Bound for Nostalgia, Demons, and Lonely Hearts: An Ultra Fan’s Guide to Obayashi Nobuhiko Yoshiyama Kazuko is an average student in high school. She has an old friend Horikawa Goro who goes to the same school, and Fukamachi Kazuo who is also her classmate, but is not quite the old friend she thinks he is. One day after a routine cleaning of the school’s chem lab, she starts to experience a time warp in her life where she experiences the same event multiple times. Quite by accident, she is getting drawn into the plan that came from the future. I have to admit that the reason why I watched such an oldie was because of the 2020 drama challenge. The subbed version I watched wasn't high quality and I couldn't see the actors' faces well most of the time. But for some reason this movie enchanted me in a strange way. Japan is such a beautiful country with a beautiful culture and specially Japan in the 80's is a completely different setting than what I'm used to seeing in dramas. The characters were rather "basic" and "plain" but, at the same time, special. And the same goes for the plot. But the reason this movie had an enchanting, almost nostalgic, feeling to it was probably because of its simplicity, even though the plot may sound quite complicated- it's science fiction after all. It's simple and warm and after watching it I fell asleep immediately (it was 4pm) and dreamed I experienced the same thing as the main character! Before I woke up I felt someone whispering "Don't waste your youth" which is similar to one of the quotes in the movie. I woke up and laughed but I felt quite different.
It's definitely a movie I'll remember and probably rewatch with someone I love, so that they can feel this strange sense of self-awareness too. I somehow already feel attached to this story and setting.

Nice simple movie with a special story
I really liked the movie. Most of the time it was very relaxing and easy going to watch. The music was beautiful and the way they filmed the scenes looked very good! I especially liked the romantic moments and the actress as well :) It starts slow paced and reminds me of simple anime movies of the 80's. I didn't understand some of the story, but in the end there's a plottwist and so I finally understood. It's not bad at all and I would recommend if you like chill old movies.
