favorite was Hu YiTian, even if he had like three lines and five minutes of screentime in the entire 22 episodes that I watched, I also really liked the team members, really funny but sadly neither they helped to resurface my interest in this show...

I don't understand why people like this show.
Maybe the love story is cute but hear me out :

First Of All it was for an FPS "First Person Shooter game", a gaming competition.
And they change it, for a CTF "Capture the flag", which is a Hacking competition, which is a much need job that nearly every company want to hire. In every scene when they are competing they use their keyboard to play, as in CTF you don't even need a mouse, since you are mostly programming. Look at Valorant or Counter-Stike player playing and then go watch a CTF one. You wil be able to tell the difference a mile away. This point is very importante since it makes the whole show hust dumb.

Le't's talk about the Female Lead Char : She is studying IT, and nearly got the first place at a programming competition.
So Capture The Flag is mainly programming competition so she should be able to understand every part of it. And more she could be good enought to compete too. Mainly because they change it at the very last minute but it's painfull to watch.
Everyone in the show talk about the Male lead Char not having a realy job and only playing. But again, because they change the main competition it doesn't make any sens because hacking and security is a real job. And everyone look down on him for no reason. Every competition they are using their mouse to program. It's painfull to watch...

This show could be good if the main activity was gaming, but because is it not, It's just painfull. And they are just taking us for dumb sheep. I won't even talk about the annoying personnality of the FM.

With constant flashbacks, they merge the funny present with sad past. The whole story tries to say let us live for present, live for our dreams, let it go... they use the hatred of past to highlight it. Some dubbings are not suitable but the main characters are suitable for the roles. So most of the time the cute love story gives a warm feeling. And I like the feeling and probably Zi Yang (Her real character has nothing to do with her roles but she pulls it off well)
- On the side it all the computer screens are scrolling command windows...
