I would give 20 stars if I could!

I can write about how I loved this series in 10,000 words and still have more to say, but one thing I’d say at the very beginning, hats off to the author of the book, it is a fantasy and one cannot help but revel in the imagination of the original author. The drama adaptation could not have been better, and the drama version owes so much to Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo, for foraying into a taboo genre but coming out with flying colours! I myself have avoided watching this series, despite of liking Xioa Zhan as well as Wang Yibo, because I had this mental block of not wanting to watch a BL drama. Now that I have watched it, it is a shame to restrict this drama in one niche genre. It is so much more than that, the difference between good and evil, or the lack thereof, the love between people not necessarily related by blood, the deep friendships one forms in a lifetime, the greed that makes one do evil without thinking about retribution, the sincerity of a relationship, the sanctity of mutual affection, there is all this in this series and so much more. Each and every actor performed so well and added to the series being such a big hit, here is a drama where I cannot hate the evildoers, and cannot completely admire those who seem righteous. The whole story ultimately condenses down to having a clear conscience, and that a clear conscience is all that matters in the end. The background score and the flute and guqin tracks of the series were exceptional, and I would be suggesting this series to anyone who is willing to watch, for a very long time, or till I can find something worthy of being added to this suggestion in Chinese dramas.

Really don't hesitate to watch it....
We can mainly divide drama into three parts.
1. How the both leads grow their friendship
2. Main Leads sorrows and struggle time
3. Revenge part for their beloved ones
Everything is perfect in this drama, I like both leads their acting and expressions, I am looking forward to watch the drama Gank Your Heart as my favorite Wang Yi Bo is Main lead
Please don't hesitate watching this drama only because there is no female lead.
If you are reading comments and reviews now, please don't read anymore go a head and start watching. Everything is so good.

Enjoy watching

So this was and still is one of my favourite TV shows of 2019. It really struck a nerve with me. The acting was fantastic, as was the music and the lighting and the costumes. And don't even get me started on the chemistry between Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan. The relationship between their characters was so deep and incredibly moving. You could just see the love communicated in the littlest expressions and movements. There was absolutely no question that Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were in love with each other, and that cannot have been an easy thing to convey under the rule of censorship.

Basically, The Untamed was awesome from beginning to end, not just for the quality of the acting and the story, but for its representation of LGBTQ relationships. Please, for the love of all that is good in the world, produce another season, because the world needs more stories like that.

The Story, Cast and the Acting...A series must to watch.!!

I watched this drama in the year 2020. The year of lockdown and I was new in the world of dramas. At first, I hesitated to go through this drama because of the many episodes it has. But I was tired of rom-coms and wanted to try some genres. And I found this epic series on Wetv. I was quite not clear about half of the story at first. But when I watched the specific episodes again and again I got a clear picture after a year about it.
The cast is freaking awesome. The costumes also depict their characters very well. Bromance is overflowing but it is up to mark. No showoff. A complicated yet interesting story. Once you understand the story, the linkages between the characters will be clear.
The story is epic. lots of characters. And the actors are freaking handsome and hot.
BGM and OSTs awwwwwww, I am in love with it.
It's been 4 years and still, I am not over it.
A story you will fall in love with. Give it a try who is in search of a drama with a blend of thriller, action, drama, adventure, bromance and many more.!

Very interesting adaptation of a nice novel

This Chinese drama is inspired by the novel Mo Dao Zu Shi. Despite some changes from the novel and censorship, I enjoyed it. The acting of the actors who played Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji was very good and the rest of the cast is great as well, the music was great too. The ending was very emotional. Overall, very good and lovely adaptation of a very popular danmei novel.

I first heard about 'The Untamed' a while back, but I didn't get around to watching it until two years later when full episodes were available. Despite all the positive reviews, I was pretty underwhelmed. The special effects were cheesy, and the costumes didn't really do it for me. I did like Wei Wuxian's character, but Lan Wangji was a different story. He barely spoke, and when he did, it was just a few words. Not having read the book, I couldn't really connect with his character. Sadly, 'The Untamed' just didn't live up to the hype for me. But one thing that did stand out was Wei Wuxian's relationship with his sister - that was definitely a highlight for me.

It's just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions. The untamed fandom, DON'T COME AT ME.

Somehow Captivating

This review comes from a re-watch a couple of years after the first run. As with many of the newer historical dramas, it isn't without its common flaws. So why the higher score despite some shortcomings? Because it was fun to watch the first time and was still fun to watch the second time.

