The female lead is sooo cute! and the male is so handsome. and they have great chemistry. The story line is simple and I like that and I do appreciate humor very much.
But the acting is not always good.
The Female lead Tian Qi is not consistent. She seems confused most of the time which make you wonder HOW she can come up with a plan to avenge her parents deaths while cross dress as a man, which is another problem with most asian dramas when the do gender bender series. LIKE make little more effort in the fact that she looks even more like a woman while she is dressed in a mans clothing.
I do however like how the two leads have come to like each other slowly but surely.
This series has 28 eps but Ji Heng finds out the Tian Qi is a woman more than 20 eps in?! And as soon as he finds out they got tougher. doesn't matter that she was scared to death at any moment he'll kill her for any reason and the worst one is that she's a WOMAN! and He's attitude immediately changed towards her but to be fair he has for most of this series has a soft spot for her, it was just hard for him to realized or pin point exactly why.
The end seems so rushed the problems comes and goes so fast. And Tian QI stab Ji Heng in the abdomen is a bit much and unlikely for Tian Qi to do, which again shows inconsistent with how Tian Qi's character has be developing during the series.
but over all I think the characters are all pretty good, they all have a purpose and plays well. just very disappointing that the writing seems lazy and rushed towards that end because this could have been a really CUTE little series.
with THAT being said. it is still a really CUTE series to watch and I enjoyed it.

Watched this because watched the trailer in YouTube and think it's funny to watch. Happy to watched it. ^_^

What i think is funny is the Ji Heng (JH) is called in the drama. He's called ji shuai, which can be literary translate to 'handsome ji' :D. And yeah he is so handsome in here.

Most funny scene: Where everyone in the mansion really think JH is gay but JH do not want to hide his relationship or his felling toward Tian Qi (TQ)

Story Flaw:
> I think the episode where JH find out that TQ is a girl and they become couple a little bit to fast forward. Yeah i agreed JH already fall in love with TQ and very happy to know that TQ is a girl and he want to fetch the opportunity before his brother can get it. But still too fast forward & become flaw in my opinion.
> I also can't feel the struggle that TQ feel when she find out that JH family really responsible for her family dead. It's like cut off to the end where she just forgive anything JH family do because of the name of love. In the reality is not and never that simple :D

Re-watch: Love to re-watch several episode but still can't get over for the story flow, so not gonna watch from begin to the end :P

Absolutly cute but the romance was kind of weird

This review may contain spoilers . Also English is not my first language so please excuse my errors.

The cast and roles:
This drama was absolutly cute. The two main leads were cute together and kind of funny.
The Male lead was super attractive and his costumes were absolutly magnificent, especially his night gowns. His hair looked especially good on him. I think that no other actors had as many differents costumes as the male lead.
The Female lead was cute, in male clothe and in female clothe, even she didn't have that many appearances in female clothes.
I didn't like the second male role, he was dull and kind of annoying.

The plot:
For the plot i'd say it didn't play a really big part in this drama. It was consistent for the very first episodes but after some time it faded into the background. The drama was still enjoyable despite that and still cute.

The romance:
Despite the main couple being really cute, ever since they decided to go out together, before that their romance was kind of awkward. The production really played on the "it's a girl disguised as a man, the ML falls in love with her thinking she is a man" and even if it's not the first time im seeing this, it's often the outcome of dramas of a girl dressing up as a man. But I have to say it's really bothering me, because if it was in a normal setting, the character would have questionned his sexuality and the inside turmoil he should face, should be greater. And even if i dont expect too much from a chinese drama, i don't think they should take the road of making a character question if he is attarcted to men without saying that he could be gay or part of the lgbtq+ communitie is kind of a dead end.

Despite that road being taken by the production and not very well managed, their romance was awkward. The Male lead, even with his good looks was an absolute jerk with her. Since she was his servant, he didn't a lot of respect as a person but as soon as he discovered she is a girl, he became super sweet with her, and she didn't seem to mind his change of behaviour.

But overall the drama was light and sweet and if you are searching this kind of drama, you should watch this.

