I used to watch asian dramas a lot since summer 2018, specially C-dramas. Mainly because THEY WERE SO VERY DIFFERENT from western dramas. 

Amazing actors, storylines, wuxia, martial arts, visual effects, HIT different.

NOW, I have stopped watching them. Why ? 

From 2022, quality and standards have decreased. What was unique once has become déjà vu, what was surprising and highly enjoyable has become a boring commonplace. Profit at all costs, race for TV ratings are leading to loss of creativity, poor scripts quality, uninteresting or illogical and tasteless characters and finally stories that make no sense. You feel bitter, thinking that watching c-dramas is just a waste of time. 

Furthermore, actors you used to love are suddenly banned from screen. There is always a good reason for that and it's always ideological reasons (tax fraud, immoral behavior, ....). Many new actors emerge but they are so young that they lack credibility. 

Moreover, the tragic death of Yu Menglong, Sept. 2025, highlights how actors are treated in China. Either you accept the rules of a sordid game, or you are destroyed. Stars are created and are broken down if they have no powerfull support.

I really don't subscribe to entertainment when it becomes kind of Hunger games and where actors are treated as puppets or TOYS, worse than animals. A survival show where you gain fame and money or its opposite. We don't ask for it. We want fantasy, we want heroes and actors we can support and love. We want genuine entertainment with valuable and experienced actors. I feel so sorry for chinese actors and for what they have to go through to get roles.
