I don’t normally write a review about shows, but for this one I have to. I love this show, it shows great family values and Friendship. But what I don’t like is that they only focus on Wei wuxian, I thought the special episodes was going to be about Lan Zhan Aka wanji

I was looking forward to what happened to Lan Zhan doing those 16 years, did he Mourn his friend’s death I know we only heard about he being punished but I wanted to see the whole story and how it came about. His side of the story would be very interesting and important.
Ps I also hated that they never really expressed their feelings. Even if they didn’t have the kissing part, they should just express their actual feelings to one another.
But over all great storyline and happy with the cast performance.

I wasn’t going to write this review. I watched the drama months ago, after having watched the MDZS donghua last year, I’m elbows deep drowning in MDZS content. So I thought “who needs another Untamed/CQL review? especially from someone who has Wei Wuxian as an icon atm?”. This review might be, at this point, very late.

However, when you continue watching content and you find yourself comparing most media you come across to this one, you start to think you have to put out there how good it is. It deserves at least that time of my day. And, also, I think Xiao Zhan right now needs all the praise he can get, because he also deserves it.

Even having seen other versions, I still fell in love with this story all over again with the drama. I feel like each adaptation of this work has its own identity, in a way, that derives of several things, like what the medium itself can offer, who portrays the characters, what the adaptation is allowed to showcase due to censorship, etc.

The drama version is, possibly, the furthest from the source material in various instances, but I feel that only adds to the fun of hearing the story all over again. Because this is, I assure you, a story worth hearing several times, not only because it’s very good but also because there are a lot of characters, time frames, mysteries and elements at play, all handled beautifully in the drama.

You can’t make a version of Mo Dao Zu Shi without two good leads that have chemistry. In the case of the drama, it was even more important, because some of the things other adaptations can show, in different degrees of explicitness, the drama cannot. So it falls on the directing and on the acting to convey the relationship that is the foundation of the story, with whichever elements they’ve got. And Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo are just perfect in the roles. They understand the characters, the relationship and the story, and it shows.

The entire cast is like hand-picked to perfection. Even if some characters have variations with other versions in terms of characterization, they all do such a great ensemble job that it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the roles they’ve got. Marius Wang deserves all my praise, because Jiang Cheng is such a complex character to portray, and he does it amazingly, his emotional scenes annihilated me.

This drama is a different version of the source material yet it has in it the essence and foundation of it and works with amazing scenery, incredible production design and the music, which is such an important part of MDZS in every version, is sublime.

If you’ve never watched a xianxia series before, don’t fret, I think this drama is a good first dive to it, especially because there’s so much more material to get into if there’s something you can’t quite grasp.

If you’re looking for lgbtq+ content, this particular version might be the less explicit but it’s incredibly emotional and has the positive vibe the subject matter deserves while having the relationship involved in a fantastic plot, with political turmoil, assassinations, mystery, action, amazing female characters (with more to do than in other versions of the story, congrats CQL for doing that) and an amazing cast.

Just watch it, basically, is what I’m saying. If historical fantasy and good lgbtq+ content is in your radar, give this a go.

Amazing story, and amazing cast. One of my favourite novels and anime and now my favourite drama. Truly beautiful acting really felt the emotions and heartache couldnt have picked a better cast especially for wei wuxian and lan wangji just perfect. Hopefully see more off these 2 acting together in same drama again. Truly brilliant. Havent seen another drama that can live up to this. Highly recommend reading the novel to read up on the bits that had to be left out and also watch the anime it is really well done. Once you watch it you will be obsessed its an emotional rollercoaster with a happy ending especially if you read the novel. You experience Wei Wuxian heartache, sadness, love and happiness nothing will be able to fill the void it leaves behind after watching it and reading it. Anyway enjoy. Thank me later

Yin and Yang

Where there is light, there is dark. Good and evil. Yin and Yang.

This series is really good, though like every other series or movie... definitely not comparable to the books. Took me some time to start this series because I felt that 50 episodes was abit too long.

All the characters did a wonderful job breathing life into this series. The 2 male leads do make an adorable couple together, a real yin and yang. It was really great to see the little parts of intimacy between the 2. They were definitely well casted. If I were to give an absolute wild guess..... Xiao Zhan (Wei Wu Xian) would most likely be the softer side (or one can say the "female side") while Wang YiBo (Lan Zhan) would be the dominant one. =) Even for the evil character, Meng Yao / Jin Guangyao, was casted beautifully. That guy played his role of a double faced evil man awesomely that until now I so hate seeing his twisted smile. If you actually watch carefully, there are more than just the 2 male leads as pairs. The most tragic pair was - in my opinion - Xiao XingChen and Song Lan. But I really love watching all the pairs there is.

The music paired for this entire series is remarkable, beautiful and sad. Depending on the song and the time, it matches so beautifully.

I would recommend watching this, preferably before you read the books. Unless you want to subconsciously end up comparing both the book and the series.

Life Time Attachment

The Untamed My addiction

I hadn't entered into BL world at that time when it released. I watched it in Corona time. Always I analyze before watching anything. I have read about that ban incident due to fanfiction war. That's why I was hesitating if I should watch this as Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan has stopped interacting . I know I can't control myself from shipping CP couple if I become attached.

But Youtube shorts were appealing me all the time. I couldn't stop myself but binge watched the whole series. 50 episode was not a big deal for me. In case of Untamed, I found myself wanting to watch more episodes. I was crying countless times while watching this series. After that, I have rewatched it several times. The emotion I felt while watching this can't be expressed in words. I became obsessed with YiZhan chemistry. It was really hard to make me understood that we won't see any interaction of YiZhan.
It would be injustice if I hadn't mentioned The OST of this series. Till now, I am constantly listening. Only listening to YiZhan's cover, their single songs of this series, I can feel a pain in deep inside of heart.