Outrageous comedy.
Gender bender misadventures.
Martial arts action.
Mirthful storyline.
Mysterious assassinations.
Marvelous sets and settings.
Elaborate wardrobe, especially for the male lead.
Interesting pacing.
Textbook handsome male lead.
Uproarious and cute female lead who cross dresses as a male physician. 😆

Those are many elements which constitute this historical romantic comedy. The main couple have a shared childhood history. He carries guilt that he wasn't able to save her family. She infiltrates his manor in order to find the culprit of her parents' murders. He is seeking the assassin who poisoned his fiancee. Full of military exploits, he returns home to take his intended bride, a princess arranged by the emperor. Unfortunately, she is murdered mysteriously before his very eyes! 😮👀

Very spontaneous romp that tickles my funny bone. The female lead is beautiful when being her womanly self in quest of an important mission. Dressed as a male, she is subject to mishaps but able to live as a physician, a profession held by men only in her day. Rumored to be born under an unlucky star, yet with a broad heart for embracing the world, she is plucky and living a tangled life full of hidden, underlying motives. Fun romantic comedy. 😁♥️🌟

Viki has some wonderful historical romances which I have placed in my new collection of Love in Ancient Times. To see anyone's collections, click on their username. This is a slow burn romance due to the fact that the male lead is unaware that the physician is a woman, but amazing changes take place in his personality once he discovers she is female. Good resolutions all along this journey as the mystery gets solved step by step and their relationship becomes closer. Wonderful ending

“Dr. Cutie” truly is a rom-com, one that has a fast and straightforward plot

There is a comedy which is not the silly type. There is also romance which is quite lovely. And though there is a tragedy, it is not that dark because all the characters are self-actualised; not to mention, fast when making decisions in the name of justice.

I like that last part, to be honest. The main male leads know who their enemy is that is why they do not hesitate to make a move. However, the series still had some shortcomings.

Though the pace in this drama is just right, probably because they only have a total of 28 and after the 23rd episode everything feels rushed. Too rushed to the point that they downplayed some details.

For instance, after learning that Tian Qi is Shen Zhao Er, her character was not as strong and as determined as depicted in the early episodes. Though she was in danger many times before, she still had the will. Just because she can now be herself, does not mean she has to look weak. I guess I miss the witty and strong-willed Tian Qi.

Another thing that got me thinking is the antagonist or the real villain. It is essential to understand that “Dr. Cutie” has intertwining plots revolving around the main characters. We have Shen Zhao Er a.k.a Tian Qi and her past, General J and his family (Ji family) as well as the Ji family’s enemy, a clan in Dong Mountain Village who started a rebellion several years ago. Despite the conflicts presented, it is not easy to determine who the main antagonist is.

It frustrated me a little bit because the remaining heir of the clan from Dong Mountain Village seems to be cunning and dangerous. He plans well; unfortunately, the Ji half brothers – Ji Heng (General J) and Ji Zheng were more than he can take. They are smarter, faster and do not hesitate to protect. But by episode 27 that is when I realised there is something underneath.

Though Shen Zhao Er who disguised as a man is the main focus, I uncovered the Queen’s karma. The Dong clan is just a little external bump for the Ji family. The internal problem; on the other hand, is the Queen’s past decisions.

As per this drama and other dramas, people were quick to dismiss and take lives during those times. The Queen was the reason for the death of Shen Zhao Er’s family as well as the death of Ji Zheng’s mother. The remaining heir of the Dong clan used the situation to his advantage which of course, was not enough for him to be considered the villain.

I still could not point out who it is. I am starting to think there is no main antagonist as each character did something bad at some point. I guess “Dr. Cutie” truly is a rom-com, one that has a fast and straightforward plot which I enjoyed. “Dr. Cutie” is the perfect series after watching a heavy drama with 50 episodes.

Just finished watching this drama...
Overall this drama is really good! Love the characters, especially the FL bcs in the beginning of the drama she is so damn funny, the actress played the role perfectly. Also the ML, he is so good looking (节帅真的是帅) hahahaha, even though his expression is kinda cold but when he found that the Tian Tai Yi is female and started falling in love with her, you will find him more handsome and start falling for him!!

It's been a while since I completed a drama, even though this drama is not that wow wow, but idk why I kept watching it and finished it in 4 days, usually I will stop in the middle unless the drama is wow wow wow for me.

I agree that the story is kind of slow plus all the things mostly happened in Ji fu, for me, it's kind of boring sometimes. Even me someone who loves watching historical drama could feel like that. So if you really aren't into this drama from the beginning, I bet you wouldn't finish it until the end.

HOWEVER, if you ask me whether you should finish it or not, the answer is YES.
THE ENDING is just too cute and sweet, you won't be disappointed!!!

For you guys who want to start watching this drama but still hesitate, just give it a try ;)

Help! Is there a script doctor in the house?!