- Even if the acting is slightly cringe at times, the chemistry still manages to work and you'll still laugh out loud, then shed a few tears, and go back to laughing again. Xiao Zhan also does a good job in keeping the momentum going.
- Even if there are some plot holes and inconsistencies, the story and twists were well-paced and interesting enough to keep you wanting to get to the next episode even when it's already past midnight.
- Even if the action scenes are flimsy at times, it's too late to care because you're already drawn in to the plot.
- Even if the dramatizations can get a bit much as usual, it actually works well here for the comedy relief which balances out the grimmer undertones.

Despite having dropped other series for less, this one just manages to blend itself well. For a fairly long drama, it surprisingly had minimal draggy moments because the plot usually shifts when it threatens to reach that point. The underlying morals Asian films usually try to incorporate, is actually much more realistically done in this one. And although I don't agree with the romantic censorship, it works out well for me personally because romantic subtleties are usually much more meaningful.

Overall, it is a memorable one and it makes me think the novel must really be great.

I rarely watch drama and I AM SO GLAD I TRIED WATCHING this ONE! Everything is great. Story, cast, music.

Each actors portray the chara very well. Tbh at first, i didnt hv a high expectation w this one since as far as i knew mostly BL movie/drama were just so so. I mean the way they act and the story made me cringe. BUT this one is beyond my expectation.

After watching this, i didnt need an intimate scene between the actors. A longing expression and loving smile are all i need. Just by them made me satisfied alr????????

PLUS I HAVE A HUGE CRUSH ON LAN ZHAN ASQHEUEJFNFKKL

Enough bl for your needs!!

If you want to start this show because you are a bl fan (like me) but you are not so sure, due to the fact that the drama is censored. I get that. That was me too at first, but then i started diving in the reviews and the edits on tiktok, so i started to watch it.

Yes its true, the drama is no longer a bl romance and Wei Wuxian are platonic best friends. However, they only removed the the confession and kissing and stuff. I like to keep in mind that although they never actually got together in the drama, they both felt "a connection" between eachother. The way Lan Wangji looks at Wei Wuxian is just perfect. Wang Yibo did such a fantastic job at his facial expressions. I found myself just constantly replaying the parts where Lan Wangji looked at Wei Wuxian. The moments his eyes softened, the moments his face wasn't as cold as always.
So although this drama is officially no bl, with just being a little bit delulu (which I know you are), this show has more than enough to feed your bl needs.

This was my first ever Chinese drama, so it was really difficult. Especially with the different names and characters. The first two episodes is about Wei Wuxian when he was reincarnated, but i didnt get a thing about these two episodes. It was so bad that when I was around episode 20, I started to rewatch those two episodes, and finally understood the context.

Also, during the whole show, I constantly kept google close. For example when the were talking about someone, but I forgot who it was and what his background was. I really recommend doing this, because it makes your understand the drama way better.

I would one hundred procent recommend this to every single person who is just a tiny bit interested in south-east asian content.

For me, I still love to see the actual romance scenes between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, so for me, the novels are next.

Hampered By Censorship -- And I Don't Mean The BL Romance

**WARNING FOR SPOILERS**

I have several problems with this drama, and they all stem from how poorly it treats the source material. I really don't agree with many of the changes made to it, and I don't just mean the obvious stripping away of the gay relationship between WWX and LWJ -- that was flat-out inevitable given China's policies, there was no way around that, so there's no use complaining about it. The bromance was just as touching and intimate, regardless. But the plot changes in regard to demonic cultivation really annoyed me, especially when I discovered they were made to satisfy further censorship requirements regarding morality. WWX not CREATING demonic cultivation the way he did in the novel really bothered me because that was a central plot point, hence the novel's title translation Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. Wen Ruohan being a demonic cultivator in the drama was a cheap plot device for a villain, in my opinion. In fact, the entire invention of the Yin Iron was a cheap plot device. I liked that they increased the role of the female characters such as Wen Qing, but I didn't like that they increased the role of Xue Yang, that was really bizarre and unnecessary. Honestly just listing out the little changes doesn't really illustrate my point, but I feel like these changes add up overall to make the story cornier and campier than the original, reducing the story from a more three-dimensional feel in the novel to a more flattened two-dimensional feel in the drama.

The acting however is really well done, the music is gorgeous, and the casting is very good. It was lovely to see the characters and settings and worlds come to life. These actors definitely ARE these characters now, and they did a phenomenal job. The dynamics between the characters are top-tier and really well depicted. I'm just tired of seeing amazing web novels made with no creative censorship and then adapted by a government with intense censorship in place. I don't know that really doing the best job is possible with those restrictions.