Currently rewatching. Couldn't control myself from sharing my feelings....

Okay ... I wrote a review, deleted it, and now I'm here again. I have a hard time to put my thoughts into words when it comes to this series. First of all, I liked it. And then I didn't. Then I liked it again. And then I didn't. I have a hate-love relationship with this series. Objectively speaking, there was some greatness to be found along the way. But I don't like the style and I couldn't get into the story most of the time. Historical Chinese drama is over the top, cheesy and very theatrical (people flying around and spinning dramatically before attacking an enemy). It looks pretty (the colors, the actors, the backgrounds) and cheap at the same time. Some special effects were really bad. They couldn't even provide some proper wigs. The story itself isn't groundbreaking and innovative, but it is well told. Unfortunately, you must be Chinese to understand most of it. The magic, the instruments, the swords, the clans, the "cultivation" - what the hell? It wasn't explained at all. If you watch the whole series you get an idea how it works, but yeah, I'm not impressed how this was just thrown at me.
Talking about the relationship of the two main characters: I'm not crazy about it. I felt like it was a one-sided love. Wei Wuxian is a very charming character. But unfortunately many people died because of him (it was not his fault, but still). At some point I thought it wasn't fair that he got to live happy ever after. So many people were willing to sacrifice themselves for him. Good people. I really wondered why he had to be saved at any cost and at some point I couldn't really feel for the tragic hero anymore. The love was problematic, becasue Lan Zahn was too fixated on Wei Wuxian and - like many others - suffered a lot because of him. His stubborn love made him a rather pitiful character in my eyes. But I guess that's what people call "romantic".
Still, it's a good series. That's why I rate it so high. But it was not for me.

It’s beautiful

Watched the Untamed quite a while ago , and i remember how much I loved it. The story might get you confused halfway ( like it did to me) but nevertheless it’s a good series. The main cast are perfect and I love them! The visuals are truly beautiful in this series.the music was aswell beautiful and relaxing. The rewatch value I rated it a little lower as it’s a pretty long series .

Here for a rewatch...

I finally rewatched this masterpiece again, and let me tell you, it holds up! Even knowing the story, it's still super engaging.

This time around, I picked up on even more of the unspoken feelings between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji. Seriously, their stares are just really next-level. Plus, all the little clues about what's coming make the sad parts hit even harder.

But this isn't just all about romance though. The world-building in this drama is just really well-done. The whole magic system, the backstabbing politics, and the cool creatures – it's all fantastic. This rewatch made me appreciate the other characters more too, like Jiang Cheng's inner turmoil and Lan Xichen's unwavering support.

The music is still incredible, perfectly setting the mood for every scene (especially Wuji 😭). And the visuals? Stunning! The landscapes are breathtaking, the fight choreography is awesome (especially Wei Wuxian's slow-motion entrances!), and the costumes are on point.

Okay, maybe there are a few parts that drag a bit, and the special effects aren't always top-notch. But those are minor details. The Untamed is a drama that stays with you long after you finish. It's about love, loss, defying expectations, and the strength of friendship. Basically, if you're looking for a great show to revisit, The Untamed is a solid choice. Just have some tissues handy – you might just cry again (like me!).

I love it, the whole planet loved it, the universe love it.

I can’t think of the last time I saw a C-drama with such a strong story. Like yes, characters, OST and vfx can be found everywhere, but story? That is very hard to find. I promise you I was never bored once, though I skipped most parts with Jiang Cheng (I could not handle that egoistic mess, my PTSD was triggered, spare me some slack).
To all watching this is not a bromance, this is a censored BL. And guess what even though this has a infuriating open ending, and nothing more than a few hints of romance, the leads have more chemistry in one glance than many dramas in whole episode. And just so I can add Lan Zhan is so cute. Like such a kind an innocent soul. The time he gave Wei Ying chickens or the time he gave him the lotus seeds, I had to stop and go outside because I had a cuteness overload.

Definitely gonna read the novel. Definitely gonna watch the special. And you should too. No regrets!

This story was really epic ....

I got to know about this story when i was searching for some good BL in Chinese so it was suggested on top of the list with highest rating so i got a little curious as to what is in this series for it to get the highest rating... From there on i was hooked....like really hooked usually when i feel that the plot is going a bit too slow or it's getting boring i skip through some parts but when i started watching the untamed i couldn't bring myself to skip a single part of it...it was as if i was enchanted by the story also by the beautiful characters that had so efficiently played their respective roles... I was really memorized... The series went from showing how Wei Ying got his soul back after 16 years... The story went on and showed how Wei Wuxian was misunderstood by everyone during the fight at Nevernight... How lan zhan had broken rules for Wei Wuxian, how he trusted him when everyone was standing againg Wei Wuxian... Lan Zhan was the only one who Wei Wuxian trusted the most, they both went through so much together... The most adorable part was how Lan zhan has to to put up with Wei Wuxian who would always follow him, while Lan zhan was known for his calm and charming personality, Wei Wuxian was totally opposite of him, he was playful and known for breaking rules through the way both developed an unbreakable bond... Also Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yan Li's relationship with Wei Wuxian was so beautifully displayed even though they weren't related by blood they were close to eachother. Also Lan zhan raised Si Zhui and made him an excellent cultivator... The most important scene and one of my most favourite story is between Wen Ning, how their relationship developed from Wei Wuxian saving Wen Ning and how Wen Ning dedicated his everything to Wei Wuxian... Their friendship was pure... Ever emotions was felt throughout the series....

I really would suggest you all to watch it... it's really mind-blowing...