The drama started off promisingly. The FL was on a revenge mission and she had to dress as a man to become a royal doctor and hence enter the household of THE army commander. So far so good, the first few episodes was played like a farce and there were funny moments. The meet-cute between the F/ML was good but I don't really like the power dynamics between the OTP for a good portion of the show. There was so much master/slave role play and grovelling. I was just about to type "then the show began to drag" but I had to stop myself because technically, it didn't drag, well, not yet. It just played with the same ideas over and over with some embellishments. There was progress on the side but the main theme went on for too long without resolution. All this time, the smartest dude in the city, aka the ML, just kept missing all the signs that the FL is actually a she. He got really confused about his feelings for her and pull the noble idiot trick by sending her away as he can't have romantic feelings for a man, heaven forbid!
This actually reminded me of Coffee Prince which had the ML all tied in knots with his feels towards the FL (which was also cross-dressed as a man) but the k-drama was far superior to this but I digress.
Where were we . . . . ? While the first half of this show was muddling its way through some rom-com shenanigan, it all suddenly turned very dark when the commander played the noble idiot card. There were evil plots, tortures, murders, etc. Even when the ML rescued the FL from certain death, you would think "hooray, big reveal, happy times!!", the writer(s) actually doubled down on the gender bending plot and injected more angst and more misunderstandings. Honestly, the first half of the show was built upon one big lie but the second half was basically rounds of misunderstandings compounded by more lies and misguided good intentions. It was a frustrating watch to say the least. This type of tonal inconsistency was quite evident in the second half.
At about the 2/3 mark, the ML finally discovered the FL's gender (but not her true identity), he did a happy dance and swept her off her feet and did all the sweet things that should have taken 3-4 episodes to do but covered them in a few scenes. The good times only lasted a couple of episodes anyway and the show went full melodrama on us. It was not even good melo. Just more angst, more deceits and things kind of went full circle.
Why I said the show went full circle was that a lot of things hinted at the beginning came back to haunt us. When you consider there were literally a handful of key characters, the circle was quite small. Annoying characters that were banished returned. Love triangle that was resolved, revived. The sad part was that the 2ML would have won the Noble Second Lead Syndrome hands down had his personality changed so that he became despicable (he was redeemed at the end). The whole 2FL plot basically went nowhere. I mean nowhere.
A lot of the last third of the show served only to push a few emotional buttons and extended the story. The so called evil mastermind plot was weak and served only to tie a few threads together.
It was no surprised that we ended up with a cliché happy ending. It was nice but not very satisfying. The lady that was the root cause of all the misdeeds didn't really pay for her crimes. She just went and became a nun. A standard out in a historical context but not a very satisfactory from a modern viewer's perspective.

Chill, funny, romantic drama with beautiful actors

Hi there,

I decided to leave a review because of the bad reviews I read on this drama.
At first, I had mixed feelings if I should watch it or not…and I started pretty low, that’s why maybe in the first episodes I didn’t pay too much attention.

I would say the first episodes are confusing and somehow boring. It starts serious, and then it becomes all of a sudden funny.

• The acting is quite interesting, I really fell in love with the ML and FL, plus the support roles. It was the first time when I really, really also liked the second ML because he is really handsome and also was acting very nice. The helper of Ji Huang is also funny, I had a good laugh because of him many times.

I guess I started to like this drama when the beautiful, perfectly romantic scene between the FL and second ML appeared: the rain in slow motion, she and him making eye contact, from that moment I watched all episodes with a lot of interest.

• Action: Ok, so if you are into a lot of drama and action, maybe this drama is not for you. It does contain plot twists, action, on and off between FL and ML, but, BUT, it’s not that kind of drama! The story is more chill, more relaxed and even in the bad situations when the evil people appear, it gets quickly resolved…I would recommend this drama for the people that don’t really like problems or to cry too much!

• The music is gorgeous! I saved the OST in my playlist and I’ve been listening since.

• I really love the ML, already searched foe other movies with him and I hope to see him play in many series .

I don’t want to make it long, as a conclusion if you are into romantic/cheesy drama, funny characters, relaxed plot and beautiful actors I recommend you to watch this drama.

Why I gave 8.5/ 10? Well, you will see that after the ML finds out that the FL is in fact a woman, I felt they rushed too much the plot…he became all of a sudden her boyfriend and didn’t question anything. I felt that they could have left a little more space between him finding out Tian Qi is a girl and them being a couple in front of everyone.

Typical CDrama with a happy ending but didn't managed to touch my heart

Men oh men... I was so bored, started thinking of dropping the show as early as the first three episodes.

Lasted around the tenth episode, then decided to skip to episode 15, then watched from episode 20 til the end. My plan was if there's something I missed or don't understand then I will go back and watched previous episodes.

To my surprise, even with the the episodes that I skipped, I can still understand the plot of the story. The plot ain't something new. FL sets off to find justice for her family, pretending to be male to investigate more freely. Got close to ML, fell in love, broke their hearts. Then like magic, still managed to be together.

The ending was a happy ending that didn't make me happy. It doesn't make much sense or I should say that the ending almost made the whole story pointless.

What else ?

Vraiment un peu trop Too Much. Vous ne trouvez-pas ? ☹ !!!

Wait and see !!!
Oille ! Ne causons pas comme chez les anglois !
Alors…
